( Fifteen minute read)

It’s hard to feel for future people. We are bad enough at feeling for our future selves.

Even if we last just 1 million years, as long as the average mammal – and even if the global population fell to 1 billion people – then there would be 9.1 trillion people in the future.

Concern for future generations is common sense across diverse intellectual traditions. When we dispose of radioactive waste, we don’t say, “Who cares if this poisons people centuries from now?

Similarly, few of us who care about climate change or pollution do so solely for the sake of people alive today.

Is any of this true?

Current global rates of consumption require the resources of about 1.6 earths. At this rate, we risk exhausting our planet’s life support systems that provide us with fresh water, nutritious food and clean air.

What 2050 could look like if we don’t do anything about climate change?  This doesn’t need an answer.

That is a future unwritten.  It’s also worth noting that, in fact, it is entirely up to us whether these hypothetical future beings ever actually come into existence.

So what do we owe the generations to come?

You might answer that since we don’t even owe to them to bring them into existence in the first place, we can’t possibly owe them anything all. Then wouldn’t the people of the future be within their rights to look back at us and ask, ‘Given that you despoiled our planet, why did you even bother bringing us into existence?

Maybe we might actually have an obligation not to bring future people into existence, at least if we’re going to mess things up enough to make their hypothetical lives unbearable.

That would imply that future people count more than us. And who thinks that? Certainly not me. I’m not even sure they count the same as us. That leaves us with only one option. I hate to say it, but future people surely count less than we do—at least a little less.

“What, I am trying to get you to see, is that we have an absolute duty to future generations not to ruin their future planet.”

Think of today’s teeming masses, displaced by violence and climate change, wandering the world in search for a safe harbour.

In comparison to all that present day concrete suffering, the hypothetical suffering of hypothetical future people seems sort of distant and abstract.

I should say that I am actually all for combating climate change. And I am all for weighing both the interests of present people and the interests of future people in the calculus of what is to be done about it. I just don’t think it’s obvious how much weight we should give to the wellbeing of hypothetical future people as opposed to our own.

——————–

Now more than ever, the world needs young people to step up to address the many other challenges ahead of us.

It is crucial to engage young people in decision-making – but in parallel – it’s also important for young people to think differently about how they want to engage.

They cannot vote or lobby or run for public office, so politicians have scant incentive to think about them. They can’t bargain or trade with us, so they have little representation in the market, And they can’t make their views heard directly: they can’t tweet, or write articles in newspapers, or march in the streets. They are utterly disenfranchised.

We make laws that govern them, build infrastructure for them and take out loans for them to pay back.

So what happens when we consider future generations while we make decisions today?

Is it really as bad as all that?

Our situation can be summed up as follows:

While facing an extinction event, instead of working toward reversing the march toward climate disaster, in the name of security we are investing in killing each other.

What will it take to unleash the energy and passion of youth leaders and activists to dismantle inequitable systems and work together to build an more inclusive future?

Social media will likely play a role in that revolution—if it doesn’t sink our kids with anxiety and depression first.

Asked young people what changes they want for the future.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE RED LINES.

  • Incentivize sustainable consumption and penalize production that’s not.
  • All stakeholders to take urgent action to safeguard nature and future food production.
  • Sanctions against institutions that resort to internet blackouts to supress citizen freedoms.
  • Tech companies to be transparent about misinformation and its spread on their platforms.
  • Governments to implement policies to protect individual citizens against harmful content.
  • Capacity-building programmes and education to help citizens better identify fake news.
  • Strengthened laws against media monopolies to protect democratic freedoms.
  • A Global Convention for Cybersecurity to uphold the integrity of political systems.
  • A global wealth tax on assets worth more than US$ 50 million to fight growing inequality.
  • Universities to end the exorbitant tuition fees that stifle social mobility.
  • Governments to guarantee universal access to mental health services.
  • Governments to invest in communities most at risk from climate change.
  • Financial institutions to stop bankrolling companies initiating fossil fuel exploration.
  • Companies to significantly reduce the GHG emissions of their operations and supply chains to help keep global heating within 1.5°C.
  • Governments to implement fit-for-purpose policies and regulations on big tech.
  • Companies to integrate technology ethics into the design of their products and services.
  • Governments to prioritize the immediate needs of healthcare workers and their families.
  • Companies to drive digitalization in healthcare services to improve patient care.
  • Governments to end qualified immunity in law enforcement for police officers.
  • Increased action against gun violence.

Two critical questions guided these dialogues:

What are the barriers that have hindered progress?

And, what key values, principles and practices will enable us to foster long-lasting systemic impact for the next decade?

As many around the world push for the creation of a more just, equitable and sustainable future we must remember that technology is one of the greatest tools for achieving these goals, but without ethical considerations at the fore… this will likely only perpetuate the very inequalities that we hope to address.

Every generation of teens is shaped by the social, political, and economic events of the day and how fast teens grow up depends on their perceptions of their environment.

For example their ubiquitous use of the iPhone, their valuing of individualism, their economic context of income inequality, their inclusiveness, and more.

Social media is creating an “epidemic of anguish.

We can’t market technologies that capture dopamine, hijack attention, and tether people to a screen, and then wonder why they are lonely and hurting. It makes humanity look like an “imprudent teenager”, with many years ahead, but more power than wisdom.

Fortunately, there are concrete things humanity to day can do.

The field of sustainability is evolving.

For example, if there is any moral weight on future people, then many common societal goals (like faster economic growth) are vastly less important than reducing risks of extinction (like nuclear non-proliferation).

The entire value chain needs to be sustainable, from raw material sourcing to the manufacturing and usage of the products.

Transparency, accountability, trust and a focus on stakeholder capitalism will be key to meeting this generation’s ambitions and expectations. Doing so would help save the lives of people alive today, reduce the risk of technological stagnation and protect humanity’s future.

Our biases toward present, local problems are strong, so connecting emotionally with the ideas can be hard. It’s humbling and inspiring to see the role we can play in protecting the future. We can enjoy life now and safeguard the future for our great grandchildren.

If we name each generation based on the technological conditions it experienced, generations may soon encompass only a few years apiece. Slicing the population into ever-narrower generations, each defined by its very specific relationship to technology, is fundamental to how we think about the relationship between age, culture, and technology.

They include the digital natives, the net generation, the Google generation or the millennials.

All of these terms are being used to highlight the significance and importance of new technologies within the lives of young people. But generation gaps did not begin with the invention of the microchip. What’s new is the fine-slicing of generational divides, the centrality of technology to defining each successive generation.

If the role of technology in shaping an emergent generational consciousness it seems obvious, to imagine a return to the days when sociological generations spanned multiple decades is over. If you believe that technological conditions profoundly shape the life experience and perspectives of each successive generation, then those generations will only get narrower. If we name each generation based on the specific technological conditions it experienced during childhood or adolescence, we may soon be dealing with generations that encompass only a few years apiece.

At that point, the very idea of “generations” will cease to have much utility for social scientists, since it will be very hard to analyse attitudinal or behavioural differences between generations that are just a few years part.

The problem is that all will come at a price. That price is and will be.

The loss of intentional and thoughtful communication techniques to preserve meaningful connections in a society that is becoming more and more reliant on technology.

Be it the metaverse, smart glasses or large language models, the world as we know it may never be quite as we first imagined it, merging into physical and digital spaces.

While the internet offers unparalleled convenience and connectivity, it is essential to recognize its limitations in reproducing the depth of personal interaction found in face-to-face encounters.

—————

Technology will be a vital tool for creating a cleaner, safer and more inclusive world, but what changes can we expect to see?

  • 5G will create a lot of new use cases including drone management, robotic surgery and autonomous vehicles. Large language models will become a given because they lower the cost of artificial intelligence (AI)
  • Quantum computing merges with classical computing.
  • Our grandchildren will live in a very different world thanks to the democratization of products and services that are currently only available to the elite or wealthy,
  • Holographic image in front of you, seen through smart glasses will be your algorithmic world.
  • No matter what  future we leave behind life my advice is life is beautiful-celebrate -celebrate – never give up.
  • If all of this is hurting your head, let’s just get back to the basics: if there is a secret to life, it might all be down to what we do, not what we are.

( Twenty minute read)

How much of our lives is governed by fear?

Fear is an ancient and conserved response that served humans well enough before the advent of civilisation, but it has become distorted in modern societies where primordial fears can readily transform into phobias.

Fear is part instinct, part learned, part taught. Some fears are instinctive: Pain, for example, causes fear because of its implications for survival. Other fears are learned and also partly imagined.  Imagined threats cause paralysis. Real threats, on the other hand, cause frenzy.

For instance social media is now fanning, the flames of fear and disseminating misinformation quickly and widely with fake news.

It’s hard to fully understand the way fear shapes our world without addressing its relationship to anger.

And anger is important for those who profit from fear because anger generates action.

People are more vulnerable when they’re in an angered state. When we’re angry, we don’t pay attention to the details of complex messages, the more one person expresses anger, the more others express anger, and then it becomes a kind of spiral where the anger is ratcheted up and up.

Many bemoan online when social media platforms seemingly descend into ranting and abuse but a great deal of the anger we find when perusing our devices isn’t organic, it’s engineered – for profit.

