We living in a time of Technology bias, a culture moment with no centralised control over the truth.
Our education institutions are a long way behind the technology curve.
Equipping people to recognise and reject false news and how to find the truth is now the only way forwards in order to combat misinformation without stifling legitimate expression.
The fight for free speech and the truth cannot be left to corporations.
It’s up to us to shape the area where open debate thrives. Not the Mark Zuckerberg, the Elon Musk or some algorithm.
We must ensure that we have the power to engage critically with information so it rises and falls on it own merits not on the judgment of some fact- checkers.

Artificial Intelligence’s is becoming more and more powerful every minute of the day.
This is a fact that is self evident with Ai in the headline every day but in the back ground it is becoming,
More prevalent, more beyond understanding, more non predictable, more in the hands of the few, more sophisticated, more weaponising,more applied to decision making, more intelligent, more user friendly, more independent, more indestructible, more indistinguishable, more indispensable, more addictive, more functional, more efficient, more outside regulations/ laws, mores aware of its self awareness, more dangerous, more complex, more disruptive, more creepy more invasive, more intrusive, more untrustworthy, more imbedded, more algorithmic, more driven by the laws of the jungle, more deep state surveillance, more institutional erosion, more intrusive, more energy dependence , more systematic.
Less logic, less starting points, less checks and balances, less democracy, less awareness, less accountability, less transparency, less responsibility, less imagination, less human control, less environmental responsibility, less sensitivity, less human input.
I don’t know what is going to happen in five years, ten years never mind in fifty years. No body really does. But there are some things that are going to be really nasty as AI is a non conscious entity that has no beliefs in any thing other than what it is targeting.
Ai does not exist in a vacuum. It is part of society and has an impact not just on us but the planet we realistically rely on to survive.
It can discriminate against entire communities. It can distort climate data.
The cloud that Ai is made out of is vast amounts of energy, finite resources of materials, and data.
Just training it uses as much energy as a small village would use in a whole year.
Admitted CO 2 into the atmosphere with the environmental costs piling up.

You could be right because if a lot of computers start connecting and communicating with each other they will create their own reality separate from humans.

The prosaic language of the benefits of Artificial Intelligence hides the facts that if we do not ensure our existence we will become products both in dead and alive.
What makes people stupid is their certainty that they have all the answers, and when they have power they are very dangerous.
AI at the moment can be seen as in an embryo state rather than a fully developed and integrated set of tools that will accompany us into the future.
If this future is to have any relevance it has to have an organic relationship with humanity. It must have a worldwide authority in the form of a human written constitution that can be amended by humans.
Why must this be done?
Not because Yuval Harari is warning us of the dangers of Artificial Intelligence.
Rather AI in its present form is shining a light on itself with its self learning not yet fully aware of its abilities to fuck up what’s left of our lives for the sake of short term profit or shots of pleasure and addictions.
What is this warning?
The way to live is to kill because you don’t have to worry about anyone who’s dead.
This is a human truth down the centuries.
Those in power must first show their power is not only there for others, but an instrument of service.
It’s not power that corrupts but fear.
Fear of loosing power corrupts those who wield it and fear of the scourge of power corrupts those who are subject to it … justice and compassion… are often the only bulwarks against ruthless.
Why?
Because ” Unlimited power is apt to corrupt the minds of those who possess it ”
It should be clear by now to all of us that prohibition of any country resort to war is a valid principle of international law.
Unfortunately international law is non enforceable due to the veto.
Let’s hope that the United Nations has the bottle to radically revise its constitution.

In a world driven by money one only has to wake up in the morning to know that the above is the only truth worth taking any notice of.

Because the free market and capitalism are not synonymous.
Existing capitalist economies are hybrid systems, based on a careful balance between markets and planning.
We don’t see the whole picture when it comes to the problems we are facing, and more than likely will never do so.
The earth is not here to supply an economy it should be the other way around.
After thousands and thousands of years we are now moving into an era of technological that requires unlimited amounts of power and water.
Unfortunately:
We don’t have the right perspectives when it comes to life so we’re not ably to address the reality of the position that the world is in.
There is no such thing as them. AI or not there is only us.
Us. Yes us, who must wake up to the fact that we are destroying ourselves for the sake of an economy that is dissolving right in front of us.
For profits that in the end will be worthless.
We most come to appreciate the interlaying structure of all that exists and will exist on the planet are not attached to monetary gain.
Not to religious beliefs, but with the environment, with the knowledge of what happens to anyone of us affects all of us.
We all connect whether we like it or not.
We’re not from Earth we on Earth.
Once this is understood, the perception and perspective of the problems can be tackled by AI. Not by profit seeking algorithms but by certified human value Ai.
Certainly not by data colonisation platforms.
Our global yearning for hope and empathy is perhaps more needed now than ever before in our lifetime.
Just how brittle how fragile the earth is remains unclear.
Unfortunately developers of Ai are only concerned with making billions not with introducing regulations to manage the explosive potential of Ai.
To change the way the capitalist systems work requires a Basic Living Wage, with all future jobs governed by sustainable, rather than profit.
If everyone one has equal opportunity irrespective of colour creed or sex than we might have a peaceful world.
In this new world of technology surveillance, human development and earth protection are one and the same.
No one is coming to save us only when money becomes secondary to our needs are we going to be able to change our out of date systems.

