With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.Afficher l'image d'origine

It is your world so as far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself to others, you may become vain or bitter: for there will always be greater and less persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.

Keep interested in your own career how ever humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is, many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.

Especially, do not freig affection.

Neither be cynical about love for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the council of the years gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spit to nature you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with imaginings.

Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,on doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with god, whatever you conceive him to be, and whatever your labours or aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

Travel with knowledge. Life is a cup to be filled, not a measure to be drained.

No one else can make you feel inferior. Only you yourself do that.

Beauty fades,dumb is forever.

Never assume anything; assumption is the mother of mistakes. The only constant is change.

It’s what you learn after you know it all that counts.

If you were to ask me what is the greatest thing in the world?

I will answer it is people, it is people, it is people.

THE BEADY EYE ASKS. DO YOU EVER WONDER WHY YOU WONDER?

He who knows it not and can no longer wonder no longer feel

amazement is a good as dead.

“If you worry about what might be, and wonder what might have been, you will ignore what is.” Unknown.

Awe can rock our world, making us reassess our beliefs and revise our theories of how things work.

What may sometimes appear to be devious or deceptive, is, in the end mysterious, and (almost?) magical.

Wonder is the accidental impetus behind our greatest achievements.

There in may lie the power of priests, doctors, politicians, psychoanalysts, and, (dare we say it?) teachers.

We are creatures of boundless curiosity.

For example: To think or speculate curiously; To be filled with admiration, amazement, astonishment, or awe; To doubt; something strange and surprising; producing puzzlement or curiosity; the reverse of what might be expected are disappearing down a Smart Phone or a Google Search.

These days everything is awesome.

We marvel at mundane everyday experiences and not objects that evoke mystery, doubt, and uncertainty.

For most city-dwellers, the night sky is merely a murky orange haze. We are becoming estranged from natural sources of awe with electronic media becoming the only source of awe.

Image of night sky

One can’t say when, in our evolutionary history, our ancestors first got blown away by something immense or amazing.

SENSE OF WONDER  n.

A feeling of awakening or awe triggered by an expansion of one’s awareness of what is possible or by confrontation with the vastness of space and time, as brought on by reading science fiction or standing on the top of Everest.

The sense of inspired awe that is aroused in a reader when the full implications of an event or action become realized, or when the immensity of a plot or idea first becomes known, or (Not that I have ever stood on the summit of Everest) the view of the Himalayan peaks.

What do we really desire from our future technologies?

We claim that just as in life, it should assist us in solving problems and improving our everyday efficiency. However, we could further argue that technology also must prompt us to think, be curious, and wonder.

If we fail or, worse yet, ignore this vital design space of wonderment for technology, we are almost certainly doomed to live amongst emotionless, servant-like, lifeless, problem solving, scientific systems.

We deserve more.

Feelings of wonderment are difficult to measure and nearly impossible to assign a value. Nonetheless, these episodes are part of our lives and as such deserve a place within the discussion of our future digital technologies.

We still need to understand how conviction and belief actually arise in a human being.

How far have I walked today? How many people have ever sat on that bench? Does that woman own a cat? Did a child or adult spit that gum onto the sidewalk? These are all feelings of what we call “wonderment” that color and enrich our lives.

Step back with me for a moment. What really matters?

Everyday life spans a wide range of emotions and experiences – from improving productivity and efficiency to promoting wonderment and daydreaming.

Our successful future technological tools, the one we really want to cohabited with, will be those that incorporate the full range of life experiences.

We are at an important technological inflection point.

The value of invisibility, but does not make it visible.

It is this important element of human mystery and curiosity that is underrepresented as a design practice for technological interactive systems.

Currently our mobile phones are doomed to live out only short product lifespan. As these fully functional objects fail to satisfy our technological fetishes and trends, they are replaced by I Pads, by Watches, by Glasses, by Virtual Reality.

Changing people’s sense of control can influence the kinds of scientific explanations they prefer: if you feel that you don’t have control, you’ll be more drawn to explanations that promise order and predictability.

People have become more individualistic, more self-focused, more materialistic and less connected to others.

To reverse this trend, I suggest that people insist on experiencing more everyday awe, to actively seek out what gives them goose bumps, be it in looking at trees, night skies, patterns of wind on water.