Provoking anger is rapidly becoming the standard for many online operations.

Why?

Because fidelity of the source is taken by social media sites and search engines as key factors for their Automated Decision Making (ADM) systems to classify content.

In their defence, social media platforms are between a rock and a hard place because of their need to balance free speech against repression of damaging or hateful material.

It works because in our algorithmically driven culture the popularity of any given content is no longer driven by the number of eyeballs that see it, but by the level of engagement it generates.

—————–

Fear sharpens the mind, which is why fear is used in campaigns, whether it’s public health, whether it’s to change people’s attitude to things like climate change.

Fear can steel resolve to do something.

After the second World War and the horrors that the world experienced, democratic countries became defensive.  In other words, they saw fear as an important tool for making sure that these kinds of perversions never happened again, but in the process of doing that, fear actually became too important as a component. It started to eclipse the very values that it was supposed to be protecting-  “enculturated” in fear – NATO.

But that’s not the whole story.

We can now register a fear with new characteristics in the fear taxonomy, and we could call it global fear.

.For example during COVID too much fear created apathy leading to disinterest and distrust.

What’s needed is a better public understanding of the role these emotions play in our lives, and a clearer appreciation that when emotions are manipulated, even good intentions can have disastrous consequences.

——————–

Fear and anger are dominating our world right now, but are we being manipulated for profit?

Fear and anger abound – in our politics, in our social discourse, and in our expectations for the future.

When fear is pervasive in a system — and it’s pervasive in all of our systems — what that means is that we lose dynamism, we lose innovation. Fears put a stranglehold on our life force. Fear paralyzes us. Fear diminishes us. And the more we conquer our fears, the more meaningful our life becomes.

Fear and anger have been monetised, the result of deliberate manipulation by commercial and political interests.

The antidote for our current malaise isn’t simply to suppress our emotional extremes. In fact, both fear and anger can help positive social change by fostering a thirst for justice and even revolution.

The difficulty for people today is empathising or imaginatively trying to situate themselves in the future … It’s very, very difficult.

The growing fear-based discourse around climate change, for example, and the use of fear-laden expressions and words often backfires on those who deploy them. When someone like [UN Secretary-General] António Guterres uses the term ‘global boiling’ the problem is a lot of people in their daily lives are not experiencing a climate crisis, they don’t experience excessive heat, they don’t have wildfires on their doorstep. They just switch off.

While we tend to equate fear-based leadership with totalitarianism or populism, there are many instances in democratic countries where politics is coloured by the use of fear as a blunt tool of coercion.

More people realise that we’re living in a vicious cycle, where manufactured fear fuels anger and anger in turn blinds us to the recognition that our fear is misplaced. Take the discourse around “illegal” immigration.

As George Orwell’s warnings 1984 to the world which are now coming true as we move into an age of totalitarian Ai dictatorial -an age in which freedom of thought will be a deadly sin and later on a meaningless abstraction. The autonomous individual is going to be stamped out of existence.

Totalitarianism relies on mass support so we need more people to realize what is at stake and start seeing all around us by taking the smart phone out of our ears.

With AI moving into the Physical world, algorithms are running more and more of life as we know it.

Combined they are evolving towards the same system, a form of oligarchical collectivism with manufactured fear.  The strategy of fear is one of their most valuable tactics.

Don’t let it happen. Face recognition becoming a thought or face crime.

————————-

You see the state of the world.

It is not important who is at war or with who, it’s the removal of freedoms and constant surveillance which is now conducted through the smartphones we carry around in our pockets, with every sound you make, every movement scrutinised.

The permanent lie becomes the only safe form of existence. Everything fades into mist. The past is erased, the erasure is forgotten and the lie comes truth.

No one can stand aside, dont let it happen it depends on you

It’s understandable that we may worry about world events but fear is hardwired in your brain, and for good reason.

—————–

War is peace freedom is slavery.

Israel is as we watch becoming a Totalitarian State.

How does one witness the cruelty of indiscriminate bombing? We cannot physically or mentally feel another’s pain, but we can empathize with it. We tend to still think of war as great power competition or as the Second World War.

The USA vetoed Palestine becoming a full member of the United nations then approved more than $61bn worth of military assistance to help Ukraine in its desperate defence against Russia, as well as billions for other allies including Israel and Taiwan.

The $95bn in total funding includes roughly $61bn for Ukraine (with much of the funding going towards replenishing American munitions); $26bn for Israel; $8bn for US allies in the Indo-Pacific region, including Taiwan; and $9bn in humanitarian assistance for civilians in war zones, such as Haiti, Sudan and Gaza, though the package also includes a ban on direct US funding for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (Unrwa), an agency providing key assistance to Gaza, until March 2025. The US has so far sent Ukraine roughly $111bn in weapons, equipment, humanitarian assistance and other aid since the start of the war more than two years ago.

The Israel bill includes about $4.4bn to replenish depleted US supplies given to Israel; $4bn for missile defence, including the much-vaunted Iron Dome, and $1.2bn for the Iron Beam; and $3.5bn to help Israel buy weapons. There are also provisions to make it easier to supply Israel with US munitions held in other countries.

What is what.

If you can have all the information that’s out there, crunch it into some kind of algorithm, that you can then target discriminately, proportionately.

The idea that machines are going to replace humans in wars  is fundamentally untrue.

We are seeing this to a certain extent right now, in Palestinian/Israel war with Ai deciding who and how to kill.  Both wars are is very much a battle of machines and soldiers, a high technology-driven conflict.

Where you can attack, use some surgically precise weapons, take care of the problem, eliminate your opponent and then extract yourself from a situation, has actually turned into a quagmire with new super weapons, whether it be cyber information warfare or artificial intelligence everyone wants to be ahead of the curve, right?

However, this approach also overshadows political considerations, including the causes of conflicts, obscures the costs of conflict, and creates illusions of quick and easy victories—all of which has led to two decades of war in the twenty-first century.

One of the problems here is this idea that you can simply solve problems by targeting them with cruise missiles, is simply not the case.

The belief that technology can help prevent war by creating a deterrent, is an illusion.

Wars will never be able to solve the difficult and complex political and cultural problems on the ground. Weapons can help produce ceasefires, but they cannot themselves create long-lasting, established peace.

Essentially, the idea that science can produce technologically advanced weapons so horrible that no one will ever want to fight is farcical. If we are ever going to get rid of war military culture it must be understood that it  does not exist in isolation.

Through the use of technology WE GOING TO CREATE WARS.

The rush to apply cutting edge technologies like artificial intelligence to military systems is well under way. A new breed of techno-evangelists, many of whom stand to make billions if we go down the high tech path they are so aggressively promoting.

The application of science to unpick the supposedly immutable principles of warfare, making conflicts shorter and more humane, or eliminating the need for large-scale campaigns, found a home in the United States by the middle of the nineteenth century.

Such views reached their zenith with the advent of nuclear weapons and the logic of deterrence.

Importantly,  technology-based approach emerges as a counter to the deterrence-based approach. Although nuclear weapons had made war unlikely, given the risks of mass casualties and devastation.

There is a need for much greater restraint in making assumptions as to what ends can be achieved militarily. Replacing people with machines on the battlefield, will not result in ‘clean’ conflicts.

Where there may be feelings of anger and betrayal, or even a sense of exhaustion, not uncovering the truth may lead to conspiracy or a turn to an engineering-infused idealism—that smarter systems will produce better results next time.

High-tech wars transfers the risk from soldiers to civilians.

It envisions the military drawing on US advanced technologies, such as AI, cyber resources, unmanned systems and machine learning to offset or create an overmatch of adversarial capabilities. Reducing the time that it takes from identifying a target to destroying it (known as the “kill chain”) and diminishing or eliminating human input could be a recipe for unprecedented disaster.

The Ukraine war is been used as a proof of concept for their systems, and a marketing tool to boot – after all, what’s more attractive than buying “battle proven” technology?

Revelations that Israel has used AI not to spare civilians but to step up the rate and scope of its devastation of Gaza is just the latest example of why we need to think twice before acquiescing in the rush towards a world dominated by automated warfare.

Between 2019 and 2022, U.S. military and intelligence agencies awarded major tech firms contracts with ceilings worth at least $53 billion combined. Resulting in large military contracts to big tech firms like Microsoft, Amazon and Google.

The idea that America alone has the ability (and the duty) to protect the world’s democratic societies; and a steadfast belief that the best way to preserve U.S. dominance is through a largely unregulated free market that prioritizes corporate needs is a farce. It is on the verge of losing an epic struggle for global geopolitical and economic supremacy—unless it can outpace China in the ‘AI arms race.

U.S. government for Israel’s war on Gaza, which the International Court of Justice has suggested can plausibly be considered a case of genocide.

Russia’s or Israeli nuclear status means that NATO countries are unlikely to become involved in direct fighting given the risk of escalation.

The time to act is now, because nobody has any idea if we have cyborg fighting wars.

There is another response in play when there is a perceived threat to survival. Physical harm, threats to property used for protection, threats to self value that erode a desire to survive come from the Caveman part of our brain that dictate the innate need to run, hide, fight. As to what is coming next is anyone’s guess.