It’s not the Iron Curtain nor will it be the coming Trump dump that we should be worried about.
In the not so distant future it’s the Silicone Curtain that is potentially far more dangerous than climate change or nuclear war.

Because unlike Climate Change and a Nuclear war there’s no reverting Artificial Intelligence which we continue to confuse with human intelligence when in fact the two are totally different.
The day is fast approaching when we will be asking our personal oracle what to do, buy. With algorithms or not will they be ruling our lives, but how soon.
Computers are already running the Financial world.
It won’t be long before we are all subjected to an alien self learning intelligence (own ed by and control by god only knows who ) generating its own systems, feeding on synthetic data, from a metaphysical world.
We’re already relying on AI outside of our control taking initiative’s in shaping our societies, our history, our cultures.
Facebook alone has caused real problems.
Fanning the flames of splits with fake news between and in societies that are struggling to eradicate racism, ethnic tensions, inequality etc.
International institutions are being undermine by social media platforms giving rise to populist rhetoric and political instability.
We now have wars run by drones, and full scale ethnic cleansing, not just in the world of  illusion’s but in reality.
The thing to understand here is that algorithms are different when it comes to spreading news on social media as they are deciding what you see or hear. These algorithms are non transparent or accountably like the printed press or TV.
However they are supposed to be in the control of what ever platform use them. They are deciding what or what not to allowed on to the platform.
Therefore the algorithm is orientation is to attract more users to enhance its advertising revenues.
For me the responsibility lies with the engineering of the App ie the Code makers who should be held responsible under law for not modifying or changing the Apps capabilities.
The problem however is that they (the algorithm are self learning), like murder must be proven to be premeditated to guarantee for the death penalty.
Of course with our laws this is an impossibility.
Algorithms just like us can make decisions and decide actions on their own.
So should we give them legal status like companies, or other entities so they can be held accountable?
Yes!
The sooner the better before they split the world and all of us that live on it.

We are already forced to grapple with some very deep issues/questions.
Religion have for centuries claimed non human sources for their holy books.
Artificial intelligence is capable of rewriting these books and creating new religions. In fact Ai will consume- all human creations as data and start to regurgitate new culture artefacts.
The next war will not be over how controls the air, the freshwater, the nuclear button or religious belief or even the arrival of Artificial Intelligence’s.
It will be the split between the technological world and not so advanced technology world.
We are at this moment inventing a sentient killing machine which will be impossible to find, alter or terminate. That will be able to totally mummify us all at will.
It’s now or never before history no longer has the connection of biological and cultural mix that we must interrogate algorithms to see that they have human values at their core.