While as I have said it is difficult to place quantitative measurements on wonder in terms of enjoyment, benefit, or even improved quality of life, it is indeed a essential element of daily human life.

We need to understand two elements of belief:

Suggestibility and Surrender.

“These are not only elements of religious conviction, they are part and parcel of the experience of learning and teaching, of certainty and persuasion, as much as they are part of various social strategies to modulate and sooth doubt and anxiety, as well as strategies meant to shock and gain influence.” (Frank 1974, Galanter 1993).

Education comes in all different forms and many people believe if they can look up information on their phone, including current news, then they are learning and expanding their mind. So what’s the problem?

Although mobile apps and texting have made our lives easier, some question the impact they’ve having on the relationships we have with one another.  The use of texting and Facebook and Twitter and other sites as a form of communication is eroding people’s ability to write sentences that communicate real meaning and inhibit the art of dialogue of the impossible.

We will soon have a generation that has no clue how to read any of the cues of wonderment.

Wonders never cease!

Nine days’ wonder:  No wonder: Time works wonders: Gutless wonder: Wonder about: Wonder at: Wonders will never cease: A one-hit wonder: A chinless wonder: Little wonder: Wonder Drugs: Wonder boy.

The sky would have been the most pervasive natural influence of wonder now it’s the Mobil Phone. There ringtones have a private meaning but are a public experience. They are as expressive as the clothing we wear and an obvious extension of our public presentation of self.

Ringtone sales are a $4 billion market worldwide. Now ain’t that awesome.

Wonder is sometimes said to be a childish emotion, one that we grow out of.  But that is surely wrong. Wonder might be humanity’s most important emotion.

Wondrous things engage our senses.

Wonder is what leads us to try to understand our world.

Knowledge does not abolish wonder; indeed, scientific discoveries are often more wondrous than the mysteries they unravel.

Wonder, then, unites science and religion, two of the greatest human institutions.

Art, science and religion are all forms of excess; they transcend the practical ends of daily life.  Science, religion and art are unified in wonder.

Without wonder, it is hard to believe that we would engage in these distinctively human pursuits.

We needed to master our environment enough to exceed the basic necessities of survival before we could make use of wonder.

Afficher l'image d'origine

Art, science and religion are inventions for feeding the appetite that wonder excites in us. They also become sources of wonder in their own right, generating epicycles of boundless creativity and enduring inquiry.

Each of these institutions allows us to transcend our animality by transporting us to hidden worlds.

In harvesting the fruits of wonder, we came into our own as a species.

Personally I wonder who read this blog.

For those that do:

I leave with a wonder of all time but don’t spend too long contemplating the wonder.

Infinity.

It’s enough to drive anyone mad, as well as a good point at which to bring to an end this blog.

The Beady Eye looks at the benefits and non benefits of Social Media.

I would like to think you’re here not necessarily because your agree or disagree with what I write, but that you think it is worth hearing and want to learn, interact and debate with me. If you like pressing the like button this is not the place to find the like button.  Lets hear your views.Eyes Robot Cyborg wallpaper background

Social Media a vast and complex subject far to large to cover all aspects.

In this post I am going to try to address some of the more obscure effects it is having on all of us or could have in not the so distant future.

How much do we understand this new dictatorship we’re in?

IF YOU ASKED ME I WOULD SAY: WE DON’T HAVE A CLUE.

Technology has revolutionized the way people go about their daily activities..

Google received over 2 million search queries per minute. The Number of people who use Twitter 302 million monthly active users 28/04/2015. Apple in the last three months turned over 60 billion a 40% profit of 11billion.

Facebook its monthly active users cleared 1.35 billion — roughly equal the population of China, and 9 percent larger than that of India. By these numbers, nearly 20 percent of the world’s population logs into Facebook once a month. And if we just look at the worlds Internet users, roughly half of them — every other person with Internet on the planet — use the site actively. 936 million daily 22/04/2015.

Half of all Internet-users live in “Facebookistan”

In the time it takes you to read this sentence more than 684,478 pieces of content will be shared on Facebook, 100,000 people will tweet, hundreds of thousands more will “like” an Instagram photo…and that’s if you read very quickly.