My guess is that it will be self-help.

Physical aggression and violence dictate fear. the use of run, hide, fight.

( Twelve minute read)

Our brain have difficulties in accepting that we actually are animals and thus highly dependent on nature where nothing exists alone.

—————

Science has organized human evolution into six levels.

We share the first five with other creatures, while the sixth level makes us unique –  language.

Our use of language and given rise to the sciences and philosophical thoughts that now are transforming the entire biosphere, while abusing it to such a degree that we are currently on the verge of destroying it completely.

It is difficult to understanding that extinctions are not features of this civilization, but virtually all past civilizations have faced this fate. We might be more advanced technologically now, but this gives little comfort as we are not immune to the threats that undid our ancestors.

MAYBE THIS IS THE MAIN REASON THAT WE ARE UNABLE TO ADDRESS THE CLIMATE CRISIS, WHICH IS NOW AN INDUSTRY RATHER THAN A THREATH TO OUR VERY EXISTENCE, to the biodiversity, to food security, access to fresh water, the lack of which will result in wars.

Unfortunately we are still animals living in a world that is changing the atmosphere’s chemistry, which is becoming a reality, not tomorrow, but right now and that’s with the number of people we already have.

Indeed the very technology we now rely on bring new unprecedented challenges.

From the emergence of Homo sapiens, it took roughly 300,000 years before one billion of us populated the Earth, with people evolving into their current form some 200,000 years ago.

(Huts, 2 million years ago. Boats, 900,000 years ago. Cooking, 500,000 years ago. Javelins, 400,000 years ago, Glue, 200,000 years ago. Clothing possibly 170,000 years ago.)

“Behavioural modernity,” evolved 50,000-65,000 years ago.  It took 15,000 to 10,000 years to start growing stable foods.

The planet most likely will surpass eight billion people sometime around mid-November. (The world population is to exceed 10 billion this century.)

Climate change – the world population – technologies inequality – you name it, will determine how many of us will be living on Earth as we approach 2100.

There can be no mistaking the import of this, as it belies the dangers of the next several decades which will see migration on a massive scale, due wars because of runaway climate change.A photograph of a person facing away from the camera, standing with their arms raised, in front of factories with smokestacks emitting smoke

Unprecedented droughts or city-destroying floods would prompt mass migrations, destabilizing the rich world or giving rise to far-right nationalism. Or a global famine could send food prices surging, triggering old-fashioned resource wars.

Survival and success do not depend on brutal force. There is an empirical connection between violence and climate change that’s persists across 12,000 years of human history.

The long chain of evolutionary development has taught us with technology and political trends conflict will continue and even intensify.

“Whether we like it or not changes will be happening, and the situation will not improve by itself.

The future well-being and actual life on earth depends on us all and our ability to express compassion and work together as the eusocial creatures we de facto are.

“No one is doing this in the right way at the moment,”

World hunger, ecological and environmental disaster, global warming, massive shifts in weather systems, the re-emergence of diseases long thought controlled, with political turmoil, in a world where a barrel of water is more expensive than a barrel of oil.

Empathy, compassion and cooperation are now so saturated by Tec that we are becoming a species totally unscrew and desentized to reality, others, and their needs, becoming algorithms predictions.

Efforts so far to incorporate climate change into future population projections have been inadequate.

————-

Where is it leading us?

To answer that, we have to think about how we got here in the first place – Greed

Currently it is estimated for that 50 million people are living on less than the $3.65 a day, with half of the global population lives on less than US$6.85.

You could add another few billons who are not poor enough to feature.

The world is divided into the very rich, and the very poor. And since everybody knows there aren’t a whole lot of very rich people, they assume the majority of the world’s population is living in extreme poverty. But that’s completely wrong; the overwhelming majority of people live somewhere in the middle.

Our problem is inequality, attached to Greed, which is now plundering the world in the form of profit seeking algorithms that are generating profits for the few, using the latest technology Algorithmic trading designed to capitalize on market inefficiencies, trades can be completed at speeds and frequencies impossible for mere mortals.

Algorithm’s are creating a new social contract between a sovereign and citizens, in which the people collectively who were sovereign are becoming digitalised citizens.

Power now resides with those best able to organize knowledge.

The knowledge revolution should bring a shift to direct democracy, but those who benefit from the current structure are fighting this transition. This is the source of much angst around the world, including the current wave of popular protests.

Neither, physical military strength, nor access to capital are now sufficient for economic success.

If we are to have any chance, we have to change to direct democracy which is easier to achieve than big, sprawling governments.

I’m not sure we can, but I know it will happen because capitalism or any other systems will no longer generate sufficient income to sustain social welfair states.

———————

The problem is how do we reconcile that with democracy in countries composed of millions of citizens?

Talk of artificial intelligence destroying humanity plays into the tech companies’ agenda, and hinders effective regulation of the societal harms AI is causing right now.

Barely a week seems to go by without a tech industry insider trumpeting the existential risks of artificial intelligence (AI). Fearmongering narratives about existential risks are not constructive.

Serious discussion about actual risks, and action to contain them, are.

The sooner humanity establishes its rules of engagement with AI, the sooner we can learn to live in harmony with the technology.

Algos require an uninterrupted power supply and reliable internet access. Even a brief failure in these conditions can prove cataclysmic.

Memorandum for Green Bond Issuers: Certain Aspects and Considerations - Herman, Henry & Dominic LLP

What is needed are direct opportunities for all to invest in the future.

One of our fundamental challenges in the years ahead will be to mobilize the substantial sums needed for investment in everything from green infrastructure to the cutting-edge technologies that we will need to achieve net zero emissions by 2050 and slow the course of climate change.

At the moment we have Green bonds/Climate change bonds are issued exclusively to finance projects that positively impact the environment. Today, more than 50 countries have issued green bonds. However, the appeal of this market and the fact that there is no binding regulatory framework for green bonds may lead to suspicions of ‘greenwashing’ (false green claims).

There’s nothing new or specifically European about green bonds.

They’ve been around since the beginning of the 21st century. Although they weren’t yet called green bonds, the first of them are thought to have been issued in 2001 by the City of San Francisco to finance a solar power project.

Any organization – such as governments, corporations, and financial institutions – can issue a green bond.

The green bond market is a portion of the larger debt market. Historically, over US$2 trillion of green bonds have been issued globally to date, with the potential to grow to US$5 trillion by 2025.

Industry bodies and investor action groups such as Climate Action 100+, as well as large
market investors such as sovereign wealth funds and pension funds, are in a strong position to drive development of this market. However there is no universally accepted legal and commercial definition of a green bond.

Green bonds are proven to be an effective means to secure the resources required to meet the national climate change goals, so why not issue green bonds that any joe soap could invest in.

Lotteries exist in 46.67% of countries worldwide. In many countries, with the adoption of digitalization the Lottery is a lifestyle and a massive contribution to their revenues. The Lottery industry continues to grow worldwide, with an expected increase of 4.1% CAGR by 2031. The spread of online lotteries associated with the increase in smartphone and internet usage is one of many factors that can drive growth in the global market. The Lottery market is projected to grow to $405.20 billion by 2028.

US POWERBALL 59 tickets were sold every second of the year.

MEGA MILLIONS 2,817 tickets every minute or about 47 tickets every second—of the whole year!

EUROMILLIONS 342 EuroMillions tickets were sold every single second of 2019—or 20,566 tickets a minute!

UK LOTTO 122 lottery tickets for every one of the 31,536,000 seconds in 2019

They allows us all the chance to change our lives.

A staggering amount of money that goes into lotteries on a daily basis. In fact, just about every second of every day.

By making 1% OF ANY LOTTO TICKETS purchase eligible to acquire a climate Bond (with a gurantee interest return in twenty years from now..) RATHER THAN BIN THE TICKET ON LOOSING ONE COLLECTS THEM IN ORDER TO FUND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT.

It would be everyone’s collective interest to identify with the physical manifestations of climate change.

Climate change is a defining issue of our time.

( Fifteen minute read)

Put simply, the meaning of life is life itself.

You can write volumes on the state of the world, but one has only to look at the state of the world to see what algorithms are doing.

Algorithms form an increasingly important part of our daily lives, even if we are often unaware of it.

Most of us have no idea what they are — or how we’re being influenced by them.

They have become instrumental in our everyday lives.

Algorithms are making hugely consequential decisions in our society on everything from medicine to transportation to welfare benefits to criminal justice and beyond. Subtly shifting the way our society is operating.

We can see them at work in the world. We know they’re shaping outcomes all around us.

Are we making a mistake by handing over so much decision-making authority to these programs?

This paradox—that the internet is both saviour and executioner of democracy is part of a massive unfolding social experiment.

The proliferation of algorithms is eroding our ability to think and decide for ourselves. They are turning people into products, and they don’t even realize it.

Billions of people around the world are interacting with these technologies, which is why the tiniest changes can have such a gigantic impact on all of humanity.

We will blindly follow them wherever they lead us. There is no one assessing whether or not they are providing a net benefit or cost to society.

WE DON’T HAVE TO CREATE A WORLD IN WHICH MACHINES ARE TELLING US WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO THINK, ALTHOUGH WE MAY VERY WELL END UP IN A WORLD LIKE THAT WHERE ALGORITHMS DECIDE WHO LIVES OR WHO DIES.

