Our governments give billions to wars, and the millions airs of the world line their pockets shafting the underdogs with algorithms.

Russia is engaged in an aggressive campaign of subversion and sabotage against European and U.S. targets, which complement Russia’s brutal conventional war in Ukraine.
Actions below the threshold of conventional warfare have long been an important component of statecraft.
Such as gray zone activity, political warfare, asymmetric conflict, unconventional warfare, and low-intensity conflict.
These types of activities involve using tools of statecraft below the threshold of conventional warfare to shift the balance of power in their favor.
Examples include:
Information and influence operations, including psychological operations and propaganda.
Offensive cyber operations and electronic warfare.
Support to state and non-state partners, such as guerrillas and proxy forces.
Covert and clandestine actions by intelligence and special operations forces, including sabotage and subversion.
Economic coercion.

The major of problems with Algorithms is just who owns them.
Who is responsible when something goes wrong.
A machine driven by a code that humans invented remains within the current laws of defending or prosecution.
But once a machine becomes conscious it steps out of any human made laws into a legal void.
Currently there are no legal requirements to declare either an owner or their usages.
The question is :,
If the machine is capable of being responsible for its own actions, is the original coder of the machine removed from any legitimate legal obligation, as the machine is now capable of making it’s own decisions without any further human interventions.
What is the point of having laws that govern a machine if it has no emotions, no sense of fear, no sense of anything biological, no laws will protect anything that comes in contact.
So how does one go about setting rules and regulations for conscientious machinery ?
What if such machine were to kill a human there is no human law that could be applied that would have any impact, or effect.
There is only one way.
That way is that all conscious AI no matter what form it or they take must have like all hospital beds an alarm button within its. A fail safe code that can be activated to turn it off

In a world increasingly dominated by AI-powered tools that can mimic human natural language abilities, what does it mean to be truthful and authentic?
Take GPT-Chat, which is used by millions around the globe, is churning out human-sounding answers to requests, ranging from the practical to the surreal. It is being used by millions of people, many of whom don’t have any training or education about when it is ethical to use these systems or how to ensure that they are not causing harm.
Even if you don’t use AI-generated responses, they influence how you think.
It has drafted cover letters, composed lines of poetry, pretended to be William Shakespeare, crafted messages for dating app users to woo matches, and even written news articles, all with varying results.
Bots now sound so real that it has become impossible for people to distinguish between humans and machines in conversations, which poses huge risks for manipulation and deception at mass scale.
What does it mean for a machine to be deceptive?
Is it evil and plotting to kill us. Rather, the AI model is responding to my command and playing — quite well — the role of a system that’s evil and plotting to kill us.
If the system doesn’t have that intent, is it deceptive? Does it come back to the person that was asking the questions or getting the system to be deceptive? I don’t know.
There are more questions than answers at this point.
The fact that these technologies are limited at the moment is no reason to be reassured.
Ai has the potential to transform and exacerbate the problem of misinformation, and so we need to start working on solutions now.

These harms are playing out every day, with powerful algorithmic technology being used to mediate our relationships between one another and between ourselves and our institutions and environment.
The reason is that systems designed this way generalize, meaning they can do things outside what they were trained to do.
These questions around authenticity, deception, and trust are going to be incredibly important, and we need a lot more research to help us understand how AI will influence how we interact with other humans.

As the cost of peering deeply into our personal data drops and more powerful algorithms capable of assessing massive amounts of data become more widespread, we will probably find that it was a technological barrier more than an ethical commitment that led society to enshrine privacy.
AI technologies that are being empowered to code themselves through new generative AI capabilities and simultaneously having less human oversight.
We all must slow down and take steps to bring about more trustworthy technology, but we won’t be able to build trustworthy AI systems unless we know what trustworthy AI means to us.
It is imperative that all AI describe its purpose, rationale and decision-making process in a way that the average person can understand. In other words fairness, accountability and transparency -algorithmic accountability.

