( A four-minute read)

We now live in a world where bite-sized chunks of mathematical data have become central to how we live our daily lives.

When programs pass into code and code passes into algorithms and then algorithms start to create new algorithms, it gets farther and farther from human agency.

The resulting software is being released into a code universe which no one can fully understand.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "PICTURES OF ALGORITHMS AT WORK"

The results so far are becoming more and more apparent, with the legality of these algorithms in the long term no longer fit for purpose given the size, complexity, and interdependence of the algorithm systems we increasingly rely on.

It won’t be long before they are writing themselves.

The present-day digital economy is affecting not just how we live but when and where we live. The era of digital transformation is everywhere and the next phase is just around the corner Privacy and cyber warfare.

Despite the wide-reaching impacts of AI, there is no mechanism or body that is charged with accessing its increasing impacts on day to day life.

Here I am not talking about whether it is ethical for Google to know where you are or where you are going but rather the lack of transparency on how this information is being used by governments etc.

IF INFORMATION IS TO BE SHARED WORLDWIDE IT HAS TO BE MADE DO SO BY ETHICAL LEGAL FRAMEWORKS.

THIS IS HAPPENING BUT ON A FRAGMENTED BASES.

WHAT WE ARE GOING TO END UP WITH IS AI REGULATIONS OF ONE COUNTRY CONFLICTING WITH THE OTHERS.

THE END RESULT WILL BE: AI TECHNOLOGIES FAILING TO OPERATE IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT with the likely outcome that we will see AI technologies misappropriated, and misused.

THIS IS NOT A JOKE:

BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF EDUCATION AND AWARENESS ON THE ETHICAL AND SOCIAL IMPLICATIONS OF AI WE ARE WITNESSING THE CREATION OF VAST INEQUALITY IN A WORLD PLAGUED BY DISASSOCIATION AND PERSONALIZED NEWS BUBBLES.

Furthermore since AI is seen to have a global impact regardless of the specific geographical location it is employed – from Wall Street to the current global wars to whether you get medical help or a loan, if we are not careful it will allow individuals and the current Facebook’s, Twitter, Amazon, Google, of this world to use AI to suppress, oppress and control.

THE DEVELOPMENT OF EXPONENTIAL TECHNOLOGIES CAN NOT BE LEFT TO SELF DEVELOPMENT.

NON OF THESE TECHNOLOGIES HAS AT THEIR HEART A WORLD ASPIRATION FOR PEACE-BUILDING, HUMAN RIGHTS, OR SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of algorithms at work"

THEY ARE DRIVEN BY PROFIT FOR PROFIT SAKE.

ALL OWNERS OF ANY SOFTWARE THAT DRIVES ANY PROGRAMS OR ALGORITHMS ASSOCIATED TO PROFIT SHOULD BE OBLIGED BY LAW TO DEPOSIT A COPY OF THE SAID PROGRAM IN A WORLD DEPOSITORY WHERE IT IS VETTED AGAINST OUR COMMON VALUES.

UNLESS WE DEVELOP AI POLICIES AND REGULATIONS IN A COLLABORATIVE ENVIRONMENT AI IS UNLIKELY TO FOSTER A SUSTAINABLE WORLD AND WILL INSTEAD REINFORCE NORMS OF COMPETITION.

( A six-minute read)

Are we all stupid?

This is the door which Artificial intelligence is walking through –  human stupidity, not ignorance.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of ignorance"

Why?

Because stupidity is not wanting to acquire knowledge but to Google it.

Intelligence may well be primarily biological property. Wisdom, however, is knowing and recognizing the limitations of one’s knowledge which is disappearing into the Google cloud.

IT TAKES CONSIDERABLE KNOWLEDGE JUST TO REALIZE THE EXTENT OF YOUR OWN IGNORANCE.

So it’s reasonable to say that most of us are grossly ignorant about the world in which we live but why are we in such a rush to sacrifice our humanistic qualities such as navigation, long-term planning, working out the solutions, finding a partner, protecting our privacy.

Perhaps it, because we are all so naive, about our ignorance that we are allowing algorithms to feed on this new uninformed and unaware stupidity.

MASS STUPIDITY HAS UNDERMINED DEMOCRACY SINCE ITS INCEPTION WITH THE MISGUIDED MEANDERING AND THE TYRANNY OF THE MAJORITY.

This is not going to change soon however if democracy is to survive the electorate need to be informed to make evidence-based decisions. Not by Facebook, Twitter, and Social Media that are creating mass delusion overwhelming good sense.

Deliberation requires intelligence and knowledge.

IF YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND A TOPIC THEN YOU SHOULD NOT VOTE ON IT AS IT MORE THAN LIKELY THAT YOU HAVE LITTLE COMPREHENSION OF THE CONSEQUENCES, AS THERE IS NO TRUE MEANING IN WHATEVER COURSE OF ACTION YOU CHOOSE TO TAKE – TAKE BREXIT FOR EXAMPLE.

The electorate is now voting on sound bits, on one line twits, on the sensationalist of false news, and anecdotal evidence.

The result is post-truth direct politics driven by a media that is more interested in promoting trash as it sells.

The arguments are that free requires knowledge but the mere fact of having a choice is not a basis on which to judge the influence of Algorithms run by platforms that have no culture base, and are void of any knowledge of the consequences.