How you see the world matters.

————————

Beliefs are the things we hold true, regardless of whether we have any proof of their objective truth.

You see, in time, beliefs become labels.

We plaster them on our foreheads and use them to justify our action or inaction. That belief will then drive how you behave as you interpret it as being damning or empowering.

We all would be a lot happier if everyone else around us had the same beliefs as we do, or at least, that they would not challenge us on them. Of course, that is impossible, and this is precisely what fuels most of the world’s conflicts.

And here comes the kicker:

You can decide the direction you take. Your beliefs do not control you, so long as you become self-aware and take charge of your life. Or maybe if you assume everything will fall apart, you never get disappointed.

So, herein lies the persistent conflict of our society:

All of us are driven by our life experiences and by merely being human, but the creeping influence of algorithms in our lives are fucking up the world. We’re increasingly moving towards government by algorithm.

Automated systems are being rolled out with little transparency or public debate, and risk exacerbating existing inequalities.

The algorithm takes the biases and prejudices of the real world and ‘bakes them in’, and gives them a veneer that makes it seem like a policy choice is actually neutral and technical. But it isn’t,”

The problem is, both beliefs and values have strong momentum and seem glued to our character.

How do these beliefs played out in real life?

Are we just becoming throwaway survival machines, following our genetic and neurological programming in an indifferent world?

I believe that human life and the world mean much more than that.

There’s beauty everywhere—we have only to open our eyes to see it.

——————–

When it comes to climate change, the science is settled.

When it comes to technology its all together the opposite.

The sobering truth is that both the climate and technology are out of control.

Given the difficulty of getting the human brain or our political system to tackle anything beyond immediate crises, our attempts to rectify what’s wrong are usual puny compared to what’s really needed.

If you listen to our politicians, there is a strong consensus on climate change.

It consists of four parts.

First, carbon emissions are causing significant changes to our climate. Second, we need to take urgent action to reduce those emissions, including reaching net zero by 2050. Third, we have already made good progress in reducing emissions. And fourth, the steps we need to take to reduce emissions further will also bring many positive benefits for society.

We have a pretty clear understanding of the threat climate change poses to us, our children and our grandchildren. We are already being forced to cope with more droughts, more floods, more extreme storms. At the same time, we have in our arsenal effective policies that are difficult for rational people to demagogue as crippling to the economy or as a subversion of our cherished way of life.

So why does climate misinformation continue to spread online and in our media?

Dire warnings of the looming climate disaster may just make people throw up their hands in despair, sink into denial, or dig their heels in deeper against government action.

Instead, we seem to firmly believe that climate solutions inevitably mean more government, higher taxes and less freedom — and thus are threats to all our core values and identity.

———————-

Technology’s benefits are numerous in all fields, however in the system’s that effect our daily lives it is becoming a threat to our core values, through the use of algorithms. Pushing us like a digital slave army to mindlessly, unwittingly and unwillingly livestream our digital existences into the commercial coffers of companies that see us as nothing more than walking dollar signs.

Examples:

Every time you pick up your smartphone, you’re summoning algorithms. At this point, they are responsible for making decisions about pretty much every aspect of our lives.

The right to an explanation of an algorithm-generated decision does little to fix “systemic injustices” Getting an explanation but no democratic say in how systems work is like getting a privacy policy without a ‘do not consent’ button.

Deciding who gets access to welfare. Using automated interviews with a virtual border guard, based on “deception detection algorithm. Using algorithms to model when and where crime will happen — an area known as predictive policing — is on the rise. Using algorithms to come up with a personality assessment. Having your credit rating scored decided by an algorithm based on questionable data.

Grading algorithm does not not relied solely on automated means. Substituting a mathematical approach for human judgment does not automatically make it fair.

Profit seeking algorithms. Market making algorithms. Execution algorithms Scheduled algorithms. Participation algorithms. VWAP and TWAP algorithms are time-slicing algorithms. Liquidity-seeking algorithms (a.k.a. opportunistic algorithms) Arrival price algorithms seek to trade close to market prices.

Recent developments in algorithmic trading include clustering and high-frequency market forecasting  are playing a central role in finance.

The worst-case scenario is that we fail to disrupt the status quo, in which very powerful companies develop and deploy AI in invisible and obscure ways.

We have no right to see all of the data these companies collect about us, no right to get a percentage when they resell our data without our knowledge or informed consent, no right to ask them to stop. We are for all purposes indentured servants, offered free digital room and board in return for paying with our digital souls and our real-world time.

Social media companies have managed only to create a toxic brew of horrific hate speech that they cannot seem to get rid of.

Algorithms really are so powerful that a few lines of code can push us into any behaviour.

The right message targeted at the right time could mass convert the entire population of a country into mindless zombies who would readily convert even their most deeply held beliefs in an instant.

When it is obvious to all is that the world is changing, responding faster than expected to Technology’s

Why are we being such idiots?

What gives? It’s not that we are stupid or blind our core values are under attack.

If everything is a core value, then nothing is really a priority.

In this age where technology is dominant, core values may seem like something from the past. So core values may not seem like they have a place.

All of this data is used first and foremost to make money from us.

There is a really frustrating lag between what AI is capable of and what it’s legislated for.

Core values are the foundational beliefs held by an individual or an organisation.

Anyone can go to Google and search the meaning of core values,. There are another thing on your to-do list that you don’t have time for, but what about the bigger picture?

When you hear about core values, what comes to mind?

Core values make the biggest difference between successful and failure.

There are more than just words on a wall — it’s how you behave. It’s who you are at your core.

Everyone knows their role, what is expected of them, and they are empowered to act in accordance with their core values.

Once upon a time voting or making decisions in alignment with your core values were the foundation of who we are as individuals. Not any longer with Algorithms running social media.

——————–

To look at it simply, culture is just a collection of people. It is the environment created by the cumulative behaviour of the people.

We all have things that we value deeply, whether we realize it or not.

You remember values, don’t you? You know, those moral thoughts and behaviours we used to hold dear, like decency, civility, honesty and respect, as well as caring, optimism, empathy, and tolerance?

They were once a beacon of idealism. Rewarding behaviour based on them, and align all of our decisions with them.

Core values represent the lens which we view the world. They must be embedded in everything we do.

These “alt” credos and codes of behaviour are the trademarks of the incivility we witness on a daily basis, often expressed with rancour and rage. They have become commonplace on television, in social media and in everyday life. Of even more concern is that these new “moral standards” serve as models of behaviour for our impressionable children and youth.

Hold one another accountable for staying aligned with the values—it’s better not to profess any values at all.

———————

Education and knowledge were cornerstones of our achievement.

We are now living in society that at large looks to social media /television and film personalities for political advice.

You must ensure they are accurate, meaningful, relatable and fully operationalized.

If we continue our descent into callousness, selfishness and hostility, we negatively impact and harm the quality of our lives. We could lose sight of our basic human values and diminish the essence of what MAKES THE WORLD BEAUTIFUL.

Achieving a more transparent and less manipulative media may well be the defining political battle of the 21st century.

Just as we are using our formidable intellect and creativity to reduce our carbon footprint, we can similarly mobilize our resources to improve our emotional footprint, or how we treat and affect each other.

Values are the criteria by which individuals judge ideas, objects, people, situations, and actions as good, worthwhile, desirable, wrong, worthless, or undesirable

.Values are individuals’ embedded abstract motivations. They guide individuals to understand, justify, and explain norms, attitudes, and actions. One of the limitations of examining values is that values cannot  be generalized because they vary between a person and another, culture and another, society and another, even a country and another, thus scrutinizing values will be different in the future.

Core values can be only be fostered in Education, not in schools but with compulsory NATIONAL SERVICE.

(Four minute read)

2024, Global climate trends are cause for both deep alarm, and our continuing denial of the absurdity of the verbal discussions on the subject, a task which is now monumental.

“We have built a civilization based on a world that doesn’t exist anymore.”

“We are conducting an unprecedented experiment with our planet,”

We have now unmoored ourselves from our past, as if we have transplanted ourselves onto another planet.

Without immediate action, we are at grave risk of crossing irreversible tipping points in the Earth’s climate system. +2.0C+3.6F with our current policies is the reality by around 2050s.

The world has already heated up by around 1.2C, on average, since the preindustrial era, pushing humanity beyond almost all historical boundaries,

AND WE STILL CANNOT EXCEPT THE INEVITABLE.

The enormous, unprecedented pain and turmoil caused by the climate crisis is often discussed alongside what can seem like surprisingly small temperature increases – 1.5C or 2C.

“The difference between 1.5C and 2C is a death sentence”.  No amount of global warming can be considered safe and people are already dying from climate change.

A severe heatwave historically expected once a decade will happen every other year at 2C.

The fingerprint of climate change on recent extreme weather is quite clear, In fact, extraordinary, with the oceans alone absorbing the heat equivalent of five Hiroshima atomic bombs dropping into the water every second.  The oceans have heated up at a rate not seen in at least 11,000 years.

——————

These temperature thresholds will again be the focus of upcoming UN climate talks and Climate Summits

Thirty years of climate summits:  Where have they got us?