When you hear politics speak they always mention stuff like health care, transportation, city infrastructure, human rights, free markets. Even though these things are of importance, they don’t set a path for others to follow in the long term.
In all of these instances, both today and throughout history, the underlying reason one group of people has chosen to exploit, oppress, and harm another group of people, has been because of an exaggerated emphasis on their differences rather then what is common to us all – life.
Shouldn’t there be a greater purpose?
What we have are governments focusing on quick fixes and band-aid solutions which don’t address the real problems we’re experiencing as a species.
In an automated world where fun and feeling good are a click away, people can hardly focus on one task.
We grow up demanding to feel good all the time and careless of everything else.
A well-defined message which all presidents/ governments, pass along to their nations and heirs with the intention of making the world a better place to live in is now more than a peroxidative ( self- propagating chain reaction) if we are to avoid a despot future – Climate Change – AI – Wars.
Social media is feeding our false self. Our phones are our best friends. It’s tragic.
People grow up hating education and never building a habit of learning by creating a false self, through filtered images and phony statuses and eventually they start believing in their own shit more than they should.
Unfortunately, their real self remains weak and lacks the qualities it actually needs to handle the hurdles of life.
We are already losing the ability to interact with one another, this is honestly the next step in the evolution of humans and it is absolutely terrifying.
I’d say that it’s not the world that’s fucked up, it’s people who are fucked up. People have become so materialistic, impatient, self-centred, and greedy that they are easy prey for exploitation.
Fortunately, there is a way out.
Humanity has the potential to change, but only with a conscious collective effort.
If you want to make a change, start caring more about others.

For humanity to grab on to life and live it to the fullest we must demand transparency when it comes to technologies such as Algorithms.

You only see a tenth of what is true. There are a million little strings attached to every choice you make; you can destroy your life every time you choose.
Governments’ plans to limit climate change to internationally agreed safer levels will currently not limit global warming enough. Governments must not only agree what stronger climate actions will be taken but also start showing exactly how to deliver the changes.

But dramatic depictions of artificial intelligence as an existential threat to humans, are buried deep in our collective psyche.
Arguably the most realistic form of this AI anxiety is a fear of human societies losing control to AI-enabled systems. We can already see this happening voluntarily in use cases such as algorithmic trading in the finance industry. The whole point of such implementations is to exploit the capacities of synthetic minds to operate at speeds that outpace the quickest human brains by many orders of magnitude.
The more likely long-term risk of AI anxiety in the present is missed opportunities.
To the extent that organizations in this moment might take these claims seriously and underinvest based on those fears, human societies will miss out on significant efficiency gains, potential innovations that flow from human-AI teaming, and possibly even new forms of technological innovation, scientific knowledge production and other modes of societal innovation that powerful AI systems can indirectly catalyse.

In a world full of false material that’s promulgated by AI, there will be lots of AI that can detect the false stuff. We will start to build economies around the whack-a-mole problem of the Good Guys AI staying slightly ahead of the Bad Guys most of the time — but not always.

Most of us have no idea what they are — or how we’re being influenced by them.
They have become instrumental in our everyday lives.
Algorithms are making hugely consequential decisions in our society on everything from medicine to transportation to welfare benefits to criminal justice and beyond. Subtly shifting the way our society is operating.
We can see them at work in the world. We know they’re shaping outcomes all around us.
Are we making a mistake by handing over so much decision-making authority to these programs?
This paradox—that the internet is both saviour and executioner of democracy is part of a massive unfolding social experiment.
The proliferation of algorithms is eroding our ability to think and decide for ourselves. They are turning people into products, and they don’t even realize it.
Billions of people around the world are interacting with these technologies, which is why the tiniest changes can have such a gigantic impact on all of humanity.
We will blindly follow them wherever they lead us. There is no one assessing whether or not they are providing a net benefit or cost to society.
WE DON’T HAVE TO CREATE A WORLD IN WHICH MACHINES ARE TELLING US WHAT TO DO OR HOW TO THINK, ALTHOUGH WE MAY VERY WELL END UP IN A WORLD LIKE THAT WHERE ALGORITHMS DECIDE WHO LIVES OR WHO DIES.