WE NOW IN A CATCH-22 SITUATION.

THE ELECTED GOVERNMENTS IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN DEMOCRACY MUST KEEP PEOPLE VOTING.

CAMPAIGNS ARE SHALLOW AND DUMPED-DOWN FOR THE MASSES SO THAT THE ISSUES ACTUALLY BEING VOTE FOR ARE IRRELEVANT TO WHAT THE POLITICIANS WANT TO DO.  ONLY A SHALLOW, ALMOST FAKE, DEMOCRACY IS UPHELD.

RESULTING IN A FORM OF POPULISM GOVERNED BY SMARTPHONE/SOCIAL MEDIA ALGORITHMS.

ALL CREATING A FORM OF POLLUTION OR MALIGNANT INFECTION OF THE HUMAN MIND. SUPPORTED BY MULTINATIONAL PLATFORMS PENETRATED BY PROFIT AND FALSE NEWS.

Elizabeth Warren D -Mass is endeavoring to introduce legislation in the USA to make the largest the USA accountable to employees and their local communities, not just shareholders. THE ACCOUNTABLE CAPITALISM ACT.

She rightly says, that in the twenty-century companies started operating in a way that made them slaves to shareholders.

Between 2007 and 2016, large companies dedicated 93% OF THEIR EARNINGS TO SHAREHOLDERS.

IF WE WANT TO SAVE DEMOCRACY WE SHOULD ALSO DO THE SAME ON THIS SIDE OF THE POND, ALONG WITH AN ACCOUNTABLE PLATFORM ACT. THAT LEGALLY REQUIRES GOOGLE, FACEBOOK, TWITTER, WHATS IT AND ANY OTHER PLATFORM TO VET ANY CONTENT PRIOR TO ALLOWING IT BE POSTED.

ALSO, IT WOULD NOT GO AMISS TO PASS A  GOVERNMENT MINISTERS ACCOUNTABLE ACT AND TO INTRODUCE STRATIFIED VOTING WHEN IT COMES TO GENERAL ELECTIONS.

It all shows how little we really know about what we imagine an ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENT WORLD WILL LOOK LIKE. NOSEDIVING INTO RASH POPULARISM.

IF WE DONT SOON START VOTING WITH DELIBERATION THE ENTIRE DEMOCRATIC PROJECT RUNS THE RISK OF FAILURE.

TO GOVERN WELL, LONG TERM STRATEGIES NEED TO BE ADOPTED BEYOND THE NEXT ELECTION THE NEXT GENERATION  – CLIMATE CHANGE,

THE BEADY EYE SAY’S: ARE WE SEEING THE BIRTH OF DIRECT DEMOCRACY.

( A Five-minute read)

A common complaint about representative democracy is that it creates a distant class of lawmakers who will often collude with vested interests, or become so detached from the lives of the general public, that they will make decisions that the public does not support. By contrast, in a Direct Democracy system, such corruption of decision-making is impossible if every citizen is an equally powerful participant in the process.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of direct democracy"

However, it does not make any sense to think that direct democracy is somehow ideologically predisposed in any particular direction.

Direct democracy is simply a median-reverting institution.

It pushes policy back toward the center of public opinion when legislatures move too far to the right or left or is it, in fact, an opportunity to organize a kind of socio-ecological revolution to break away from the western development model of politics.

We know that every political system man has invented is open to corruption.

It is obvious that modern western democracies are now confronted with a change in culture mainly due to the integration of migrants, globalization, terrorism, and artificial intelligence.

Direct Democracy is presented as a solution to these challenges mainly by Social Media with its partitions and manipulation of voters with false news and software bots that amplify specific conversations on Twitter and Facebook by posting videos, photos, and biased statements targeting particular hashtags and wordings.

Resulting in phony debates, nurtured by cliches and prejudices that are destabilizing the political systems we have had for hundreds of years.

At what cost?

One of the obvious cost is Brexit and the not so obvious Donald Trump.

It is simply impossible to have direct democracy as the common Googlefied smartphone citizen does not have a grasp of political understanding nor the cognitive capacities to achieve direct democracy.

However, this view cuts against democracy in general.

As it implies that politicians always know better than the average citizen.

This is far from the truth when one looks at the current state of the world that is crying for some common action.

Politicians don’t necessarily show expertise and interest and certainly don’t know all the issues and are not always well informed.

They depend on shortcuts and have to ask other politicians and experts.

This morning I received an email from John Taylo in response to my last post ( The Beady Eye ask’s: Does anyone really know what quantum chips will do.)

He sums up the situation by saying and I quote

” We have yet to invent a political system that will harness the knowledge of mankind. if AI can be used for the benefit of all to reduce poverty and increase living standers of all without wrecking the planet it will be ……. Only dreaming”

I replied  “What a dream”

Perhaps I should have said ” Where do dreams come from. Look around you. That is where dreams come from. The only planet we know. ”

While we are all preoccupied with artificial intelligence the development of quantum chips is progressing in relevant silence.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of quantum computers"

IF SUCH A CHIP ARRIVES COMPUTER WILL BE ABLE TO PERFORM MORE CALCULATIONS SIMULTANEOUSLY THAN THERE ARE ATOMS IN THE KNOW UNIVERSE.

Get your head around that if you can.