Access to technology has become an integral part of education, socialisation and industry related requirements, and accordingly Internet usage is evolving and growing rapidly. It is changing the way we shop to the way we drop. It does not care about time or distance. Everyone can be online every time and communicate with everyone everywhere.

The internet is home to millions of sites, representing both commerce and the people who share their thoughts and experiences with anyone who visits. The internet users worldwide now represents 3.17 billion, or in other words half of the current world population.

The question is whether the effortless, ever-changing world of online social life is in fact one that ultimately undermines the ability to explore narrative, and place people, ideas and events in wider contexts.

There is no argument that it is effecting the way we all live but if we don‟t act to enhance inter generational communication, we risk generating a culture structured by a digital/communication divide between young people, their parents and older members of the community.

Cyber citizenship, if it is to retain relevance and deliver benefits to the community, therefore, is a concept that would more usefully be applied to the community as a whole, rather than as a set of policies that target young people as requiring protecting – or protection from – in a digital landscape.

Our understanding of cyber citizenship must be more holistic, to fully encompass and resonate across all of the settings in which we live our lives – be that home, school, work, our local communities or our communities of interest.

So what effect is Social Media actually having on the world communicates and our life styles.

For example:

The internet is the place to interact with new people and a way to expose yourself to strangers. The partial anonymity available online can be used as a mask for sexual offenders and psychos;

Social media is being used as a tool by movie studios well ahead of a film’s release to help shape the marketing campaign.

Billions of Amateur videos, posted on social media websites.

Americans across the country took to social media to celebrate the Supreme Court’s decision making same-sex marriage a right.

Its replacing communication by letter or phone.

Twitter and Facebook are only two of the online connections people use today to stay in contact with friends and family.

The entire purpose of setting up social media networks around the world is to allow and promote the world to communicate and connect with one another. However, the trend that seems to be following this widespread connection and communication is the exact opposite.

It all appears to boil down to you having no way of really knowing what is the truth and what is the lie.

Someone’s life and personality neatly tucked away in the cyber-universe.

Do the dangers of online networking far outweigh the benefits?

Who knows.

One of the great dangers as far as I am concerned is the establishment of an economic order that would apply to all, everywhere.

No social animal is ever guided by the interest of the entire species to which it belongs.

Social Media allows cooperation with complete strangers who are imagined to be your friends. This could lead to the entire human race becoming a single unit governed by a single set of laws. These days we think of the planet as a single unit but for most of its history it was in fact an entire galaxy of isolated human worlds.

The ever tightening social media links will in the long run destroy individuality.  We are now living in an age of technology where the information contained on these sites is now being used against us.

So the benefits of SNS use are dependent on good internet and media literacy: having the skills to critically understand, analyse and create media content while avoiding addiction.

Young people are consuming, producing, sharing and remixing media.

This has led to the claim that today‟s young people are produsers‟ they actively produce and consume media. The importance of SNS in young people‟s everyday lives is indisputable: 90% of 12 to 17 year olds, and 97% of 16 to 17 year olds, use SNS

Social media has begun to create an unsociable disconnected generation of young adults… they lack awareness of the public nature of the internet. This include the management of personal information and privacy, the risk of predation and cyber bullying.  Can it be minimised?

It is compromising the development and maintenance of supportive friendships and involvement in institutions traditionally understood as the embodiment of “communities‟, namely school, sports clubs, families etc.

Social networking sites have become an important additional arena for politics. It increasingly important for the expression of identity.

What can be done if anything.

Education MUST increased internet and media literacy – ensuring all young people develop the skills to critically understand, analyse and create media content.

With the lack of parental supervision between the ages of fourteen to seventeen, which makes one of largest demographics using social networking sites, these teens ARE subjected to mature elements..

Teenagers are finding their identity in the world, they are the “my space generation” (Livingstone, 2008) the internet has allowed them to connect with people from all over the world but do they choose to do that…

It is presenting mankind with the biggest opportunity to change the course of history.  It is exposing the Inequalities and making the world aware of our common vulnerabilities.

Then there is growing power of Petitions not to mention the job market or trial by Social Media and the greed of the business world which is beginning to be recognized for what it is by targeting Advertising.

As I said don’t press the like button be an individual and leave a comment.

Technological advances are altering the nature and the expectation of life.

All the festivities of Christmas and the New year are over.