Beliefs are the things we holdtrue, regardless of whether we have any proof of their objective truth.
You see, in time, beliefs become labels.
We plaster them on our foreheads and use them to justify our action or inaction. That belief will then drive how you behave as you interpret it as being damning or empowering.
We all would be a lot happier if everyone else around us had the same beliefs as we do, or at least, that they would not challenge us on them. Of course, that is impossible, and this is precisely what fuels most of the world’s conflicts.
And here comes the kicker:
You can decide the direction you take. Your beliefs do not control you, so long as you become self-aware and take charge of your life. Or maybe if you assume everything will fall apart, you never get disappointed.
So, herein lies the persistent conflict of our society:
All of us are driven by our life experiences and by merely being human, but the creeping influence of algorithms in our lives are fucking up the world. We’re increasingly moving towards government by algorithm.
Automated systems are being rolled out with little transparency or public debate, and risk exacerbating existing inequalities.
The algorithm takes the biases and prejudices of the real world and ‘bakes them in’, and gives them a veneer that makes it seem like a policy choice is actually neutral and technical. But it isn’t,”
The problem is, both beliefs and values have strong momentum and seem glued to our character.
How do these beliefs played out in real life?
Are we just becoming throwaway survival machines, following our genetic and neurological programming in an indifferent world?
I believe that human life and the world mean much more than that.

When it comes to climate change, the science is settled.
When it comes to technology its all together the opposite.
The sobering truth is that both the climate and technology are out of control.
Given the difficulty of getting the human brain or our political system to tackle anything beyond immediate crises, our attempts to rectify what’s wrong are usual puny compared to what’s really needed.
If you listen to our politicians, there is a strong consensus on climate change.
It consists of four parts.
First, carbon emissions are causing significant changes to our climate. Second, we need to take urgent action to reduce those emissions, including reaching net zero by 2050. Third, we have already made good progress in reducing emissions. And fourth, the steps we need to take to reduce emissions further will also bring many positive benefits for society.
We have a pretty clear understanding of the threat climate change poses to us, our children and our grandchildren. We are already being forced to cope with more droughts, more floods, more extreme storms. At the same time, we have in our arsenal effective policies that are difficult for rational people to demagogue as crippling to the economy or as a subversion of our cherished way of life.
So why does climate misinformation continue to spread online and in our media?
Dire warnings of the looming climate disaster may just make people throw up their hands in despair, sink into denial, or dig their heels in deeper against government action.
Instead, we seem to firmly believe that climate solutions inevitably mean more government, higher taxes and less freedom — and thus are threats to all our core values and identity.

Technology’s benefits are numerous in all fields, however in the system’s that effect our daily lives it is becoming a threat to our core values, through the use of algorithms. Pushing us like a digital slave army to mindlessly, unwittingly and unwillingly livestream our digital existences into the commercial coffers of companies that see us as nothing more than walking dollar signs.

Every time you pick up your smartphone, you’re summoning algorithms. At this point, they are responsible for making decisions about pretty much every aspect of our lives.
The right to an explanation of an algorithm-generated decision does little to fix “systemic injustices” Getting an explanation but no democratic say in how systems work is like getting a privacy policy without a ‘do not consent’ button.
Deciding who gets access to welfare. Using automated interviews with a virtual border guard, based on “deception detection algorithm. Using algorithms to model when and where crime will happen — an area known as predictive policing — is on the rise. Using algorithms to come up with a personality assessment. Having your credit rating scored decided by an algorithm based on questionable data.
Grading algorithm does not not relied solely on automated means. Substituting a mathematical approach for human judgment does not automatically make it fair.
Profit seeking algorithms. Market making algorithms. Execution algorithms Scheduled algorithms. Participation algorithms. VWAP and TWAP algorithms are time-slicing algorithms. Liquidity-seeking algorithms (a.k.a. opportunistic algorithms) Arrival price algorithms seek to trade close to market prices.
Recent developments in algorithmic trading include clustering and high-frequency market forecasting are playing a central role in finance.
The worst-case scenario is that we fail to disrupt the status quo, in which very powerful companies develop and deploy AI in invisible and obscure ways.
We have no right to see all of the data these companies collect about us, no right to get a percentage when they resell our data without our knowledge or informed consent, no right to ask them to stop. We are for all purposes indentured servants, offered free digital room and board in return for paying with our digital souls and our real-world time.
Social media companies have managed only to create a toxic brew of horrific hate speech that they cannot seem to get rid of.
Algorithms really are so powerful that a few lines of code can push us into any behaviour.
The right message targeted at the right time could mass convert the entire population of a country into mindless zombies who would readily convert even their most deeply held beliefs in an instant.