CHEMICAL REACTIONS AND THE PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS ARE DETERMINED BY THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN ATOMS AND MOLECULES. THE BUILDING BLOCKS OF THE UNIVERSE AND ALL THAT IS IN IT – GOVERNED BY QUANTUM PHENOMENA.

So a quantum computer will require a fundamentally different way of thinking what programming is and you can rest assured that present-day machine learning will crack the coding required for such a computer sooner than later.

The first useful quantum machine might be years away but the quantum qubits are on the way to replace the microchip.

Already buried in all the Artificial Intelligence hip Google recently announced Bristlecone a new quantum computing chip with 72 quantum bits, or qubits as they like to be called.

If this is genuinely true we are going to leap into a new era with a google computer able to outgun all existing computers.

What does this mean?

THERE WILL BE NO WAY OF REALLY KNOWING IF A QUANTUM COMPUTER PRODUCES CORRECT ANSWERS.

EVEN IF THE FINANCIAL COSTS OF DEVELOPING SUCH A COMPUTER ARE TREMENDOUS A QUANTUM COMPUTER WILL BE MUCH MORE THAN ITS PROCESSOR CAPABILITIES.

THE TRANSFORMATIVE EFFECTS ON SOCIETY WILL BE UNIMAGINABLE.

IT WILL ARM GOOGLE WITH POWER OVER HOW OUR WORLD WORKS.

SUCH A POWER CANNOT BE LEFT IN THE HANDS OF A GLOBAL MONOPOLY CALLED GOOGLE.

WHY?

BECAUSE: WE ARE JUST WITNESSING THE APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE AND WHO IT IS SHAPING OUR PERSONALIZED WORLD OUR ABILITY TO EARN A LIVING OUR INCREASINGLY ENTAILMENT BETWEEN MACHINE DRIVEN INTELLIGENCE AND PEOPLE POWER AND ALL THE ETHICAL QUESTIONS SURROUNDING AI

BECAUSE: A WORLD THAT WAKES UP EVERY MORNING UNABLE TO IMAGINE WHAT CAN BE BETTER WILL BE A DULL PLACE.

BECAUSE: WE ARE SETTING OURSELVES UP TO BE OUTSHONE BY TECHNOLOGY.

BECAUSE: THE AI UNIVERSE IS ALREADY CHANNELING THE WAY OUR WORLD ORGANISATIONS OPERATE.

SO WHERE ARE WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

THERE ARE NO GATEKEEPERS TO IDENTIFY THE EXPECTED SIDE EFFECTS OR UNINTENDED USES OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE.

WE NEED TO START AGGRESSIVELY TARGETING THE DOWNSIDES OF NEW ALGORITHMS AND TECHNOLOGIES THAT ARE GOING TO PUSH HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS OUT OF THE JOB MARKET AND CREATE AN INEQUALITY GAP SO BIG IN THE WORLD THAT THEY WILL IF LEFT TO SEEKING PROFIT WILL PUSH US ALL OVER THE BRINK.

WE CANNOT ALLOW SO MUCH POWER TO REST WITH ANYONE AUTHORITY OR MONOPOLY LIKE GOOGLE.

THE ONUS ON PROGRAMMERS IS TO BE TRANSPARENT. TO SHOW THE FULL PICTURE.

WE MUST ESTABLISH A TECHNOLOGICAL CLOUD BANK WHERE ALL PROGRAMMES ARE REQUIRED TO LODGE A COPY OF ANY PROGRAM WHETHER IT IS DEEMED BENEFICIAL OR NOT TO HUMANITY. ( See previous posts on the subject)

THE BEADY EYE ASKS: ARE WE EVER GOING TO STOP RAPEING OUR WORLD FOR PROFIT.

( Five Minute read)

We are just beginning to realize that our societies are founded on a very limited definition of power.

Google it and you will see where the real power is.

Data:

As software devours the world (we are all producing trillions of it) – to be exploited by Algorithms, that are aligning us all in one direction of living, without awareness or the ability to truly see the world around us.

There is no argument that Artificial Intelligence is the way forward but what is the point if we are not citizens anymore.

We’re consumers AND WILL REMAIN SO FOR THE FORESEEABLE FUTURE.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of technology in the future"

AI for profit is infiltrating every aspect of our lives and is going to expand the world inequality beyond wars.

If we want to change the direction of AI to serves us all we have to change the way corporations view us and the world.

And we all know that this is impossible.

There is no point in hoping that our governments are going to introduce regulations that are going to stick, as AI has passed the threshold of any transparency.

The warnings surrounding the AI revolutions are plenty.

The voiced by Elon Musk: ( Do you Trust this Computer) The not so late Prof Stephen Hawking warns us, Westworld: shows us.

Unfortunately, there is no money to be made ensuring that AI servers us rather than the owners of the algorithms. So we end up working on symptoms all the time, ignoring the causes till its too late.

This too late scenario is not an option with AI for profit that’s is now developing its own rules as to who gets what at what price, with little or no obligations for any of this technology to contribute to the core values of life.

AI might stabilize our environment, allow us to share more equally in the opportunities of life without damaging the planet, but this is pie in the sky.

The need for a balance needed for this technology which brings such benefits in terms of health, communication, education, safety, business, is now paramount.

In this, I am all right Jack world such an achievement would be surely something miraculous.

