Dear Delegate,

When it comes to climate change the verbal diarrhoea,    must be stopped. Picture of the Earth

Is is no longer up to scientists to bear the mental burden on the climate?

No, it’s up to the decision-makers, and the more action levers we have, the stronger this charge must be.

It’s now a race against time and it is critical that business leaders and states embrace it.

“States are in the process of bending the emissions curve downwards.” but their reduction must be much (much) more radical.

Nearly half of humanity is living in the danger zone – now.

Many ecosystems are at the point of no return – now.

Unchecked carbon pollution is forcing the world’s most vulnerable on a frog march to destruction – now.”

Half measures are no longer an option.

“This is the defining issue of our time, nobody has the right to sacrifice international action on climate change for any reason,”

Its just over 100 days since the UN climate action summit in Glasgow, COP26, and no doubt you have seen the second in a series of three reports from the the UN’s top climate scientists, a damning indictment of failed global leadership on climate.

Prioritise climate or face catastrophe.

The world is now about 1.2C warmer than it was in the 19th Century – and the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere has risen by 50%.

Scientists believe at least 550 species could be lost this century if action is not taken.

Current global problems such as inflation, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the high prices of energy and food are distracting governments, but the core problem remains the same no one wants to pay.

This is the main problem no one wants to pay.

Climate finance is critical to addressing climate change because large-scale investments are required to significantly reduce emissions, notably in sectors that emit large quantities of greenhouse gases. Climate finance is equally important for adaptation, for which significant financial resources will be similarly required to allow societies and economies to adapt to the adverse effects and reduce the impacts of climate change.

Developing nations are calling for payments for “loss and damage” – the impacts faced now.

An option for making payments was excluded from the Bonn climate talks, after pushback from wealthier nations who feared they would be forced to pay compensation for decades.

Financial institutions might be  taking an increasing number of mitigation actions to prepare for a low-carbon future, the biggest investment opportunity of this generation but financial system governance bodies need to incentivize opportunities to invest in adaptation and resilience.

There are many papers of reference on this subject, most are so complicated that one would need a life time to read them.

Mobilizing all sources of finance toward adaptation and resilience requires all of us to have the opportunity to invest, because  there are limitations on public balance sheets to finance the level of investment needed to meet adaptation and resilience needs.

Integrating climate considerations—both risks and opportunities—will be fundamentally important for aligning the financial system toward low-carbon, climate-resilient investments, and ensuring there is at least as much attention given to investment in adaptation and resilience as to mitigation.

Promoting greater use of blended finance approaches will drive  Finance Today for the Climate Resilient Society of Tomorrow.

So here again are a few suggestion to spread the cost, to create a preputial fund to tackle the problem in both fair and transparent way.

APPLY A 0.05%  WORLD AID COMMISSION ON ALL TRANSACTIONS THAT ARE FOR PROFIT FOR PROFIT SAKE.

IE.  ALL FOREGINE EXCHANGE TRANSACTIONS OVER 50,000$, ON ALL SOVEREIGHTY WEALTH FUNDS ACQUISITIONS ,  ALL GAMBLING WINS OVER 500$.

THE UNITED NATIONS TO ISSUE GREEN BOND ON THE STOCK MARKET WITH GUARANTEED RETURNS BACK BY THE CENTRAL BANKS OF THE WORLD . THESE BONDS ARE ALSO ELIGIBLE FOR  ENTER TO A LOTTO TYPE WEEKLY  DRAW.

Currently, 17 million people are estimated to be facing food insecurity in east Africa because of drought.

Some scientists believe world leaders have left it too late and no matter what is agreed at COP27, 1.5C will not be achieved.

Instead of slowing down the decarbonization of the global economy, now is the time to accelerate the energy transition to a renewable energy future, declaring fossil fuels a “dead end for our planet, for humanity, and yes, for economies,” and calling for developed countries, multilateral Development Banks, private financiers, and others to form coalitions to help major emerging economies end the use of  verbal green.

We need to tackle the issue in a less confrontational way. Either everybody wins, or everybody losses.

It’s not so much that climate will end the human race or life on earth as we know it.

The result will be mass migration, wars, and barbarism.

All human support appreciated. All like clicks and abuse chucked in the bin.

(Two-minute read) 

I feel guilty writing this open letter for a variety of reasons.

Like many non-Russians, my knowledge of Russian history is tainted by Doctor  Zhivago a novel that was immensely popular in the West, the book was banned in the Soviet Union for decades. 