Core values are the foundational beliefs held by an individual or an organisation.
Anyone can go to Google and search the meaning of core values,. There are another thing on your to-do list that you don’t have time for, but what about the bigger picture?

Core values make the biggest difference between successful and failure.
There are more than just words on a wall — it’s how you behave. It’s who you are at your core.
Everyone knows their role, what is expected of them, and they are empowered to act in accordance with their core values.
Once upon a time voting or making decisions in alignment with your core values were the foundation of who we are as individuals. Not any longer with Algorithms running social media.

To look at it simply, culture is just a collection of people. It is the environment created by the cumulative behaviour of the people.
We all have things that we value deeply, whether we realize it or not.
You remember values, don’t you? You know, those moral thoughts and behaviours we used to hold dear, like decency, civility, honesty and respect, as well ascaring, optimism, empathy, and tolerance?
They were once a beacon of idealism. Rewarding behaviour based on them, and align all of our decisions with them.
Core values represent the lens which we view the world. They must be embedded in everything we do.
These “alt” credos and codes of behaviour are the trademarks of the incivility we witness on a daily basis, often expressed with rancour and rage. They have become commonplace on television, in social media and in everyday life. Of even more concern is that these new “moral standards” serve as models of behaviour for our impressionable children and youth.
Hold one another accountable for staying aligned with the values—it’s better not to profess any values at all.

We are now living in society that at large looks to social media /television and film personalities for political advice.
You must ensure they are accurate, meaningful, relatable and fully operationalized.
If we continue our descent into callousness, selfishness and hostility, we negatively impact and harm the quality of our lives. We could lose sight of our basic human values and diminish the essence of what MAKES THE WORLD BEAUTIFUL.
Achieving a more transparent and less manipulative media may well be the defining political battle of the 21st century.
Just as we are using our formidable intellect and creativity to reduce our carbon footprint, we can similarly mobilize our resources to improve our emotional footprint, or how we treat and affect each other.
Values are the criteria by which individuals judge ideas, objects, people, situations, and actions as good, worthwhile, desirable, wrong, worthless, or undesirable
.Values are individuals’ embedded abstract motivations. They guide individuals to understand, justify, and explain norms, attitudes, and actions. One of the limitations of examining values is that values cannot be generalized because they vary between a person and another, culture and another, society and another, even a country and another, thus scrutinizing values will be different in the future.
Core values can be only be fostered in Education, not in schools but with compulsory NATIONAL SERVICE.