The reality is while we are all distracted, bombarded with false news no one has a crystal ball to see the future, but we do have the cultural history to know what happens when power is abused.

What will artificial intelligence do to us?

AI deals with ends: It establishes its own objects.  In essence, AI represents thoughtless.

AI makes its own decisions about who and where to target.

We are in danger of losing the essence of human cognition. U Tube is full of disinformation rhetoric, social media full of weird views.

With social media playing such a big part in our lives, could we be sacrificing our mental health and well-being as well as our time? In some ways, the AI explosion represents the latest challenge for transparency.

What does the evidence actually suggest?

Conclusive findings are limited.

People use social media to vent about everything from customer service to politics, but the downside to this is that our feeds often resemble an endless stream of stress.

It won’t be long before marketers will be buying data science products that autonomously construct audience segments and our world organizations such as Governments will not be able to cope.

At the moment most of AI is narrow, meaning it is specifically programmed to accomplish one task or two, however it is well on the way to developing what is called general AI that will assist us with practically everything we do.

It must be remembered that machines will not learn the same way as humans do. They will think in an abstract way whether they are managing multiple goals simultaneously or not.

An example is Face recognition.

Before all of this happens:

Surely we as the creators of AI should be passing laws that require all AI programs to be vetted against human values. That a copy of the original program should be held in a virtual cloud strongroom available to one and all. (See previous Posts)

Until we have a viable path forward.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of technology in the future"

There are now billions of people walking around with supercomputers in their pockets, and they are all connected to each other by the internet. Unless we use this power to replace Capitalism with a form of Direct democracy that really recognize that we are interconnected, that our well being is inextricable from that of our ecosystems, profit-seeking Algorithms and there like will continue to rape our Planet.

In Jason Silva latest video (below) he conveniently ignores in his presentation the power of the planet to move not just continents but all of us.

When he advocates that AI, Biology, and Nanotechnology will combine to make nature with technology one and the same to become the motherboard of technology he ignores nature.

Nature is the physical world collectively, plants, animals, landscapes, oceans, air, and all other features and forces that are not created by man.

It won’t be the coming together of AI,Biology, Nanotechnology, nor big data, or patterns, that is going to tax the human imagination, rather the rewards of climate change that is well on the way to changing the planet we all live on.

THE BEADY EYE SAY’S. EUREKA! ARE WE ALL FOOLS TO THINK THAT A PLATFORM IS HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ITS USERS.

( A six-minute read)

Facebook is simply a platform and will never be held responsible for its users.

We can’t blame tech makers for making their products so good we want to use them. We are in control. But are we?

Facebook like all other platforms has been distorted by the fortunes they have been able to earn through advertising.

Why?

Because the techniques these companies use are not always generic: they are algorithmically tailored to each person.

There can be no ethics when it comes to technological manipulation that can be sold to the highest bidder.

The problem is that there is nothing the companies can do to address the harm unless they abandon their current advertising models. Thay have little incentive to deviate from the mantra that their companies are making the world a better place.

But how can Google and Facebook or ANY PLATFORM for that matter be forced to abandon the business models that have transformed them into the most profitable companies on the planet?

Notification technology enables hundred unsolicited interruptions into millions of lives, accelerating the arms race for people’s attention. Facebook’s headquarters in Menlo Park, California. The company’s famous ‘likes’ feature has been described by its creator as ‘bright dings of pseudo-pleasure’.

When you consider that the total size of all global data hit 20 zettabytes in 2017.

This probably means nothing so picture this: If every 64 – gigabyte I Phone were a brick, we could build 80 Great walls of China with the I Phones needed to store all the above data.

It’s growing every second and completely out of any control.

All of our minds are being hijacked.

Our choices are not as free as we think they are. The technologies we use have turned into compulsions, if not full-fledged addictions.

Billions of people have little choice over whether they use these now ubiquitous technologies, and are largely unaware of the invisible ways in which a small number of people in Silicon Valley are shaping their lives.

We now have an internet-shaped around the demands of an advertising economy with technology platforms contributing toward so-called “continuous partial attention.

Manipulating people into habitual use of their products or platforms with rewards or short-term social affirmations, while harvested valuable data about the preferences of users that could be sold to advertisers.

So what if anything can be done.

It is very common, for humans to develop things with the best of intentions and for them to have unintended, negative consequences.

We’ve truly reached a new level of technological time wasting, with the young generation unable to communicate.

If we the adult world cannot wean ourselves free a good starting point would be if we are to exercise our freedom by banning,  iPhones, iPads, laptops and mobile phones from places of education.

They will become a real problem if you don’t, as they are ridiculous thing to be addicted to. It just something to use when you’re procrastinating or is it a procrastination-trap, a slate of tools destined to get you addicted.

We have to learn to deal more effectively with our emotions if we want to procrastinate less.

Such as varying the rewards people receive to create a craving, or exploiting negative emotions that can act as triggers. It makes them look like they have a life.

Social media and other addictive technologies have and are creating an attention economy, which is severely limiting people’s ability to focus, and is possibly lowering IQ.

One reason I think it is particularly important for us to talk about this now is that we may be the last generation that can remember life before the Internet.

Drawing a straight line between addiction to social media and political earthquakes like Brexit and the rise of Donald Trump, digital forces have completely upended the political system and, left unchecked, could even render democracy as we know it obsolete.