Russia in 1957, had evil soul-less monsters, (who have never read Tolstoy or Pushkin), they play chess, they drink vodka, they had spies and counter-spies to match the West.

We all know now that Russia is the home of Stalin, one of the most murderous totalitarian leaders in history, and it may be true that there may have been upwards of 40,000 SMERSH anti-spy agents killing people both within and without the former Soviet Union, consistent with Stalin’s scorched earth approach to governing resistance, but make no mistake about it you MR PUTIN now you every opportunity to surpass him.

It’s no wonder with total and reckless and disregard for your own people’s safety, (you being so ‘tarnished with years of treachery and ruthlessness and fear that it has led to the amazing stupidity of your supposed mastermind invasion of Ukraine. 

To destroy what was once a part of Russia just because of its expectations of joining Nato or the European Union is driven by an absolute unquestionable hatred for the communists or a more subtle British private school disdain for the people of the continent.

It is a sacrilege to destroy people’s lives whether they are Ukrainian or Russian born. 

If you don’t come to your senses there isn’t going to be any self-reflection of post-modern hand wringing before Russia starts disintegrating in your hands. 

It’s time to recognize that we humans are all the same.  

In the end, my dear Russian people your supposedly ice-cold leader displays by falling for every lure of Russia’s past history is not-worthy of any glory. 

Killing Ukrians will not embarrass all Americans and English intelligence or lure Europe into a “killing bottle.

Go home and Live and Let Die.

Dear Cop20 Delegate, 

As you know the sheer importance of what is happing at the end of this inflationary period on Earth is going to define all of our futures. 

If we are not found in harmony with the EARTH whether the results of the forthcoming COP20 Summit are brilliant or terrible is likely to make our age a mythic one to our distant or future descendants.

Our distant and future ancestors are what everyone on earth shares.

From this perspective.

It is clear that no human goal today is more pressing than the search for sustainable prosperity. But it must encompass all other purposes, including peace, justice, health, science, economic development, spiritual pursuits, without them, all others will prove transient and illusory. 

So you must develop imagery that will bridge the incomprehensible gap between the forces of nature responsible for the very existence and those of us alive today who are living at a turning point for our species.

You are going to attend a sobering up BY CLIMATE CHANGE SUMMIT that will hopefully will not just show the scale of our problems but produce Actions that all in sundry can participate in. 

We can all be drowning in yelling about our differences, trying to control matters by fiat, or we can close our mouths and listen and try to follow some common sense.

This is a very special time that will never come again if we are to have any chance to solve them.  

So this summit is not the place, to blow your own trumpet, make worthless promises, but rather to agree on transparent actions on a global scale.   

We all know that we need energy. and it is the production of this energy that is the main problem. 

We all know that the production of energy must go green.  Not in twenty years, not in ten years but right now. 

So why not agree to the following.

Government non-repayable grants.  Enable every home to install solar panels and insulation.

We only have one Earth.

Dear Primister Johnston,

Welcome back to the land of the living.

You are right to praise the treatment you received and to especially name, two NHS nurses who luckily were not born in England, who spoke English and did not look like letterboxes although you might have thought so.

 

At the moment all around the world leaders are discovering that leadership in the grip of the Coronavirus is a bit like trying to steer the Titanic; it will take some time and effort to radically change course.

Rarely can there have been a better exposition of personal experience informing a political view?

No longer are migrant workers nameless, but valued heroes on miserable wages.

Not too long ago, you were urged to make a full apology for “scapegoating migrants” after you claimed European citizens had been able to “treat the UK as if it’s part of their own country” for too long.

This happened in your lifetime, so you know about this.

While you are down in your country residence convalescing let me tell you as an intelligent man that Food Banks, People sleeping Rough, Charities begging for funds, people signing up for Universal Credit will ensure that there will be no speedy recovery in an isolation Brexit England.

Your county might have either invaded or colonized all but twenty-two countries in the world but days of invading other countries are over as are the days of undermining migrant workers.

Rule Britannia is over.

No matter what Churchill tones you adopt on your return to the house of common  England more than ever is going to need a collective view like the rest of the world to overcome the damage that Cov-19 has inflicted and to tackle climate change and the Next Pandemic.

Will, you now put the people before the economy.

Your inability to give a straight answer to a straight question is somewhat like -our pound-shop Donald Trump, a nasty piece of work.

Yes, your beating heart saved by two nurses, the point, however, is how you use this gift to inform your political views of a world that will not and can not return to isolation.