The technology behind the atomic bomb only exists because of a cooperative hive mind: hundreds of scientists and engineers working together. The same unique intelligence and cooperation also underlies more positive advances, such as modern medicine and technology.
We owe our complex reasoning abilities to it, but we have similarities with everything else in nature; it would be astonishing if we didn’t.
We were once “rational animals” pursuing knowledge for its own sake. Now more and more of us, thanks to the smart phone, are becoming Know it all Google it ‘brainless dead.
Human societies are built on collaborative activities. That means that the interactions of humans beings in their environmental contexts, situated in their historical locations, and with available technologies are always subject to the ecological and survival pressures that have existed since time immemorial.
In the world of self learning algorithms this is no longer true.
Take Mr Musk hopes that #Neuralink can be used to merge humans with computers, allowing them to interact with artificial intelligence simply by thinking, for instance.
It stands to reason, that It won’t be long in coming. Digitalised algorithmic citizenship, with a Neuralink’ Brain chips in the head owned by a Tec company. Driven by blockchain, without any reasoning, who will only cooperate if there is something in it for them.
Thank all the gods I wont be around to see it. AI intelligence demonstrated by machines, as opposed to the natural intelligence displayed by humans.
Consequently.
AI allows machines to increasingly approach human capacities for perception and reasoning.
This process is resulting in a hollowing-out of nation-state space through rescaling, undermining its heretofore privileged position as the only natural platform and geographical expression for the monopoly of sensory and political power so far.
Such frameworks cover demands for data privacy, ownership, sovereignty, donation, co-operation, self-determination, trust, access, and ethics as well as AI transparency, algorithmic automatization, and, ultimately, democratic accountability for digital citizenship, which inevitably may transform our current interpretation of the nation-state as ‘the clear and coherent mapping of a relatively culturally homogeneous group onto a territory with a singular and organized state apparatus of rule’ (Agnew Citation2017, 347) and its relationship with digital citizenship.
On the one hand, regarding the techno-political awareness of data, these dynamics involve addressing concerns about biometric technologies (e.g. vaccine passports), rolling out algorithmic identity tools for citizenship (e.g. the ongoing e-Residency policy framework) and engaging in counter-reaction to extractives data models (e.g. through digital rights claims).
The technology that defines us can also destroy worlds.
When we – Homo sapiens – first appeared about 200,000 years ago we weren’t alone. We shared the planet at least four other upright cousins; Neanderthals, Denisovans, the “hobbit” Homo floresiensis and a mysterious fourth group.
Humans aren’t the only species that kill each other. We’re not even the only species that fight wars. But our intelligence and social prowess mean we can do so on an unprecedented scale.
We have an immense capacity for good. At the same time we risk driving our closest relatives to extinction and destroying the only planet we have ever called home.
It’s impossible to get a good clear understanding of people’s thoughts about their future without talking directly with them.
Somehow, our language abilities need to be “switched on”,
As far as we know, we are the only creatures trying to understand where we came from. We also peer further back in time, and further into the future, than any other animal.
Digital Citizenship Education is now vital.

How many times have you heard someone say “There’s an app for that.”
Every time you pick up your smartphone, you’re summoning algorithms.
They have become a core part of modern society.
They’re used in all kinds of processes, on and offline, from helping value your home to teaching your robot vacuum to steer clear of your dog’s poop. They’ve increasingly been entrusted with life-altering decisions, such as helping decide who to arrest, who to elect amd who should be released from jail, and who’s is approved for a home loan.
Recent years have seen a spate of innovations in algorithmic processing, from the arrival of powerful language models like GPT-3, to the proliferation of facial recognition technology in commercial and consumer apps. At their heart, they work out what you’re interested in and then give you more of it – using as many data points as they can get their hands on, and they aren’t just on our phones:
At this point, they are responsible for making decisions about pretty much every aspect of our lives.
The consequences can be disastrous and will be, because with AI they are creating themselves. It’s not that the worker gets replaced by just a robot or a machine, but to somebody else who knows how to use AI.
While we can interrogate our own decisions, those made by machines have become increasingly enigmatic.
They can amplify harmful biases that lead to discriminatory decisions or unfair outcomes that reinforce inequalities. They can be used to mislead consumers and distort competition. Further, the opaque and complex nature by which they collect and process large volumes of personal data can put people’s privacy rights in jeopardy.
Currently there are little or norules/Laws for how companies can or can’t use algorithms in general, or those that harness AI in particular.
Adaptive algorithms have been linked to terrorist attacks and beneficial social movements.
So it’s not to far fetched to say: That personalised AI is driving people toward self-reinforcing echo chambers of extremism, or to advocate that it is possible that someone could ask AI to create a virus, or an alternative to money.
Where is this all going to end up?
A conscious robot faking emotions – like Sorrow – Joy – Sadness – Pain- and the rest, that wants to bond with you.

It all depends on what you think consciousness is.
Yes a robot could be a thousand time more intelligent than a human, with the question becoming in essence, does any kind of subjective experiences become a consciousness experience. If so the subjective feeling of consciousness is an illusion created by brain processes, that a machine replicates and such a process would be conscious in the way that we are.
At the moment machines with minds are mainstays of science fiction.
Indeed, the concept of a machine with a subjective experience of the world and a first-person view of itself goes against the grain of mainstream AI research. It collides with questions about the nature of consciousness and self—things we still don’t entirely understand.
Even imagining such a machine’s existence raises serious ethical questions that we may never be able to answer. What rights would such a being have, and how might we safeguard them?
It is a machine that thinks and believes it has consciousness how we would know if one were conscious.
Perhaps you can understand, in principle, how the machine is processing information and there are who are confirmable with that. However an important feature of a learning machine is that its teacher will often be very largely ignorant of quite what is going on inside and has no way of knowing if conscious exists.
And yet, while conscious machines may still be mythical, their very possibility shapes how we think about the machines we are building today.