The mere presence of smartphones damages cognitive capacity – even when the device is turned off. Everyone is distracted, all of the time.

Feelings of boredom, loneliness, frustration, confusion, and indecisiveness often instigate a slight pain or irritation and prompt an almost instantaneous and often mindless action to quell the negative sensation by looking at your I Phone, I Pad

If the people who built these technologies are taking such radical steps to wean themselves free, can the rest of us reasonably be expected to

”Chrome extension, called DF YouTube, “which scrubs out a lot of those external triggers” an app called Pocket Points that “rewards you for staying off your phone when you need to focus”

Get a life and use one.

THE BEADY EYE SAY’S: IT IS TIME TO CREATE A WORLD TECHNOLOGICAL STRONG ROOM.

( A two-minute read)

Of course, some argue that we have better things to worry about. Climate Change, Wars, Sustainability etc, but Superhuman, might finally create a joke so funny that everyone on Earth dies laughing. Artificial Intelligence is becoming is becoming incredibly sophisticated and scientists aren't sure how

The fact is that there are a lot of unquestioned assumptions when it comes to AI, learning in ways far beyond that of humans.

We can’t really predict what might happen next because superintelligent A.I. may not just think faster than humans, but in ways that are completely different. It may have motivations — feelings, even — that we cannot fathom. It could rapidly solve the problems of aging, of human conflict, of space travel. We might see a dawning utopia.

There is one thing for sure it has been set in motion and now we are waiting for the results.

In the meantime, there is something unpleasant about A.I. and that is Humanity is already losing control of artificial intelligence which could have catastrophic consequences for civilization.

For example “Deep learning”, is a powerful tool for solving problems. It helps us tag our friends on Facebook, provides assistance on our smartphones using Siri, Cortana or Google.

Deep learning has helped computers get better at recognizing objects than a person.

The military is pouring millions into the technology so it can be used to steer ships, control drones and destroy targets.

And there’s hope it will be able to diagnose deadly diseases, make traders billionaires by reading the stock market and totally transform the world we live in.

Indeed whether you call it Deep learning, it could be the last invention that humanity will ever need to make.

If they can’t figure out how the algorithms (the formulas which keep computers performing the tasks we ask them to do) work, they won’t be able to predict when they fail.

The Question is are we going to rely on a Google AI ethics board or we agree on a World Technological Strong Room where all AI programs are stored and available to everyone.

It’s now or never.

The internet has loosened our collective grasp on the truth.

It is a fact of the internet that ( with a new social media user, every 15 seconds,) every click, every view and every sign-up is recorded somewhere.

So what exactly is Social Media:Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of social media"

Is it a term relating to gatherings of people that prefer to exist in groups?

Or

Is it the dustbin of idle world gossip.

Not on your Nelly> With billions of people glued to Facebook, Whats App, We Chat, Instagram, Twitter, Weibo and other popular services, social media has become an increasingly powerful cultural and political force, to the point that its effects are now beginning to alter the course of global events.

This is what it is to-day:

Social networks earned an estimated $8.3 billion from advertising in 2015.

  • A 2011 study by AOL/Nielsen showed that 27 million pieces of content were shared every day, and today 3.2 billion images are shared each day.
  • On WordPress alone, 91.8 million blog posts are published every month.
  • It’s estimated that video will account for 74% of all online traffic in 2017.
  • Google processes 100 billion searches a month.
  • 91.47% of all internet searches are carried out by Google.
  • 60% of Google’s searches come from mobile devices.
  • To carry out all these searches, Google’s data centre uses 0.01% of worldwide electricity, although it hopes to cut its energy use by 15% using AI.
  • By 2014, Google had indexed over 130,000,000,000,000 (130 trillion) web pages.

That’s your fill of social media statistics for now, with just a tiny fraction of the weird and wonderful stats and facts available out there.

It’s easy to get dragged into the drama and other negative aspects of social media.

Social media is built for polarisation and extremes.

The basic engagement mechanisms of popular social media sites like Facebook drive people to think and communicate in ever more extreme ways.

Social media is a collective term for all the websites and online services that are erasing national borders and distances.

Social networks are helping to fundamentally rewire human society.

They are used to spread information about dramatic events or to warn others about risky routes. When refugees reach a new country, they can also use social media to contact their fellow countrymen who are already there and find out about things like permits, authorities they can turn to or what things cost.

They have subsumed and gutted mainstream media.

They have undone traditional political advantages like fund-raising and access to advertising.

They are destabilizing and replacing old-line institutions and established ways of doing things, including political parties, transnational organizations and longstanding, unspoken social prohibitions against blatant expressions of racism and xenophobia.

They are helping to create surprisingly influential social organizations among once-marginalized groups. For Example : Brexiters in Britain to ISIS in the Middle East to the hacker collectives of Eastern Europe and Russia.

Each network in its own way is now wielding previously unthinkable power, resulting in unpredictable, sometimes destabilizing geopolitical spasms.

Through this new technology, people are now empowered to express their grievances and to follow people they see as echoing their grievances.

THE QUESTION IS:

IS SOCIAL MEDIA NOW THE JUDGE AND JURY AND THOSE THAT RUN ITS ALGORITHMS ARE NOW THE REAL WORLD POWER BROKERS.