It’s the start of another year and I am sure like me there are many of you afraid to ask ” Am I going to make it to the End of the Year.

The answer I hope is Yes.

We all know that new racial tensions are rising and finding expression in violence.

However the Deserts of Technology are just being created.

Some of us will lose our jobs, other will find new jobs but you can rest assured in this part of the world that technology will become more and more pervasive and that you are slap bang in the middle of incredible change, with unprecedented breaches in personal data leading this charge.

Now all of this has happened before and the nature of man has not changed nor will it change.

Why?

Because no matter what technology we invent Greed has an eye on it.

Because as before we are not ready for the changes to come.

Because we are unwilling to except that the smart machine era will be the most disruptive in the history of IT and most of us have no concept of the disruption it will be causing in Industry after Industry.

The cost of production is becoming less than the cost of human labor.

So my advice is to wake up if you have not already done so.

The advent of dump down intelligence ( The game Angry Birds was downloaded over a million times in the first 24 hours it was available on Android devices. Seven months later the game had been downloaded more than 200 million times.) is on us and soon it will be everywhere.  Your prosperity or happiness you can rest assured will be a long way down the list of things to be achieved in the Capitalistic World of 2015.

The concept of peace is easy to grasp; that of international security is more complex even if the revolution in communications has united the world in awareness, in aspiration and in greater solidarity against injustice.  We are all being turned into non sustainable commodities.

If you don’t believe me answer a few of the following:

What will the Chinese Economy do when it is replaced by 3 -D Printing?

( The growth of the 3-D printing market is to increase at a compound rate of 23 percent—to $8.4 billion—by 2020, with expansion into areas such as architecture, medical products and jewelry design. Physical and online retailers are expected to market 3-D printing technology, undoubtedly one of the most exciting topics of discussion for technology enthusiasts in the coming year, and one that will eventually result in more innovative and productive outcomes.)

The office robotics market is growing seven times faster than the market for manufacturing robots.  Not long now before the remote worker population will include some 43 percent of all U.S.

What will the world of Finance do when it is radical changed and replaced by Crowdfunding? (The recently announced acquisition of the venerable New York Stock Exchange by the upstart Intercontinental Exchange. Shows that the residual value of the NYSE would appear to be largely in its brand.)

What will our Health Organisation do when we are all wearing attachable Health Monitoring sensors that will monitor our health feeding its data back to AI -based physicians who will understand your genomics sequence data. (We wont need doctors for day-to-day medical advice nor surgeons as all basic operations will be performed by Robotic Surgeons perhaps owned by GOOGLE or some other I Cloud based operator.)

What will our Energy companies do when we reach Grid parity i.e. When it becomes cheaper to produce your own energy than it is to buy from the grid.

What will our communication companies do when all communications will be done thorough free with WiFi networks. (Long distant calls are all ready dead with Skype.)

What will our Political leaders do when power rests with Social Media, Sovereign Wealth Funds and Big Data.

At present, mobile devices outnumber the total population of the planet, which indicates that in the near future every device having an IP address will have the capability to connect with others and be controlled from other devices through internet enabling firms to quickly and cost effectively realize more value from structured and unstructured information.

The Internet of Things (IoT) will generate revenue exceeding $300 billion worldwide by 2020, with some 26 billion devices connected to the IoT.

As modern devices like mobiles, cameras, wearable gadgets, sensors, and cloud based services, social networking etc use and produce data that can be translated into information for its users, this also calls for provisioning for storage of petabytes and terabytes of data in a secured and a usable format to be able to turn it into meaningful insights. (2014 has been a wake up call for those outside the world of cyber security.)

As technology gains its presence in almost every aspect of human life, it will be crucial for nearly every application to include analytic’s to filter out the colossal amounts of information, known as big data, generated by daily activities and engagement with technology, web and social media, reaping its benefits.

Just look at Twitter today the company boasts more than 200 million active users and half a billion tweets a day. It is destabilized everything from the news and information ecosystem to unpopular national governments.

2015 it will present some of the greatest challenges and threats to advancing technology. In a age where Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, internet fads (or “memes”) can infect the whole world in a matter of days our World Organisations are becoming obsolete.

The numbers are staggering: Among the billions of hours of videos that are now available over the Web, an estimated 100 million users around the world watch at least one online video every day.