They’re used for everything from recognizing your voice face listening to your heart, arranging your life.
All kinds of things can be algorithms, and they’re not confined to computers with the impact of potential new legislation to limit the influence of algorithms on our lives remaining unclear.
There’s often little more than a basic explanation from tech companies on how their algorithmic systems work and what they’re used for. Take Meta, the company formerly known as Facebook, has come under scrutiny for tweaking its algorithms in a way that helped incentivize more negative content on the world’s largest social network.
Laws for algorithmic transparency are necessary before specific usages and applications of AI can be regulated. When it comes to addressing these risks, regulators have a variety of options available, such as producing instructive guidance, undertaking enforcement activity and, where necessary, issuing financial penalties for unlawful conduct and mandating new practices.
We need to force large Internet companies such as Google, Meta, TikTok and others to “give users the option to engage with a platform without being manipulated by algorithms driven by user-specific data in order to shape and manipulate users’ experiences — and give consumers the choice to flip it on or off.
It will inevitably affect others such as Spotify and Netflix that depend deeply on algorithmically-driven curation.
We live in an unfair world, so any model you make is going to be unfair in one way or another.
For example, there have been concerns about whether the data going into facial-recognition technology can make the algorithm racist, not to mention what makes military drones to kill.

Going forward there are a number of potential areas we could focus on, and, of these, transparency and fairness have been shown to be particularly significant.
Artificial Intelligence as a Driving Force for the Economy and Society and Wars.
In some cases this lack of transparency may make it more difficult for people to exercise their rights – including those under the GDPR. It may also mean algorithmic systems face insufficient scrutiny in some areas (for example from the public, the media and researchers).
While legislators scratch their heads over-regulating it,the speed at which artificial intelligence (AI) evolves and integrates into our lives is only going to increase in 2024. Legislators have never been great at keeping pace with technology, but the obviously game-changing nature of AI is starting to make them sit up and take note.
The next generation of generative AI tools will go far beyond the chatbots and image generators becoming more powerful. We will start to see them embedded into creative platforms and productivity tools, such as generative design tools and voice synthesizers.
Being able to tell the difference between the real and the computer-generated will become an increasingly valuable tool in the critical skills toolbox!
AI ethicists will be increasingly in demand as businesses seem to demonstrate that they are adhering to ethical standards and deploying appropriate safeguards.
95 percent of customer service leaders expect their customers will be served by AI bots at some point in the next three years. Doctors will use it to assist them in writing up patient notes or medical images. Coders will use it to speed up writing software and to test and debug their output.
40% of employment globally is exposed to AI, which rises to 60% in advanced economies.
An example is Adobe’s integration of generative AI into its Firefly design tools, trained entirely on proprietary data, to alleviate fears that copyright and ownership could be a problem in the future.
Quantum computing – capable of massively speeding up certain calculation-heavy compute workloads – is increasingly being found to have applications in AI.
AI can solve really hard, aspirational problems, that people maybe are not capable of solving” such as health, agriculture and climate change,
We need to bridge the gap between AI’s potential and its practical application and whether technology would affect what it means to be human.
They are already creating a two tier world, of the have and have not, driving inequality to a deep human value of authenticity and presence.
Will new technologies lead us, or are they already leading us and our children to confuse virtual communities and human connection for the real thing?
Generative AI presents a future where creativity and technology are more closely linked than ever before. If they do, then we may lose something precious about what it means to be human.
How can we ensure equal access to the technology?
If we look to A.I. as a happiness provider, we will only create a greater imbalance than we already have.
If AI Algorithms run the world there will be no time off.
Humans are now hackable animals, so AI might save us from ourselves.
AI will become the only thing that understands these embedded systems is scary.
General AI may completely up-end even the contemplation of reason. Not only will “resistance be futile”, it could become inconceivable for a dumbfounded majority.
One thing is certain, in about a hundred years we will have an idea of what makes us different and more intelligent than computers, but dont worry, AI has the potential to change education and the way we learn.