If it wasn’t for social media, I don’t see TRUMP AS PRESIDENT OF THE US.

This has to be the scariest ACHIEVEMENT about Facebook/ Twitter.

Not that Facebook may be full of lies (a problem that could potentially be fixed), but that its scope gives it real power to change history in bold, unpredictable ways.

But that’s where we are.

It’s time to start recognizing that social networks actually are becoming the world-shattering forces that their boosters long promised they would be — and to be unnerved, rather than exhilarated, by the huge social changes they could uncork.

This should come as no surprise.

Facebook and Twitter have become the new TV, where businesses can’t control their messaging as they once were able to do with TV ads.

In a way, we are now living through a kind of bizarro version of the utopia that some in tech once envisioned would be unleashed by social media.

Online campaigns directed at GOVERNMENTS OR FOR THAT MATTER AGAINST BRANDS can be a lot more effective than writing. Pay-to-play strategy by letting posts run and gain organic traction before boosting them.

Efforts to fight this dismaying trend are obviously worth pursuing, but is it time to give our due to the new political activism – Social Media. The king of communication.

As it becomes increasingly commercialised there is a risk that people – particularly young people – will see social media content as being politically and commercially independent.

What it means to get caught in a Twitter storm. Facts tell, but stories sell.

In actual fact, the very opposite is true.

When you sign up for Facebook, you also accept a business model that can use information about what you do and how you feel, for example in marketing.

One terrifying example is how the terrorist group ISIS uses social media to recruit new supporters. Potential ISIS fighters can be invited to join private Facebook groups where they are put into contact with individuals who are active in Syria.

However if used in a responsible manner it s also a new tool for democracy.

More people can express their views and form opinions. There are also examples of individuals who have quickly succeeded in raising large sums of money for those in need.

The Impotence of Social Media is in its nucleus accumbens.

People tend to follow the behavior of the group.” If other people have liked a post, new viewers will be more likely to like it too. And that popularity can feed on itself, changing their behavior to try to get social approval, respond to headlines without any in-debt knowledge of what the headline refers to.

A single ‘like’ can make a social-media post more popular.

Many social media sites share more of the higher-ranked — or more popular — posts. As a result, “people are more likely to see what others have positively rated,”  what’s in those photos is socially acceptable.

Skip pictures with few likes.

Likes can have a subtle but significant effect on how teens interact with friends online.

The important take-home message here, is that Social media shapes how we perceive the world around us.

When people express themselves through social media, they communicate collectively.

Members of social media communities direct raw emotions into particular interests. These audiences show their interest and approval by liking, sharing and commenting. And those mechanisms drive future social media behavior all driven by algorithms that drive participation and attention-getting in social media, the addictive “gamification” aspects such as likes and shares, invariably favoured the odd and unusual.

What are the results?

How polarised and divided nations are becoming.

The smartphones and web applications were increasing people’s

passions while also driving them to polarising extremes.

Political figures around the world are more polarised.

Language is more crude.

Sharing is becoming competitive, pushing participants to one-up each other.

Where Facebook or Twitter (viewed on mobile devices) has become for many people the sole source of news. Article will have a MUCH higher chance of converting to a sale!

You’ve engaged them, you’ve educated them, you’ve entertained them with social networks. (Communities of people (or animals) that are interrelated owing to the way they relate to each other.)

In humans, this can involve sharing details of their life and interests on Twitter or Facebook, or perhaps belonging to the same sports team, religious group or school.

I rest my case.

The functions of social media have transformed into something we have never anticipated.

Social media has transformed into political tools, increased global awareness, and offered a quicker way to spread information.

People have the power to abuse social platforms like Facebook and Twitter to promote radical ideas. So what.

Once you gag people’s right to speak freely, you place a mental shackle on the subconscious mind.

If you want to influence others to act upon what you have to say, treat social media communications with the same degree of importance as those that are face-to-face.

Social media to a great extent is a reflection of life. Without education for the sake acquiring knowledge the mind looks for it else where.

( A four-minute New Year Read)

We live in a world that is being connected and disconnected at the same time.

Two related facts.

But don’t worry we now have Algorithms that both filter and recommend.

All our final decisions are made in a state of mind that is not going to last.

The reality is that there’s no way of knowing where our generation is going in terms of technology and our reliance on it.

The year 2018 will be the year in which human interaction decreases the more technology increases. While social media fosters an environment of connectedness and belonging in the digital world, it also forces a disconnect between people in the real world.

With false news and social media, words are on their last legs, with print for the high jump, we will have more arse holes 2018 twittering shaping the world.

Where two or three words gather together there is a great danger that thought might be present. However we once again don’t have to worry because we have the option to log off and unplug anytime we want, so it’s up to us to decide if we want to engage with the actual world or the virtual one.Search results for "pictures of computer algorithms"

Technology may well be is a societal advancement that has enabled our generation to do things previous generations never would have thought possible.

However:

The biggest problem we have is accepting each other’s differences.

“Technology makes us forget what we know about life.”

82 per cent of smart phone users said they rarely (if ever) powered off their phones last year, while less than 43 per cent of 13- to 18-year-olds saw any value in ever going unplugged.Search results for "pictures of detachment"

Why?

This is the Eternal Question to which there is no answer, and yet the only one that has to be asked.

Take a look around you.