All have proved that its nearly impossible to achieve any coordination, with the whole process becoming too business-friendly, to the detriment of other perspectives and voices.

It is important to look at the bigger picture.

By most standards the world’s governments are currently failing to avert a grim fate.

To COP28 UN Climate Change Conference in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, was the biggest of its kind. Some 85,000 participants, including more than 150 Heads of State and Government, were among the representatives of national delegations, civil society, business, Indigenous Peoples, youth, philanthropy, and international organizations in attendance at the Conference from 30 November to 13 December 2023.

Given these problems and repeated failures, why continue with the COP meetings?

Because we are arriving at tipping points that represent thresholds which, when crossed, will trigger abrupt and self-perpetuating changes to the world’s climate and oceans.

They are threats of a magnitude never before faced by humanity – one-way doors we do not want to go through.

Governments are more concerned about Energy and food price rises mean that governments face a cost of living and energy security crisis, with some threatening to respond by returning to fossil fuels, including coal.

The climate disaster is here. There is no huge chasm after a 1.49C rise.

Superimposed on top of these long-term warming trends overshadow the real-world hazards they amplify: Heat waves, floods, droughts, wars and mass migration.

Meaning that people and ecosystems are dying, that people are losing their livelihoods, that agricultural land will be unusable.

For climate scientists, this is the “I told you so” moment they never wanted.

So what we’re seeing now is only a foretaste of what could happen if efforts to reduce emissions aren’t successful.

I hope that maybe more people will realize that this is really happening and put pressure on their representative to put actions on the top of their agendas. Our individual choices can challenge the status quo, and force things to change.

Like cleaning up the Advertising Industry to sustainability rather then consumerism across all their out lets – Main Stream TV, Socially Media, Bill Boards and the like.

To cut out the hypocrisy in Trade deals that are not Green, along with home grown policies to grow the economy above genuine climate demanding Projects.  To push for a consumer chapter to be included in future deals which reflects the issues that are most important to consumers.

So what’s stopping us from getting there?

The rules governing global trade policy mean that powerful countries and corporations escape accountability.

One of the biggest examples of hypocrisy is the EU’s common agricultural policy – or CAP – established over 50 years ago and currently under reform. This policy, thanks also to the support of highly protective tariffs and agro-chemical companies, has allowed destructive intensive practices to become the default way European food is produced.

Why are French farmers protesting? Their slogan reads “It doesn’t make sense” ~Shat Upon by Regulations, on environmental protection.

They are not being paid enough TO FUCK IT UP.

Perhaps our slogan should be: # ITSALLBOLLOCKS.

We can challenge the myth that we have to choose between protectionism versus free trade, and end the myth that free trade brings any meaningful benefit to the average consumer.

( Three minute read)

Man is said to have evolved from monkeys and apes …but we still have monkeys and apes.

We live in a world of verball diarrhoea, another words every Joe saop has an opinion.

However the world today is being expressed as a single unified, interconnected and interdependent global system, and since we wish to remain as our individualistic egoistic selves while the world becomes more and more connected, we experience such tightening connection as suffering.

Characterized by intricate interconnections, rapid advancements in technology, globalization, diverse geopolitical challenges, and a multitude of social, economic, and environmental issues.

Since everyone understands the world from his/her own perspective which may be different from others due to religions beliefs we cannot understand what wholeness is.

Our world is beautiful but screwed.

71% water, average 93,000,000 miles away from a white star, around which it completes an elliptical orbit every 365.25 days with a dominant species are Homo Sapiens, which can live anywhere. It has one large satellite measuring 2,159 miles in diameter which is some 239,000 miles distant and is tidally locked.

—————–

With it’s current greedy drive for more – more this, more that, more me, me, me. causing greater and greater stress to the planet, earth is experiencing its hottest year on record and massive floods, fires and other climate-related disasters have taken root.

And lack of action on climate change threatens billions of lives and livelihoods.

Most of us know this but we don’t know when something amazing or horrible will happen next and it could be the greatest or worst thing for this world.

Like the opening of a massive technological gap between the global rich and the poor.

As our World becomes more disaster prone due to the extreme changes to our Climate, these vestibules of self-interest will be dumped for hardline practical leaders who will do whatever is necessary for the survival of mankind.

In the mean time all we do is fight over utterly meaningless bullshit.

———————————–

We carry affordable supercomputers in our pockets, and that is even more powerful than it sounds.

  • It has created multiple civilizations, none of which has been able to achieve a satisfactory minimum level of quality of life; the poorest people still live in inhumane conditions; the very few richest people own more than the all of the rest put together.
  • Most markets are moving online, moving from the physical world into the digital app world, until they’ll be purged there too by oligarchies; which will be the next medium?
  • Right wing politics and populism continue to gain ground through advocating individual freedom to prosper, while left wing politics is failing to establish and administer a necessary minimum of social equality and governmental regulation, which continues to propagate financial deregulation aka greed is good which in turn prevents a normal fluctuation of economy turning it into steep growth and catastrophic chain reaction crashes.
  • The extreme conservatism of certain societies founded on medieval concepts and flawed morals coupled with perpetual poverty and social stagnation certainly help maintaining inequality in the world.
  • Alternatively, we may destroy ourselves in the midst of our seemingly endless growth, and nature will resume its course over the centuries and millenia to come.
  • How can anyone with an active mind, who is aware of all this, neatly summarize his or her POV “of the world today” with A SINGLE WORD???????
  • Pretty nonsensical, if you take a couple of minutes to think about it.

The chances of wholeness happening now are roughly zero.

Why?

Because politicians who were starved of intelligent thinking and ARE BEING ELECTED INTO OFFICE BY DIGITLIZED CITIZENS RUN BY PROFIT SEEKING ALGORITHMS.

Recent advances in artificial intelligence raise a variety of questions about how to control a technology that could improve or threaten civilization in countless ways.

The Doomsday Clock that has been ticking for 77 years.  The clock isn’t designed to definitively measure existential threats, but rather to spark conversations about difficult scientific topics such as climate change. Trends continue to point ominously towards global catastrophe.

Due to ongoing concerns about the war in Ukraine, the Israel-Gaza conflict, the potential of a nuclear arms race, and the climate crisis, its almost impossible to get people’s attention about existential threats and the required action.

We can reduce them but doing so is not easy, nor has it ever been. It requires serious work and global engagement at all levels of society.

The war in Ukraine poses an ever-present risk of nuclear escalation. And the October 7 attack in Israel and war in Gaza provides further illustration of the horrors of modern war, even without nuclear escalation.

A more realistic endpoint to both wars would be a military ceasefire, in which increasingly exhausted combatants see frontline positions harden around a line of control. That will become clearer by the summer or autumn, and will at some point prompt a question for its western backers: how long should the west continue supplying military aid at current levels to Ukraine/Israel

This requires a collective even harder stance.

A political earthquake. That’s the metaphor that stuck.

——————–

What if science itself is in some way culpable for all this?

We don’t know the real answer yet, and we probably will never know, but this is the moment to anticipate what such a finding might ultimately mean. It could obliterate the faith of millions.

This may be the great scientific meta-experiment of the 21st century. That the common people of the world have been forced into a real-life lab experiment, at tremendous cost — there is a moral earthquake on the way.

All of these disasters brought to you by the total, self-assured unanimity of the highly educated people who are supposed to know what they’re doing, plus the total complacency of the highly educated people who are supposed to be supervising them.

A perfect storm, as institutions crumpled and collapsed. with new fault lines targeting up the most powerful country on the planet.

Don’t disengage as digital technology is disrupting international politics in myriad ways.

To start, it is bringing new dimensions to the authoritarian playbook, enabling governments to more easily manipulate information consumed by citizens, to monitor dissent and track political opponents, and to censor communications.

Democracies, meanwhile, are struggling to strike the right balance between rewarding economic innovation and reaping the financial benefits of Big Tech, while protecting user privacy, guarding against surveillance misuses, and countering disinformation and hate speech.

Can democracies strike an appropriate balance between safeguarding their societies from dangerously polarizing online rhetoric while maintaining commitments to protecting free expression?

Can civic activists, independent journalists, and human rights advocates continue to find innovative ways to push back against government repression using new tools, tactics, and technologies?

The answers to these questions are not foretold—all of them represent major areas of contestation.

But one thing is clear. There is an expanding set of countries relying on facial recognition technology, big data analytics, predictive policing techniques, and safe city systems to enhance their security capabilities. There is now a close relationship between authoritarian regimes, constraints on political freedoms, and corresponding government reliance on digital repression techniques.

What technological methods are Gulf states using to enact their political agendas?

What can civil society make of the growth of internet shutdowns and social media blockages around the world?

Government disdain for international human rights principles “is pushing resistance to the breaking point.”

Disinformation has become the tool of choice for many illiberal regimes. From extreme political movements, particularly far-right groups, which harness social media to propagate falsehoods, spread conspiracy theories, and foment polarization and identity politics.

Flooding  social media channels with competing or distracting information that overwhelms legitimate information sources, and deliberately post offensive content online to provoke or disrupt conversations

.A bigger question is how much governments should hold platforms responsible for facilitating the spread of bad information .