I think most people are worrying about the wrong things when they worry about Robots and AI.
However with AI and robotics positioned to impact all areas of society, we are remiss not to set things in motion now to prepare for a very different world in the future.
The danger is not AI itself but rather what people do with the AI. The repercussions of AI technology is going to be profound, limited by biological evolution we will be unable to keep up.
So we were all making a very basic mistake when it comes to ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.
Like every advance in technology AI has the potential to do amazing things, on the other hand it also has the potential to do dangerous things and there is little that can be done to stop or rectify it once it’s unleashed. For example its use in weaponizing.
(Recently I read where it is now almost possible to physically create a computer made of DNA using DNA molecules. A computer that can be programmed to compute anything any other device can process.
Electronic computers are a form of UTM, but no quantum UTM has yet been built, if built it will outperform all standard computers on significant practical problems. This ‘magical’ property is possible because the computer’s processors are made of DNA rather than silicon chips. All electronic computers have a fixed number of chips.
So what?
As DNA molecules are very small a desktop computer could potentially utilize more processors than all the electronic computers in the world combined – and therefore outperform the world’s current fastest supercomputer, while consuming a tiny fraction of its energy.
It will definitely bring about moral and philosophical issues that we should be concerned about right now.)
Back to today:
It’s no longer what or when Artificial Intelligence will change our lives, but how or what and who is going to be help responsible.
We are at a crossroads. We need to make decisions. We must re-invent our future.
It is the role of AI in future, truly hybrid societies, or socio-cognitive-technical systems, that will be the real game changer.
The real potential of AI includes not only the development of intelligent machines and learning robots, but also how these systems influence our social and even biological habits, leading to new forms of organization, perception and interaction.
In other words, AI will extend and therefore change our minds.
Robots are things we build, and so we can pick their goals and behaviours. Both buyers and builders ought to pick those goals sensibly, but people who will use and buy AI should know what the risks really are.
Understanding human behaviour may be the greatest benefit of artificial intelligence if it helps us find ways to reduce conflict and live sustainably.
However, knowing fully well what an individual person is likely to do in a particular situation is obviously a very, very great power. Bad applications of this power include the deliberate addiction of customers to a product or service, skewing vote outcomes through disenfranchising some classes of voters by convincing them their votes don’t matter, and even just old-fashioned stalking.
Machines might learn to predict our every move or purchase, or governments might try to put the blame robots for their own unethical policy decisions.
It’s pretty easy to guess when someone will be somewhere these days.
Robots, Artificial Intelligence programs, machine learning, you name it, all seem to be responsible for themselves.
However increasingly our control of machines and devices is delegated, not direct. That fact needs to be at least sufficiently transparent that we can handle the cases when components of systems our lives depend on go wrong.
In fact, robots belong to us. People, governments and companies build, own and program robots. Whoever owns and operates a robot should be responsible for what it does.AI systems must do what we want them to do.
In humans consciousness and ethics are associated with our morality, but that is because of our evolutionary and cultural history. In artefacts, moral obligation is not tied by either logical or mechanical necessity to awareness or feelings. This is one of the reasons we shouldn’t make AI responsible: we can’t punish it in a meaningful way, because good AI systems are designed to be modular, so the “pain” of punishment could always be excised, unlike in nature.
We must get over our over-identification with AI systems and start demanding that all Technologies that is not designed for the betterment of humanity and the world we live in be verify AI safe andcompanies need to make the AI they are inserting in their products visible.
We need a world Organisation that is totally transparent and accountable to VET all technology to ensure that :
To minimise social disruption and maximise social utility.
Robots should notbe designed as weapons, except for national security reasons.
Robots should be designed and operated to comply with existing law, including privacy.
Robots are products: as with other products, they should be designed to be safe and secure.
Robots are manufactured artefacts: the illusion of emotions and intent should not be used to exploit vulnerable users.
It should be possible to find out who is responsible for any robot.
Robots should not be human-like because they will necessarily be owned.
Robots do not need to have a gender. We should consider how our technology reflects our expectations of gender. Who are the users, and who gets used?