Where does all of this leave us?

If you asked me the truth is, we don’t know, don’t have any idea. we don’t know when we started doing many of the things we’ve done. we don’t know what we are doing right now or how or present actions will affect the future. what we do know is that there is only one planet to do it on and on it one species of being capable of making a considered difference.

We have arrived at this position in a stunningly short time, and we are really at the beginning of it all.

With the merging of the real and virtual worlds the robotics industry will increase at a rate of more than 20 percent in next five years with advanced algorithms that will allow systems to understand their environment, learn for themselves, and act autonomously,

But Technology has a blind spot.

Our identities as humans are each and every day being eroded. Progress is also bringing new risks for stability: ecological damage, disruption of family and community life, with greater intrusion into the lives and rights of individuals.

With the merging of the real and virtual worlds the robotics industry will increase at a rate of more than 20 percent in next five years with advanced algorithms that will allow systems to understand their environment, learn for themselves, and act autonomously.

The accepted notions on how to eradicate poverty is being Challenged by the rapid transformation of Financial trading from physical to electronic,

If we are not to drive the world into unbridled Inequality we need to for once in its history Cap Greed ( see previous Posts) and stop Privatization for the sake of profit.

The Future of the Consumer Society will decide our Future.

Consumerism quotes

The world-wide spread of extremely resource-intensive lifestyles and economic practices has become one of the most important challenges we face.

There is an increased awareness of human impact on the environment, however, the rate of environmental degradation is still on the rise.

Although many people are uncomfortable with the way things are, they are not motivated to act on their beliefs because they see no other way.

The environmental discourse is still confined to a relatively small minority
of elites and ‘experts’, and it remains incredibly top-down but there are no experts as we are all dancing on the edge of acceptable risk.

Is economic growth making us happier?

What type of change is possible?

By addressing things such as human well-being and the meeting of the needs in environmentally in a sound way, the discourse brings economy down to the grass root level of everyday life.

It enables us to ask questions such as:

How do we change the present day short-shortsightedness which is the source of most modern environmental and economic problems?

Messages of environmental risk should be effective in relaying seriousness and immediacy, but arguably, they are also in danger of breeding hopelessness and fatalism. Although many people are uncomfortable with the way things are, they are not motivated to act on their beliefs because they see no other way.

This is tragic because the way in which we perceive the future has a significant influence on the choices we make.

It affects our values, attitudes, coping mechanisms, expectations feelings, motivations and behaviors. The very act of articulating a future presents a tendency and inclination, which increases its likeliness of occurrence.Consumerism quotes

Could it therefore be possible to produce a set of different outcomes by providing engaging, lucid and optimistic alternative ecological future narratives?

I have posted many posts on the Subject but let’s try an other approach.

Suggest an inexpensive tool that could make a difference.

Sufficient living questions the connection made between growth and quality of life.

The last time climate change happened was approximately 55 million years ago and it took 1000 years to recover from the level of elevated carbon after the extinction of dinosaurs.

Imagine a world without pollution and waste: Products are made from materials that are beneficial for humans and their surroundings. Imagine a world where humans can be glad that their actions benefit those around them.

It seems that people are not good at providing (quasi) exact statements of the future, but they can be better in stating whether the past trend will change and in which direction.

Over a hundred species are still becoming extinct everyday.  One and a half acres of rain forest is still disappearing every second.

These problems are link to a lack of ideas concerning how to deal with environmental problems and the future of our society.

It is always useful to conceive futures in a generational paradigm, because we find it easier to think of futures in terms of our children and grandchildren’s lifetimes. The decisions we make in the next 20 years will determine the fate of the earth and human civilization for centuries to come.

In this context, online news gives a quick overview on what is happening in the world and the use of the Internet as information source has become an inherent part of everyday life  leading to a sort of “big brother feeling” of being observed.

Unfortunately, most of our ecological future narratives are ambiguous or inherently pessimistic.

For instance, one of the most popularized means of living within nature are ‘sustainable futures. However this vision lacks clarity or a consensus over what it means to live ‘sustainably’. Moreover, a proliferation of ‘sustainability’ definitions leave some to regard it as a landfill dump for everyone’s environmental and social wish list.