Every day we becoming more and more desensitized. Save this Save that while saving the planet is being left to technology.

Rapid progress in machine learning has raised the prospect that algorithms will one day be able to do most or all of the mental tasks currently performed by humans.

But the real problem is how one might design a highly intelligent machine to pursue realistic human goals safely.

This is very poorly understood.

Even if advanced machine intelligence does not get ‘out of control’, it is likely to be very socially disruptive and it is more likely it could be used as a destabilizing weapon of war.

It seems that most of us are in a mental wasteland inhabited by those upon whom the portcullis ( A sudden blotting out of all normal thought) has fallen.

How did we get to a place where the content on our phones is more interesting than the world around us?

In today’s society, scrolling through Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram has taken precedence over the real events scrolling through our daily lives.

Being “connected” to machinery 24/7 is affecting our ability to connect with our lives and the people around us.

Mechanical devices bait us into a make-believe life, as we are slowly being pulled away from a sense of who we are and what really matters.

Modern life is making us lonelier.

It’s not the technology that’s the problem; it’s us for abusing it.

We’ve become more and more antisocial by relying on technology too heavily.

Maybe if we look up and away from the flashing images and colors on our most recent Safari search, we will actually enjoy the company of those around us. So instead of counting the number of likes, count the memories in your life, because at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.

For the foreseeable future, it won’t be possible to take people out of the decision-making process, but the year 2018 will with the power of Profit Seeking Algorithms push us further down the road of hypnotic trance.

Technology is a valuable tool when used correctly. However, the law has to catch up with privacy and safety issues, not mention profit seeking algorithms. Search results for "pictures of computer algorithms"

We’ve all heard about the power of algorithms—but Algorithms to Live is in my book to be avoided at all costs, if we are to value what is vital to us all.

They are creating a world of such inequality that the scariest thing is the immense possibilities of these unregulated Algorithms will turn us and all that is necessary for a sustainable life into commodities to be exploited.

What can be done:

Education, Education is the only solution.

By this I mean education not for the market place but for the foundation of knowledge. Not just a narrow streamlined pipeline of mundane thoughts which doesn’t let you think outside the box and do things on your own.

Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology, Ecology, to name a few.

Dramatic changes are inevitable, we need to accept the fact on ground level that our education models are broken and paralyzed.

Perhaps we might well need computer algorithms to select the best candidate?

There’s no magic formula, freedom and dignity will not be found on social media, nor computed by algorithms.

There are too many parts of today’s conversations that can not be translated through technology.

Tearing apart the nation states and the world with ALGORITHMS is a

Disaster waiting to happen. No Robot with a brain full of algorithms is

going to have the the ability of an artist to have human empathy and an

appreciation of history; while also having the savvy self-awareness to

understand that their work merely takes its place in a greater culture

at large. Such art brings comfort in our modern secular world: where

spirituality seems to live in a foreign universe of yesteryear.

You’re more than a number.

how the mythical and quotidian usually overlap to

the point where the two become indistinguishable.

So join a club and organizations to make real friends.

Happy New year.

THE BEADY EYE SAY’S: WE ARE NOW LOOKING AT A NEW REVOLUTION CALLED THE CLOUD.

( A fifteen minute read.)

We all know that most if not all of our planets

PROBLEMS are caused by our actions, and can only be

resolved by us changing these actions.

The scientific innovations and new technologies thus

generated seem limitless, as they unfold everywhere

and on all kinds of fronts. It is the wild west where

rules are made up as we go and hope for the best.

There is no central body GOVERNING the use of the

cloud.

In a constantly evolving world transformed by cloud, social and mobile technologies, we’ve become accustomed to the idea of storing our personal data in the cloud, whether it’s via Dropbox, the iCloud or even Facebook.

as confusing as it may be we are never far from a new

era of revolt.

But this really only tells half the story. So far cloud computing has, for the most part, been used to speed up and reduce the costs of existing processes.

However we’re moving into what is becoming known as the mobile/cloud era. Cloud computing is set to impact not only on the way we do business, but how we live or lives.

Our thinking is being shaped by several key areas:

Applications we’re seeing at the moment really are the tip of the iceberg and, as the technology matures further, who knows how we may be using the cloud in even a year from now.

Smart cities are growing ever closer to becoming the norm as organisations begin to realize that the cloud can do so much more than simply speed up or reduce the cost.

Eight years from now we are likely to see low-power processors crunching many workloads in the cloud, housed in highly automated data centres and supporting massively federated, scalable software architecture.

So far we know that the following things are likely to happen:

There will be larger clouds. Some of these clouds will link to others. Many services that businesses consume will sit on top of clouds. Software will be much, much larger.

As with any technology, a lot of the true problems could come in implementation. Who will be the police? Who will be the judge? Who will be the jury for penalties?

We don’t have a clue what the procedures, policies and infrastructure really are.

It is said that changing the world is a noble, innate, haunting idea that, when flirting with it, ends up becoming as beautiful as it is dangerous.

Experts estimate cloud apps will account for a whopping 90 percent of worldwide mobile data traffic by 2019.

Cloud computing brings with it a whole new set of applications that will sit on multiple tiers of cloud infrastructure.

All the cloud promises is that you will have to turn over your security interests to a third-party in the clouds, and secondly that you are going to turn over your ability to do ANY real work to some third-party software provider in the cloud and become totally dependent on an internet connection to even work on the most simple of application based tasks.