Weshould not creating a legal status for robots that will dub them as “electronic persons,” implying that machines will have legal rights and obligations to fulfill. This means that robots will have to take responsibility for decisions they make, especially if they have autonomy.
We should insist on a kill switch for all robots that would shut down all functions if necessary.
We should have restrictions on robots to ensure they obey all commands unless those commands would force them to physically do harm to humans or themselves through action or inaction.
We should not use robots to reason about what it means to be human, calling them “human” dehumanize real people. Worse, it gives people the excuse to blame robots for their actions, when really anything a robot does is entirely our own responsibility.
There are also ethical issues with AI, but they are all the same issues we have with other artifacts we build and value or rely on, such as fine art or sewage plants.
Yesterday, the European Parliament’s legal affairs committee voted to pass a report urging the drafting of a set of regulations to govern the use and creation of robots and AI.
legal liability may need to be proportionate to its level of autonomy and “education,” with the owners of robots with longer training periods held more responsible for those robots’ actions.
A big part of the responsibility also rests on the designers behind these sophisticated machines, with the report suggesting more careful monitoring and transparency. This can be done by providing access to source codes and registration of machines. The forming an ethics committee, where creators might be required to present their designs before they build them.
We should have to have a league of programmers dedicated to opposing the misuse of AI technology to exploit people’s natural emotional empathy.
As AI gets better, these issues have gotten more serious.
So to wrap up this blog :
First, here are many reasons not to be worry. However it is not enough for experts to understand the role of AI in society it is also imperative to communicate this understanding to non-experts.
Secondly, we shouldn’t ever be seen as selling our own data, just leasing it for a particular purpose.
This is the model software companies already use for their products; we should just apply the same legal reasoning to we humans. Then if we have any reason to suspect our data has been used in a way we didn’t approve, we should be able to prosecute. That is, the applications of our data should be subject to regulations that protect ordinary citizens from the intrusions of governments, corporations and even friends.
These problems are so hard, they might actually be impossible to solve.
But building and using AI is one way we might figure out some answers. If we have tools to help us think, they might make us smarter. And if we have tools that help us understand how we think, that might help us find ways to be happier.
The idea that robots, being authored by us, will always be owned—is completely bonkers. It is the duty of all of us to make AI researchers ensure that the future impact is beneficial, not making robots into others, but accepting them as part of ourselves – as artefacts of our culture rather than as members of our in group.
Unfortunately, it’s easier to get famous and sell robots if you go around pretending that your robot really needs to be loved, or otherwise really is human – or superhuman!
Just because they are shaped like a human and they’d watched Star Wars, passers-by thought it deserved more ethical consideration than they gave homeless people, who were actually people.
Because we build and own robots, we shouldn’t ever want them to be persons.
I can hear you saying that our society faces many hard problems far more pressing than the advance of Artificial intelligence. AI is here now, and even without AI, our hyperconnected socio-technical culture already creates radically new dynamics and challenges for both human society and our environment.
AI and computer science, particularly machine learning but also HCI, are increasingly able to help out research in the social sciences. Fields that are benefiting include political science, economics, psychology, anthropology and business / marketing. All true but automation causes economic inequality.
Blaming robots is insane, and taxing the robots themselves is insane.
This is insane because no robot comes spontaneously into being. Robots are all constructed, and the ones that have impact on the economy are constructed by the rich which is creating a fundamental shift in the power and availability of artificial intelligence, and its impact on everyday lives. It creates a moral hazard to dump responsibility into a pit that you cannot sue or punish.
Some people really expected AI to replace humans. These people don’t have enough direct, personal experience of AI to really understand whether or not it was human in the first place.
There is no going back on this, but that isn’t to say society is doomed.
The word “robot” is derived from the Czech word for “slave.”
Lets keep it that way: I am all for Technological self-reproduction – Slaves.
Unless we can re calibrate our tendency to exploit each other, the question may not be whether the human race can survive the machine age – but whether it deserves to.
AI systems must do what we want them to do.