My own view is that I hope this reality will bite once you are back in NO10. 

So far we have had platitudes. More flimflam, and spin put on existing but re-branded arrangements, will not do. 

In the years to come your newborn will ask ” What did you do Daddy.

All the best for a fast recovery.

While I appreciate that it is not possible to reply to everyone this is what is wrong with Politicians, hiding behind the unnamed relying on Algorithms.

So in the vain hope of attracting your attention, I am publishing the letter in my Flipboard Magazines. With a request that my reader past it on.

I have also sent this letter to the Irish Times in the hope they might publish it.

Dear Taoiseach,

I write as a man from the land of the Green.

In my life, I have had the great gift of travelling a great deal of the world both by land and sea.

We have recently celebrated the first man on the moon some fifty years ago.

Then as a much younger man, I watched Armstrong place his foot with the famous words.

“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

Never did I think that our world so full of life and beauty might become the dust that his boot stood on.

Every human being has a relationship with plastic but unfortunately not ever one has a relationship with nature that is now facing a crisis that requires once again International recognition of the Unity of the Globe that the moon landing did all those years ago.

This is where Ireland under your leadership has a moral duty to call on all nations of the world to attend a unity of the global conference, in the Emerald Isle the land of forty shades of green.

The Paris Climate change conference achieved shallow unbinding promises.

The clock is ticking until the next US election starting in November 2020 with the winner inaugurated on Wednesday, January 20, 2021.

Just think of the influence of such a world meeting would have on the election of new USA president and its policies re Climate Change.

If you want to leave a legacy to be remembered by other than the backstop/Brexit what better opportunity to promote the Green.

This gathering should have not just world leaders but leading Industrials, representatives from world organisations and the young that are going to inherit the earth.

Its sole purpose is to present the facts from all side and recognize the need for the world to act as one and achieve a just climate change program that is binding and fully financed – a moon landing moment.

The venue could be at Croke Park.

Ireland could lead by example such as banning combustion engines from its major city centre once a month, declaring clear skies once a month, granting long term repayable governments grants to green energy initiatives like solar panels.

For every participant in attendance.

Ireland could plant a tree to offset their travelling carbon footprint.

Dear Sirs,

Am I the only person that is becoming irritated by the number of repetitive/ padding weather forecasts broadcast, not to mention reminders of this or that program.

It is no wonder that the tipping point from TV to online as the public’s main provider of weather information has crossed over. There have been more than 4.6m downloads of the Met Office’s award-winning app launched last year, and the number is growing by thousands each week.

IF THE BBC WANTS TO GIVE VALUE TO THE LICENCES PAYERS. Rather than showing weather watchers photos and broadcasters in strawberries fields.

HOW ABOUT A WORLD DEDICATED –  CLIMATE CHANGE SLOT ONCE A MONTH.

Dear Sir,

Firstly let me both congratulate, and commiserate with your on your appointment to perhaps one of the world’s most difficult and rewarding jobs.

I watched and listened to your acceptance speech with interest.

It contained (as with previous Secretary General speeches) high ethical aspirations for the World and the United Nations itself.

It however, avoided what I consider to be the two critical questions for the United Nations survival.

They are:

Funding and how to make the United Nations Relevant.

In order to achieve a Preventive rather than a Reactive United nations (which you did address in our speech ) the Veto of the Founding Six has to be abolished and replaced by a modern collective voting system for all its members.

In order to be able to respond to world inequalities, sustainability, wars, disasters relief, gender discrimination, and the like the UN must have financial clout rather than a begging hand.

The first in my opinion is the most pressing reform. The second can only be achieved by the capitalist world agreeing to place a world aid commission of let’s say 0.05% on all activities that are for generating profit for profit sake.

For example:

On all High Frequency Trading, on all Sovereign Wealth Funds Acquisitions, On all Foreign exchange transactions for argument sake over $100,000, on all Country Lotto’s.  This would create a perpetual fund.

In passing you did mention that the technological connective world is creating bubbles of reality.

This is more dangerous that Climate change. Technology that is created for profit in the form of AI apps and all other forms of technological advance that are not for the benefit of all of us must be vetted by an Independent, and total transparent world organisation.  An urgent new field for the UN.

I am fully aware that he likelihood of you ever reading this open letter are miniscule in the extreme, but perhaps that very connectivity that is causing world insecurity might with the help of one of its big players like Facebook or twitter might bring it to your attention.

In the meantime I wish the New Secretary General all the best and happy Xmas and new year.