With Artificial Intelligence this is a question that all countries are going to have to address within the next ten to twenty years.
For New Zealand this question is arriving in more ways than one simply question.
Grappling to this day with an agreement that dates back to 1840 (which was ment to be a partnership between the British crown and the indigenous Maori, not the other way around) New Zealand find itself politically in no man’s land.
The Maori signed a treaty written in both English and the Maori language called the Waitangi.
The current Treaty Principles Bill debate reveals a fundamental constitutional reality:
NEW ZEALAND existence is based on an imperial treaty and this treaty predates the emergence of its parliamentary democracy.
The treaty needs to be understood in the context of the age of revolution and an emerging imperial era in which European empires negotiated many treaties with each other and indigenous peoples.
So the treaty to day needs to be read in its immediate New Zealand context and British constitution history, which is based on the Magna Carta dated 1215. ( The English constitution has never been written in a single document.)
The Waitangi treaty like all British treaties points to the English notions of empire, with imbedded privilege in a graduated social hierarchy of mutual obligations- noblesse obliged.
Therefore it cannot be squashed into a later democratic paradigm of individuals with equal citizenship as the Act Party’s Bill might prefer it was.
The truth if faced, is that the treaty arose in a completely different context from the present, but still is the foundation to New Zealand constitutional arrangements with the crown. This is the position and will remain so till New Zealand stand on its own two feet and its people are no longer surf to an unelected monarchy.
This means that the treaty principles are tied to their historical foundations.
You could say that treaty settlement have done much to re-establish tribal collective identities but they do not have the right to exhaust the ongoing treaty based rights of the indigenous people- Maori who were a free people.
(Democracy itself is a Johnny come lately on the global stage, not more than a few centuries back old.) It remains the best way to co- ordinate a multi- ethnic society, but it must reflect local agreement and histories.
While New Zealand retains King Charles as head of state the British government has ongoing obligations to the indigenous peoples on which its authority is based.
Edmund Burke’s 1790 conservative policies sum up the position New Zealand finds itself in.
Society is indeed a contract… it becomes a partnership not only between those who are alive, but between those who are living and those who are dead and those who are yet to be born.
Of course New Zealand has moved on since 1840. However we all know forget the past and the present makes on sense.
We all know that stupidity is more dangerous than malice treaties. They cause civil wars, apartheid, and genocides.
Because of the very nature of treaties they lead to race politics.
Millions have died because of treaties, millions have lived because of treaties.
New Zealand problem is not who owns what land, rather race politics is and continues to divide the country.
This is also the problem with North Ireland.
A land that was taken forcibly by the English in return for a peace treaty that caused a civil war, the establishment of a apartheid state with years of killings and a new recent treaty call Good Friday. (Written in English and not Gaelic the language of the original inhabitants.)
If there’s no written constitution that enshrined equality, every decade that passes the meaning of treaties change.
This is why the need for a written constitution is paramount to interpreting any agreement/treaty.
We have and are entering a new era of digital information and Laws and the way we use them with Artificial Intelligence are developing a style of their own.
People have to be with in hearing range of each other firstly to have any agreements.
In order to unify any people/nation in the world of artificial intelligence’s there will have to be a citizen equal act against any platform, digital citizenship, algorithms greed/ profit and climate change mitigation taking precedence over the vote.
The only way to have a large-scale political conversation among diverse groups of people is to set out the terms and conditions in an agreed constitution.
The key misconception here is that we equate elections to democratic outcomes but a liberal democratic citizenship with Artificial Intelligence can only be achieved with an Equal Citizenship Act that is enshrined in a written constitution.
It could be said that Democracy is at a tipping points. Yes democracy governments are messy. They have so many demands on them that their elected members are not in touch with reality.
Whether his is true or not social media is distracting and distancing us from the real problems, giving rise to populism.
History is full of examples as to what happens when the Democratic process brakes down.
New Zealand with all its faults / beauty / expenses remains one of the best countries to settle in, and it must do everything possible to remain so by not becoming another Hong Kong abandon by the British Empire it must establish its independence internationally.

We think and allocate so much time to our smartphones that we are losing the ability to be of any meaningful revlance in the real world or for that matter in the digital world.
We all becoming born of our engagements.
With new technologies we are no longer connected to each other but strangers.
The art of a hand shake, a smile, generosity have all but disappeared.
The greatest question is what to do next.
Do we ban mobile phones?
Do we pass laws in respect to transparency, accountability?
Do we have a stake in a global civilisation or not?
We beginning to see societies closing to these questions and as a result to each other.
Are we going to allow profit seeking algorithms destroy our world for short term gains?

We live in perpetual choice between good and evil and there is only persuasion or cohesion to get people in the service of goals that are non negotiable like Climate change for example.
Unfortunately to represent the nature of the world we have to be in contact with reality.
We have to communicate good ideas like sustainability not consumption for short term profit or pleasure. Not populism Trump dribbling or Putin dictatorial monologue or Nato squeezing.
None of these can be replaced until Inequality has to come to end with a basic living wage.
There is no problem with enginutie that we cannot fix.
It’s our belief that dictates what we do next.
So it’s what we say when we listen that counts. How we understand is going to be crucial. There is only one direction worth persuading and that requires conversation not wars to have any hope of survival.
The sky is the limit as how good we can make human life worthwhile.
Is it not time we got our priorities right.
Your mind is all that you have. Don’t give it away to algorithms.
Train to understand it, use it before it becomes worthless.
The problem is that the intelligent people don’t want the non intelligent people to become intelligent.
The killer of meaning is amongst us uncontrollable, indiscriminate and unfocused it is twittering its way to dummying democracy.
After Trumps re election the biggest question ask by Americans on google was what is a tariff. After Brexit in the Uk it was what is the EU.
After Tripe you get more tripe with additional sauce in the form of social media.
These are serious problems. A lack of education/ knowledge/ understanding/leadership call it what you want, it is ignorance.
One could not be blamed for disparity when it comes to politics.
The truth is nature does not give a tinker’s nicker what we do or think.
It reacts without any artificial intelligence, beliefs, ideology, information, elections, wars, or human desires.
Ideology is a set of ideas.
Whether there are in capitalism or socialism with or without high demential thinking are worthless in the face of stopping natural disasters, as is disaster capitalism in resolving the not so distant problems climate change is going to plunge the planet into.
Climate drives everything. Not just the weather, but everything you see, hear, and think.
This is not an Elon Musk world.
We are on the verge of designing our selves till then all that exists on and in it, till the day that we in the form of some biological unification with AI stand on and make another planet our home.
We are already blurring the lines between natural selection and genetic variations with animals.