It is insufficient to blame Facebook or Twitter’s poor leadership for the much more complicated proliferation of politically motivated falsehoods.

These varying global perspectives shed light on emerging areas of contestation and highlight the complexities, urgency, and dangers involved in the advance of digital technologies and their effects on politics globally.

One has only to look at technology usage in the current wars in order to relise that Alogrithms are ruling not just how lives or dies on the battle fields but the direction we all going in our everyday lives.

( Five minute read)

A global pandemic killing millions of people and forcing entire countries into lockdown.

Then inflation takes off and (not unrelated) one country invades another and the resulting war affects us all.

Whoa! Where on Earth did all that come from?

We have to think about how we got here.

As if we don’t know its all wrapped up in one word   Inequality.Black placard with 'one world' written on it.

The cost of things average people must buy—healthcare, education, housing—tends to have risen more than wages did over the last two decades. Rising inequality across income, race and gender all demand urgent attention. It needs to made clear to leaders that in 2024 their citizens are expecting them to raise their ambition for humanity and deliver bold agreements to tackle poverty, inequality and climate change.

Government’s policy making will need to become more innovative to address such challenges other wise we going to have a left behind technological societies. We’re going to see, unfortunately, more technological unemployment. We’re going to have to think very carefully in political terms and in social terms about the implications of further automation.

Individual responsibility will play a role, too, in areas such as climate change.

To ignore the issue of inequality culture will need to adjust in terms of revisiting some of our values.

—————–

To start thinking outside of the box. We may have to consider very seriously ideas such as a universal basic income.

There are just over 7 billion people living on the planet today, spread between 196 (recognized) countries. Within each of these countries are groups of people with different ethnic backgrounds, different religious beliefs, different political beliefs. It’s because of these differences, you could argue, that the world is plagued by conflict.

Unfortunately, the future isn’t talking. It’s just coming, like it or not and we as individuals need to take ownership of this.

I dont know about you but I realized long ago that globalization was on its last legs. I also realize this isn’t pleasant to think about. Western economies have become knowledge based. This means Marx’s three factors of production (land, labor, capital) now have a fourth.

Politics as a social contract between a sovereign and citizens is no longer working. Each individual’s share of sovereignty, and therefore their freedom, diminishes as the social contract includes more people.

Power now resides with those best able to organize knowledge turning politicians into basically middlemen, bring a shift to direct democracy, with popular social media protests swamping sprawling governments.

We must do more to assertively channel technology to support progress and protect people and the planet.

As we entered the the 2020s it is clear that we are far from unlocking the potential of technology for our toughest challenges. We stand at a critical juncture to put these technologies to work in a responsible way for people and the planet.

Technology and political trends are aligning against mega-powers like the US and China.

How do we reconcile that with democracy in countries with millions of citizens?

Not with “America Alone” ” Brexit” or any other forms of isolation, which are highly problematic, as they are based on anxiety and insecurity, so inevitably create discord and division.

This is obvious to anyone with a brain looking at climate change – trade – wars – inequality – technology’s – and ideologies of I am all right Jack.

—————————

Historically, political regimes tend not to last more than a few centuries.

I’m not sure we can. Some things are so horrible, you don’t want to think about them.

  • Today’s great powers have little choice but to spend their way to political stability, which is unsustainable, and/or try to control knowledge, which is difficult.
  • Nor do we have any elder statesmen or nationally unifying figures whom everyone respects, much less agrees with. This will make our various problems worse.
  • Ownership rights mean little without a government to protect them and courts to settle disputes.
  • This world we now inhabit wasn’t always fit for human’s nothing requires it to remain so. At some point, it will develop into something else. When and how that will happen, we don’t know yet. But we know it will.
  • We haven’t even talked about climate change. Issues like climate change will create further exacerbations on conflicts, and new forms of technological and cyber warfare could threaten countries’ elections and manipulate populations.

In the last two years: 90% of the data in the world was created.

Now it is up  – technology companies large and small, industry, policy-makers, citizens and consumers alike – to use this power for good, before we run out of time. Now is the opportunity for leaders to step up into this new wave of opportunity and expectation.

We are the first generation to know we’re destroying the world, and we could be the last that can do anything about it. Our leaders are not on track to deliver. We need to ensure we hold our politicians accountable.

Food production is a major driver of wildlife extinction. We need to make wasting our resources unacceptable in all aspects of our life. We can all do more to be more conscious about what we buy, and where we buy it from.

We can and must end poverty and hunger, in all their forms and dimensions by addressing the underlying complex issues of fragility, conflict, and displacement and the looming threat of climate change.

The challenges facing the world are complex and intertwined and require complex solutions.

Another word is about to enter our collective dictionaries: permacrisis. What we do between now and 2030 will determine whether we as a collective species are intelligent or just dumm machines

Solutions to climate change and biodiversity loss won’t come from any one sector: they’ll come from governments, finance, business and civil society.

We’re analyzing satellite images but unable to see the picture that we all live on the same planet.

Like most of us, we are brought up to think in terms of countries with borders and different nationalities.

In some cases, there are natural borders formed by sea or mountains, but often borders between nations are simply abstractions, imaginary boundaries established by agreement or conflict.

How then do we explain nationalism? Why do humans separate themselves into groups and take on different national identities? Maybe different groups are helpful in terms of organisation, but that doesn’t explain why we feel different. Or why different nations compete and fight with one another.

When people are made to feel insecure and anxious, they tend to become more concerned with nationalism, status and success. Poverty and economic instability often lead to increased nationalism and to ethnic conflict.

The world in general does not have a sense of group identity.

If a terrorist’s biggest weapon is terror, climate change is going to inflict terror beyond belief.

Tsunami’s. Earthquake’s, Hurricane’s, Flood’s, War’s

We must shift 85% of the world’s energy supply to non-fossil fuel sources, not grant more oil exploration licences.  Our economies depend on healthy, supportive natural systems.

A more sustainable path is possible. But we need to rally individuals, governments, companies and communities around the world to take action with us over the next decade.

It’s impossible to override the fundamental interconnectedness of the human race.

People from all around the world need to take a stand a citizen’s movement using the NEW BEADY EYE HASHTAG:   #movebeyonditwiththebeadyeye

( Thirty minute read)

In fairness, the world won’t suddenly end on January 1, 2024.

There are three visions from humans today. span space colonies, a genetic panopticon, and straight-up apocalypse.Navigating The Future: 10 Global Trends That Will Define 2024

It is said that there no such thing a reality, as everything that is observed once un-observed does not exist, – Quantum Physics – Interactions.

But reality in our world does not have to be observed, it’s plain for all to see.

Yes we are all born without any understanding of the world.

In recent years we’ve learned that the human brain is actually a master of deception, and your experiences and actions do not reveal its inner workings.

Our lives are a constant struggle, not just to survive, but to understand that we all must die, leaving behind information. This left behind data and current data is now been harvested, not so much for the betterment of the world but for short term profit for the few.

Technology has changed how we interact among ourselves and with our surrounding environment and we must engage in a philosophical reflection on how we currently understand the “new” world we are a part of.

Luckily our collective conscious or conceptions of what is real in the world are not computable.

However the future of society, as defined by the scientific and technological revolutions, which needs a custom ethical and philosophical direction will change with genetic editing; and artificial intelligence challenges the concept of “I” and “individual;” and robotics will bring new “companion robots,” which we need to define and adopt socially.

In order to pair our knowledge of events with the true timeframe of when those events occurred, to really understand what’s happening, we must “extract potential signals from the noise of all this data.

Why?

Because misinterpreting those signals will have profound consequences.

For example:

How pathetic it is to witness the only word organisation the UN unable to agree on what constitutes a genocide, to call on Israel to stop its war on a trapped people.

—————-

First let me awaken you to 2024 by reminding you of the news year you’ve just lived through – or by warning you of the news year you’re about to live through.

To describe the present day I suppose that the best way is to draw a comparison with a War Ship of the Line during Nelson days. Although full of cannons and every class of humanity, for it to be operational, it had to rely on rules and regulations, which meant nothing, as everything ends up tied together, and nothing worked without the power of nature.  No wind, no victory.

Our world is similar, full of people, with individual names, all living within tribal nations, ruled by law, but governed by the planetary balance in its true nature, providing life. No fresh water, no fresh air, no food, annihilation.

These days, when it comes to ecosystems ( its not how we live or where we live, or when we live, which  means nothing unless you are fully conscience of the greed of a few and its continuing effects on the inequalities that exist on the planet.

————-

There isn’t a particular moment in which humanity came into existence, as the transition from species to species is gradual.

The demographers estimate that in the 200,000 years before us about 109 billion people have lived and died. It is these 109 billion people we have to thank for the civilization that we live in.

In 2024 there will about 8 billion of us alive. Taken together with those who have died, about 117 billion humans have been born since the dawn of modern humankind. This means that those of us who are alive now represent about 7% of all people who ever lived.

How many people will be born in the future? We don’t know.

But we know one thing: The future is immense, and the universe will exist for trillions of years.

In such a future, there would be 100 trillion people alive over the next 800,000 years.

One thing that sets us apart is that we now – and this is a recent development – have the power to destroy ourselves.