Cloud data centers will “become much like a breathing and living organism with different states.

They will be differentiated by their infrastructure capabilities into a whole new set of classes.

So where are we.

How are we going to operate them efficiently?

Will they have standards and full technical disclosure?

The answer to both questions is that it is highly unlikely will we see either.

What we will see is a pitched battle fight for dominance with us reduced to an “inside-out” perspective.

For instance, “The more the president [of the United States] scandalizes the world with Tweets, rather than embracing the future together with minimal barriers, we see the Western world retreating and starting to look inwards.

Technology has brought meaning to the lives of many technicians, but it is also destroying what it left of any world community spirit, with the smart phone embodying this state of affairs.

Technological advances in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence or augmented reality are upset the global economy. The ability to acquire new knowledge will be worth more than the knowledge already learned, with people becoming brand-proof, it will become very difficult to exist the devil’s boots that don’t creak.

Behold the Cloud.

Every revolution up to now has had a common thread with the resulting conflicts largely boiling down to pervasive economic inequality.Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of the cloud computer"

The Cloud revolution however is wireless dogma, not a guide for action, accepting connections and doling out information anywhere, anytime if you have the money to pay.

The Internet revolution of tomorrow with the cloud as it’s center of power, will be the content revolution ,that does not bode well for the state of the world to-day and that could be inviting the collapse of society as we know it.

We are heading for a unilateral and silent war, which I think its going to be horrendous.

The difficulty will not come from governments that will be held hostage to a communication that it does not control but from profit seeking AI that feeds off the cloud.

A whopping 90% of businesses already use at least one cloud computing service.

The main players, Amazon, Google Drive, Apple Cloud, Microsoft, with revenue estimated to be in trillions by 2020,  know this.

It’s now totally the way of the future.

The cloud it is not just a metaphor for the internet it is more than a motor, it is a fuel that is constantly renewed, tirelessly feeding self learning algorithms.

The crisis of technological capitalism opens the prospect of new revolutionary waves everywhere.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of revolution"

Many economists extol the fact that “It’s very good for the economy” but this is not true.  The world in which Beethoven grew up was in turmoil. It was a world of wars, revolutions and counter-revolutions – just like ours today.

This is not a war in the traditional sense of the term: it is and will be more and more a confrontation between belligerent technological armies; it is a war waged by the “civilized world”, firmly entrenched in its positions, against hundreds of millions of deprived civilians.

The divide between rich and poor started with the domesticate plant and animals, which lead to farming – based societies resulting in land ownership. It became easy to acquire wealth and to pass it down from generation to generation, till we arrived to-day with half of the world’s wealth owned by 1%.

We have never being able to decrease inequality peacefully and we never will be able to do so in the future with self learning profit seeking algorithms.

However we are now looking at a new revolution that will be governed by time in the cloud.

Why?

Because Revolutions are voluble, and the cloud is highly suited to exploiting  that volubility.

Because capitalism is and always will be set up for consumerism profit, to acquire wealth for the few not the many.

The frenetic pace of change has caused enormous social disruption as entire industries and employment have migrated to lower cost centers in Asia and other developing regions.

Throughout the course of human history, wealth, or the lack thereof, has driven social unrest.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of revolution"

And so while the incredible benefits of globalisation have lifted many from poverty, profit seeking AI are going to create alienation and isolation in those areas that have lost out.

All new inventions and technologies have one thing in common:

They derive their strength from digital and information technologies. All innovations are made possible and are enhanced by digital power. That power is in the Cloud.

Similarly, without computing power, no artificial intelligence and, without it, no sophisticated robots.

To live this transition means first to become aware of current and future changes, and to consider their impact at all levels of society as a whole.

However, the reasons to rise up are not lacking: economic precariousness, multiplication of political scandals, crisis of legitimacy of democratic institutions are all ringing warning bells.

Globalisation didn’t create multinational corporations but those that can take advantage of the changes have and will enriched themselves beyond imagination. While swathes of society will find themselves left behind, forced to compete for jobs at ever lower wages.

The free flow of money and the demolition of trade barriers fostered their growth and delivered them the political power to challenge the fundamental ideals of democracy.

The planet can deal with human demands on it at only 30 percent of what we take from-dump on it now (anyone who thinks that we can double our demands on the planet and people every 12-20 years in perpetuity or that technology will save us should be excluded from serious discussions, I think).

The world has limited resources and cannot go on consuming and squeezing people into every available space. That sense of powerlessness now threatens to overwhelm the positives of globalisation and free trade; such as cheaper consumer goods and higher global living standards.

Forcing nations into a tax rate race to the bottom.

And then there’s Donald Trump, who takes venality to an entirely new level. For all the good it has done, however, it has come at a significant cost, particularly in the developed world. Today, this translates into a crisis of political authority: we are not only frustrated by the incapacity of politicians to solve our problems, but we also question their legitimacy to act on our behalf since we discover, in certain situations, more capacities to act and find solutions than they do.

Tomorrow, this may result in an awareness that citizens can, in some cases, do without policies to make politics.

Résultat de recherche d'images pour "pictures of revolution"

There are two major threats to us all. Climate Change and The Cloud.

If we do not wake up and demand change we will all indeed be living with zero intelligence.