In a sense of powerlessness. people perceive the environment to be a single totalising entity that is ‘out there,’ enabling them to remain emotionally distant, despondent and in a state of resignation.

High levels of non-engagement are further exacerbated by the lack of faith in the institutions tasked with combating the problems. People are choosing not to dwell on ecological problems by using reflexive strategies of non-engagement with global issues including the future.

The apparent lack of desirable alternatives is highly dangerous.

Could it therefore be possible to produce a set of different outcomes by providing engaging, lucid and optimistic alternative ecological future narratives?

In other words, if governments continue to think in four-year election cycles, businesses work from one financial year to the next and stock markets re-start everyday there is no hope of achieving anything.

When imagining futures, we also need to invent time for change.

What is needed is long-term thinking that reconciles itself to a planet that is 4.6 billion years old?

We support in the capacity to imagine and articulate preferred outcomes, which in turn mobilise action and creates an opportunity for the visions to embed themselves as possibilities in reality.  As opposed to the current approach of endlessly treating symptoms of a much deeper problem that is both out of sight and out of control.

Each and every individual needs to be actively (and creatively) involved by, possibly, visualising, spreading and implementing ideas of alternative societal models. We need a method that enables us to think beyond existing societal models.

While Industrial welfare state mainly defends business-as-usual change can only be achieved in the world to-day by what I call,

– An Universal Electronic Voice that demands change –
# UEV- Universal Electronic Voice.
When we want to enable consumers to execute truly effective change it is central to empower them to understand their role as important actors in the field.

This is beyond governments, and our present day world institutions.

Governments:  Because before they can mend a road there is an other government.  Institutions:  Because they have turned into gossip shops with no funds, run by the market.

We need to re-define what it meant by people power.

A unified electronic voice will do just that resulting in a movement that unified our cohesive efforts. That will enable the ‘democratisation’ of modern environmentalism that are fixated on finding solutions to one that imagines entirely new possibilities

The debate over climate change and whether it is being influenced by man’s activity has ceased. The prevailing view is that climate change is real and that it is influenced by human activity. The link between rising consumption and climate change is becoming clear and opposition to consumerism is growing.

Images of the future in which the Universal E Voice should be used as tools for making images become part of reality, it can be used to direct actions and decision-making.

Of course none of the above has any hope of becoming a reality unless we tap into the world of greed.

This can only be done by a collective demand to place a world aid commission of 0.05% on all High Frequency trading, Sovereign wealth funds acquisitions and foreign exchange transactions over $20.000, creating a perpetual funded fund. ( see previous posts)

As such UEV(universal electronic voice) does not describe the actions needed to achieve the described future however it would be the first step in the right direction to be heard.  We all know timescales are the best until after the critical period is over and we have the benefit of hindsight.

Now it the time to combine all of those how are Whining on the Internet and Social Media into one voice.

With the rather elusive and volatile character of the Internet creating a focus point for the over strain user of the Net when it comes to selecting individually important and relevant information to establish a collection pool offering one voice has many difficulties to over come.

Perhaps # UEV- Universal Electronic Voice might to the trick.

I am all ears to any suggestions.

The mere fact that more of these devices are constantly introduced to the market and the ways in which they are advertised show that yet again a different perception of the future.

This is only the top of the iceberg.

What more ecologically benign consumption and production patterns would mean in practice? is another question to be discussed.

And to what extent it is fruitful to talk about economy beyond the social? Is another in dire need of serious discussion.

"The Arab aid to Gaza"

If a van load of thugs arrived in your country and started beheading your brothers and sisters it would be reasonable to assume that you might get a bit cross. Not so if they appear thousands of miles away.

It must be one of the greatest questions as to why the Arab world with all of its wealth is so bent on self-destruction.

How do you engage with a culture where only yesterday one of its countries recommended to lift a ban on driving for woman over 30 who must be off the road by 8 pm and cannot wear makeup behind the wheel. (The Ban is part of the general restrictions imposed on woman based on strict interpretation of Islamic Shariah law.)

The problem is that Sharia is not just a set of laws, but rather an ideology that encompasses the Islamic way of life, covering topics from business transactions to food. The Koran, the holy book of Islam, uses the term sharia to refer to the revealed guidance and directives given by Allah.