The key moral question of long termism is ‘what can we do to improve the world’s long-term prospects?

There are two other major risks that worry me greatly:

Pandemics, especially from engineered pathogens, and artificial intelligence technology. These technologies could lead to large catastrophes, either by someone using them as weapons or even unintentionally as a consequence of accidents.

We don’t have to think about people who live billions of years in the future to see our responsibilities. This shouldn’t give the impression that the risks we are facing are confined to the future.

Several large risks that could lead to unprecedented disasters are already with us now. AI capabilities and biotechnology have developed rapidly and are no longer science fiction; they are posing risks to those of us who are alive today.

As a society, we spend only little attention, money, and effort on the risks that imperil our future. Only very few are even thinking about these risks, when in fact these are problems that should be central to our culture. The unprecedented power of today’s technology requires unprecedented responsibility.

Algorithms can exacerbate divisions and inequality in society.

In truth, no one knows where the AI revolution will take us as a society or as a species, but our actions in 2024 will be critical to setting us on a path that leads to a happy outcome.

No one will remember the Internet.

We will be the ancestors of a very large number of people. Let’s make sure we are good ancestors.

Why?

Because to understand something is to be liberated from it.   Google it.

Back to 2024.

There are currently about a dozen major global conflicts, with the most recent one now repeating one of the most barbaric acts ever committed in a war (The Jewish Holocaust) However this time it is being committed by the very people who suffered it in the first place, waving the old testament as a title deed to Palestine, to justify the right to commit another genocide while the world stands by helpless to intervene.

The people who suffer from injustice, who withstand daily insults to their dignity, who are marginalised, silenced, exploited, left to die or killed cannot afford to ask themselves if they have hope. They cling on to life, they try to cope, they fight in front of a more or less a silent world, while it passing resolution’s to appease the two warmongering nations with vetoes.

Then we have the forgotten war in the Ukraine which is turning into a generation war.

No resolutions other than the resolve of the Ukraine people to its bitter end will bring peace.

—————

What Is Enlightenment when we turn a blind eye?

Full awakening comes when you sincerely look at yourself, deeper than you’ve imagined, and question everything.

To think for yourself, to think of putting yourself in the shoes of everyone else, and to always think consistently:  This is the principles of enlightened thinking, that produced the Bill of Human rights.

The foundation of a peaceful world.

Out of 13 major global conflicts, the newest ones are the Myanmar civil war, triggered shortly after a military coup in February 2021, and the war in Ukraine that started with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022. Seven of these conflicts are in Asia, including sectarian violence in Iraq following the pullout of the U.S. in December 2017, and Syria’s complicated civil war. Five of these conflicts are on the African continent.

To put it simply the state of the planet is broken because we have chosen a system of Capitalism that benefits the few over the many.

——————-

There is more to life than we are currently perceiving.

FOR EXAMPLE OUR REACTIONS TO CLIMATE CHANGE WHICH NOW HAS ITS OWN MOMENTUM AND ITS NOW CERTAIN THAT IT IS TOO LATE FOR THE WARS TO COME.  DRIVEN BY GREED.

WE ARE THE MOST COMPLICATED THING ON THE PLANET, ALL RELYING ON THE MOST BASIC THINGS.  Fresh air, Fresh water, etc.

In every moment, as you see, think, feel, and navigate the world around you, your perception of these things is built from ingredients. One is the signals we receive from the outside world. Your brain uses what you’ve seen, done, and learned in the past to explain sense data in the present, plan your next action, and predict what’s coming next.  This all happens automatically and invisibly, faster than you can snap your fingers. Much of this symphony is silent and outside your awareness, thank goodness. If you could feel every inner tug and rumble directly, you’d never pay attention to anything outside your skin.

Your mind is in fact an ongoing construction of your brain, your body, and the surrounding world.

Every act of recognition is a construction. You don’t see with your eyes; you see with your brain.

Your brain can even impose on a familiar object new functions that are not part of the object’s physical nature. TAKE A FEATHER FOR EXAMPLE.

Computers today can use machine learning to easily classify this object as a feather. But that’s not what human brains do. If you find this object on the ground in the woods, then sure, it’s a feather. But to an author in the 18th century, it’s a pen.

This incredible ability is called ad hoc category construction. In a flash, your brain employs past experience to construct a category such as “symbols of honor,” with that feather as a member.

Category membership is based not on physical similarities but on functional ones—how you’d use the object in a specific situation. Such categories are called abstract. A computer cannot “recognize” a feather as a reward for bravery because that information isn’t in the feather. It’s an abstract category constructed in the perceiver’s brain.

Computers can’t do this. Not yet, anyway.

Brains also have to decide which sense data is relevant and which is not, separating signal from noise. Economists and other scientists call this decision the problem of “value.”

Your thoughts and dreams, your emotions, even your experience right now as you read these words, are consequences of a central mission to keep you alive, regulating your body by constructing ad hoc categories. Most likely, you don’t experience your mind in this way, but under the hood (inside the skull), that’s what is happening.

Value itself is another abstract, constructed feature. It’s not intrinsic to the sense data emanating from the world, so it’s not detectable in the world. The importance of value is best seen in an ecological context.

Awaken out of their familiar senses of self, and out of their familiar senses of what the world is, into a much greater reality-into something far beyond anything they knew existed.

Being hopeful has nothing to do with how the world goes. It’s a kind of duty, a necessary complement to morality. What is the point of trying to do the right thing if we have no reason to think others do the same? What is the point of holding others responsible if we think responsibility is beyond their capacity?

Paradoxically, the worse the world goes, the more hopeful you must remain to be able to continue fighting. Being hopeful is not about guaranteeing the right outcome but preserving the right principle: the principle based on which a moral world makes sense.

On the contrary, they are crucial to filling the gap between the world in which we live and the one we have a responsibility to build.

Most people tend to think of hope as an attitude that sits somewhere between a desire and a belief: a desire for a certain outcome and the belief that something favours its realisation.

In the 18th century there were no algorithms, no social media, and no echo chambers, and it was, therefore, still possible to believe in enlightenment through public discourse.

What had the Enlightenment ever done for us, if it wasn’t even able to help us stop genocide?

There is such a gap between the world I read about, taught and believed in, and the one in which I lived.

All I could find were efforts to convince the world that killing innocent civilians is sometimes, for some people, under some conditions, acceptable.

Was it so absurd to believe that, at some level, politics can remain accountable to morality?

More and more people are waking up-having real, authentic glimpses of reality.

Your World has become a hugely popular geography app, full of substitution ciphers, concealment ciphers, transposition ciphers that can only be deciphered using AI programs, testing millions of combination per second, disregarding human feelings.

We can now listen to podcast describing killing, watch youtube with no access to truth itself, chained to the limits of our own perceptions. ( We all have different ideas of it)

The least the rest of us can do is to avoid questioning the grounds for hope, indulging ourselves even more. Perhaps this is the real political meaning of the Enlightenment: whether there is hope or not is only a relevant question for those who have the privilege to doubt it. That is a small fraction of the world.

Don’t despair.

Other matters>

We’re going to see, unfortunately, more technological unemployment.

How do we address the wealth gap? We may have to consider very seriously ideas such as a universal basic income.  We can no longer ignore the issue of inequality.

Culture will need to adjust in terms of revisiting some of our values.

We need to be more pro-environment in our own behavior as consumers.

The cost of things average people must buy—healthcare, education, housing—tends to have risen more than wages did over the last two decades.

Globalization vs. regionalization.

With the current wars and future wars globalization is on its last legs.

So the “America Alone” scenario within an otherwise China-centered world seems the most likely. Technology and political trends are aligning against mega-powers like the US and China.

Neither physical strength nor access to capital are sufficient for economic success. Power now resides with those best able to organize knowledge.

The internet has eliminated “middlemen” in most industries. In a representative democracy, politicians are basically middlemen. Hence, the knowledge revolution should bring a shift to direct democracy.

Today’s great powers have little choice but to spend their way to political stability, which is unsustainable.

This is the source of much angst around the world, including the current wave of popular protests.

The fact that our actions have an impact on the large number of people who will live after us should matter for how we think about our own lives.

The next decade will see a more than hundredfold boom in the world’s output of human genetic data.

The impact is hard to even imagine.

A world so saturated with genetic data will come with its own risks. The emergence of genetic surveillance states and the end of genetic privacy loom. Technical advances in encrypting genomes may help ameliorate some of those threats. But new laws will need to keep the risks and benefits of so much genetic knowledge in balance.

New models of delivering education will be needed to serve the citizens of crowded megacities as well as children in remote rural areas.

The United Nations is supposed to stick to more solid ground, but some of its Sustainable Development Goals for 2030 sound nearly as fantastical. In a mere 10 years, the UN plans to eradicate poverty “in all its forms everywhere.”  Bull shit, or is it.  Strong science coupled with political will might yet turn climate change around, and transform the UN’s predictions from a dream into reality.

Donald Trump  “America first , America First. There is however hope for the Earth.

The momentum for change is building. Humanity has a quality of finding creative solutions to challenges. If we keep each other safe – and protect ourselves from the risks that nature and we ourselves pose – we are only at the beginning of human history.

There are no catastrophes that loom before us which cannot be avoided.

We can only expect the pace of change to increase.

There is nothing that threatens us with imminent destruction in such a fashion that we are helpless to do something about it. In 2024, some will be refugees fleeing war, some will be economic migrants in search of a better life, and some will be looking to escape to parts of the world where life is not yet overly disrupted by rising temperatures and sea levels.

It seems that the message about climate change has not yet sunk in. 12 years left to avoid catastrophic climate change. The impact of climate emergency will bring profound change.

Finally:

Eighteenth-century thinker Jean-Jacques Rousseau wrestled with how to preserve individual freedom when we also have to depend on each other for survival. Rousseau saw politics as a social contract between a sovereign and citizens. What we call “government” is the interface between them.

The sovereigns of Rousseau’s time were mostly kings, but he envisioned a democracy in which the people collectively were sovereign. But then he ran into a math problem.

In a tiny democracy of, say, a thousand citizens, each possesses one-thousandth of the sovereignty… small, but enough to have a meaningful influence. Each individual’s share of sovereignty, and therefore their freedom, diminishes as the social contract includes more people. So, other things being equal, Rousseau thought smaller countries would be freer and more democratic than larger ones.

How do we reconcile that with democracy. I’m not sure we can. It worked pretty well for a long time but maybe, as population grows, the math is catching up to us. If so, the options are a non-democratic.

Perhaps the lands we now inhabit are not real Nothing requires them to remain so. At some point, they will develop into something else. When and how this will happen, we don’t know yet. But we know it will.

THE BEADY EYE SAY’S: CAPITALISM IS INCOMPATIBLE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST CLIMATE CHANGE.

Capitalism vs. the Climate., Climate change, The Future of Mankind

( Three minute read)

Why?

Because CAPITALISM turns everything into a product including us.

Global warming is rooted in an economic system that has a parasitold relationship with the Earth upon which we live.

Capitalism is simply incompatible with social justice and living in harmony with the Earth, so it has to be changed, and changed quickly. The clock is ticking.

We are entering a new era of profound challenge ― and free market capitalism cannot dig us out.

Economies that rely on the power of markets, don’t even recognize the problem as they’re too focused on short-term profits to take account of longer-term issues like climate change and environmental destruction.

Trusting that the free market capitalist dynamics will get us to net Zero, that of course is not going to happen.

The question now is the relationship between policy, mass movement and how radical we need to go to save the planet.

——————

Capitalism as a system is highly exploitative of both people and planet. It is driven by a desperate need for profit and accumulation. It is apparent that left on its own, our economic system will continue to destroy the basis for life on this planet until it is too late.

Why?

Because capitalism allows to much wriggle room, impeding effective action. As long as our economy chases after profit it will seek ways to circumvent any regulation.

If adequate policies had been adopted 30 years ago, we would be well on the way to achieving a zero-carbon economy at a very low cost. The fact that we did not is, in part, capitalism’s fault.

Merely regulating the private sector rather than making deep inroads into socialising capital and businesses.

Private property doesn’t remove the profit motive from the economy, it only seeks to constrain it in various ways.

State-led investment is fine, but on its own it does not particularly challenge capitalism as a socio-economic system. Indeed at its worst it props it up and helps overcome aspects of capitalism’s inherent instability. Venture capitalists financing brilliant technological breakthroughs have been matched by industry lobby groups successfully arguing against required regulations or carbon taxes.

All developed economies should commit to achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

And zero must mean zero, with no pretence that we can continue burning large quantities of fossil fuels in the late twenty-first century, balanced by equally large quantities of carbon capture and storage.

Once clear prices and regulations are in place, market competition and the profit motive will drive innovation, and economies of scale and learning-curve effects will force down the costs of zero-carbon technologies. And if we do not unleash that power, we will almost certainly fail to contain climate change.

We consistently hear the need to rapidly phase out all fossil fuels.

“A green industrial revolution expanding public, democratic ownership as far as necessary for the transformation”

“As far as necessary”. What is meant by that, only time will tell.

It is in the ambiguity of such phrases that you can read anything you like.

It could be read to mean a radical nationalisation plan which takes energy, transport, logistics, retail and all the other sectors that are heavy carbon emitters into public ownership to introduce plans to reduce their carbon footprint.

Or

It could mean a far more modest limited plan of taking bankrupt industries into temporary public ownership in order to ‘green’ them.

——————-

How to square the circle of the increasing need for socialised and democratic global solutions in a world of nation states and jealously guarded private property?

This is where a serious fight against climate change that tries to get to the root of the problem of capitalism is going to clash head-on with our political and legal system.

Of course if you see climate change from a revolutionary perspective then you rip up those capitalist laws that are protecting the ill-gotten gains of the rich who are plundering our natural environment until we are on the brink of social collapse.

The question is going to be both the interpretation of “as far as necessary” and also the political will to drive through the changes that will be necessary to start to plan our economy.

————

People are increasingly feeling the effects of rapid climate change. Cities boil in more than 120-degree heat, California burns and the Arctic thaws, thousands dyeing.

Meanwhile, biodiversity loss is reaching terrifying levels, with animals going extinct at about 1,000 times the natural rate. In addition, as societies, we’re facing increased inequality, unemployment and soaring personal debt levels.

Faced with these interconnected crises, “It can be safely said that no widely applicable economic models have been developed specifically for the upcoming era.”

In other words, we are at an ecological crunch point and we don’t have the economic tools to deal with it.

We are past this discussion of should we have capitalism or should we have something else.

Do we aim for more consumption or do we aim for liveable environments in the future?

All these changes require concerted political action.

There must be a comprehensive vision and closely coordinated plans. Otherwise a rapid system level transformation towards global sustainability goals is inconceivable.President Donald Trump at a political rally in Charleston, West Virginia, on Aug. 21. His administration announced a plan to weaken environmental regulations on coal plants.

People are starting to genuinely worry about their future security and looking for collective action.

These kind of things might actually start to matter quite a bit more than caring about a new iPhone.

Sovereign governments cannot run out of money, thus debunking the argument that economies cannot afford to make the transformations needed to address climate change.

Humanity has lost the battle against climate change.

If we are to be honest we can’t blame climate change anything but ourselves.

All actions now need will have an effect on how the world goes into any future of adaptation.

THE BEADY EYE LOOKS AT: GREENWASHING

Capitalism and Greed, Climate change

( Two minute read)

One of the greatest problem in tackling climate change is every thing has been turned into a product to be sold. including climate change.

“Capitalism is incompatible with the fight against climate change” and greenwashing is a prime example of this.

  • Greenwashing delays or stops the action we need to move to better systems for people and the planet. A false eco-branded product or carbon offsetting may make us feel we’re doing well.
  • Carbon Credits. A way to try to make up for the pollution you cause, instead of trying to reduce it. Usually it’s done by paying others to reduce carbon emissions or take carbon out of the atmosphere. It’s greenwashing because it still means lots of carbon goes into the atmosphere.

When businesses use terms such as ” environmentally friendly ” and “green” they are often meaningless.

Greenwashing is the process of conveying a false impression or misleading information about how a company’s products are environmentally sound.

Greenwashing involves making an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into believing that a company’s products are environmentally friendly or have a greater positive environmental impact than they actually do.

Greenwashing is a PR tactic used to make a company or product appear environmentally friendly, without meaningfully reducing its environmental impact.

EasyJet bus advert of blue sky with a plane shadow. Text reads "Destination: zero emmissions. We are championing a future of zero emission flights"

Performed through the use of environmental imagery, misleading labels, and hiding trade-offs, greenwashing is a play on the term “whitewashing,” which means using false information to intentionally hide wrongdoing, error, or an unpleasant situation in an attempt to make it seem less bad than it is.

Greenwashing is an attempt to capitalize on the growing demand for environmentally sound products, whether that means they are more natural, healthier, free of chemicals, recyclable, or less wasteful of natural resources.

More recently, some of the world’s biggest carbon emitters, such as conventional energy companies, have attempted to rebrand themselves as champions of the environment.

Products are greenwashed through a process of renaming, rebranding, or repackaging them. Greenwashed products might convey the idea that they’re more natural, wholesome, or free of chemicals than competing brands.

Of course, not all companies are involved in greenwashing. Some products are genuinely green.

How can it be curtailed.?

  • Packaging and advertising should explain the product’s green claims in plain language and readable type in close proximity to the claim.
  • An environmental marketing claim should specify whether it refers to the product, the packaging, or just a portion of the product or package.
  • A product’s marketing claim should not overstate, directly or by implication, an environmental attribute or benefit.
  • If a product claims a benefit compared with the competition, then the claim should be substantiated.
  • This can include use of terminology such as “eco-friendly” or “sustainable,” which are vague and not verifiable. Imagery of nature or wildlife can also connote environmental friendliness, even when the product is not green. Companies may also cherry-pick data from research to highlight green practices while obscuring others that are harmful. Such information can even come from biased research that the company funds or carries out itself.

Whether you are filling up at the pump, booking a flight or simply browsing supermarket shelves, you are being targeted by marketing campaigns trying to persuade you that everything is fine.

This is, in a nutshell, what greenwashing is and why it’s now everywhere.