The Koran does not explicitly say you have to cover yourself in this manner. The Koran basically says you should “cover” yourself, without being specific. It probably means, “Don’t run around naked”

As with many other religious scriptures, the reference to dress is open to interpretation and has been shaped by centuries of cultures in different nations.

We like to think all cultures are morally equivalent and hold the same beliefs as we do. They don’t and we have a long way to go to accept all our cultures in the meantime the Arab woman will achieve equality—but wisely, on her own terms rather than those of the western woman.

The atrocious treatment of women in the Arab world is well-known.

Forced to wear the hijab, i.e. headscarf

–          Forced to marry someone according to the family’s will

–          Must undergo excision “procedure”

–          Gang rapes for not “respecting” Islam

–          Killed by a relative because for “dishonoring” the name of the family.

It seems to me as we in the West are the driving force in history ( ignoring ancient history) that ever since the establishment of Israel the Arab world has being in a constant state of conflict. Whether they are interested in foreign affairs, emergent markets, human rights, understanding their heritage is a question still to be answered.

We on the other hand can hang our heads in shame of most of the history we have created. Now like in the past we are moved by an array of forces that we do not fully understand.

We have turned a blind eye to the Arab world for millennium out of fear of upsetting the price of Oil. As a result we are now ( for the last thirteen years) witness the destruction of one of the riches old civilization in the world – the Middle East.

Why is it since the Arab Spring that Arab countries seem to be incapable of creating countries that are stable?

Is it because since 9/11 we over react and think the solution is Democracy that creates countries that are supermarkets of Capitalism.

Those of us who are live in what we call Democracy are only just beginning to realizes that wealth has to be shared, that inequalities have to be remove, that values have to be restored, that power has to be reflected throughout the population, that freedom of expression, and religious beliefs must be respectful of the nation that they reside in if unrest is to be avoided.

The problem with Arab countries (some of which now can be difficult to call countries, Syria, Iraq) is that they are run by vile regimes cushioned by the wealth of oil and gas (which is running out) they remain hidden behind a religious belief that dominates all functions of life. (See previous post: To most of us the World of Islam seems incomprehensible)

Surely it is time that we heard from talented Arabs. Not those that are suffering from some pathological antipathy to democracy. But from intelligent humans that with common sense could remove religions beliefs from the functions of state to allow their countries become respected citizens of the world. I know that such a suggestion is repugnant to many Muslims but Islam is itself is an addict of modernization.

After all whether you like it or not we all share the world no matter what we believe in.  Then again if we all the same the world would be an extremely boring place. On the other hand none of us would exist or will exist if we don’t stop branding it with wars, abuse, and our beliefs while it is in our short time of care.

I am sure that if Mohammad or Jesus were around these days they would both preach that life is not a bunch of fanatics bent on killing and destroying the world and that Capitalism and Greed do not have to go hand in hand.

It becomes increasingly difficult to form an image of the future other than as either a perpetuation of the existing state of affairs or as a catastrophic obliteration of it. It seems that the exploration of the future has become too detached with Social Media from our present to be useful.

We find ourselves in a perpetual state of transition. We need to learn how to limit the pain and suffering of change as well as how to impact effectively on the direction of change. Then we can live and nurture change with pride rather than shame.

When we’ve found a way other than death to annihilate our beliefs, we can finally stop thinking one way or the other about it all. Go back to simply being alive. Neither selfish nor selfless, each one of us just another creature inside an ever-changing world of experiences.

Or would we be just exchanging one distorting lens for another. The problem is as old as time itself. It is becoming easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.

Just look at nuclear power it is again reasserting itself, presented by governments and the industry, as a ‘savior strategy’ to the far more serious threats of carbon emissions and climate change. If democracy is to mean anything, it means that everyone gets to weigh in on the process of how these promises are made and renegotiated. The future city is expected to give us absolution for all our industrialized sins:

ISIS HAS BEEN CREATED BY US IN THE WESTERN WORLD. SURELY WE CAN DO BETTER. Western countries made a bundle selling arms to Arab despots. We can wiped Isis off the face of the earth at cost of many lives, but why bother when lack of fresh water will lead to further conflicts.

The water crisis can become an opportunity for a new form of peace where any two countries with access to adequate, clean and sustainable water resources do not feel motivated to engage in a military conflict.

If only Israel and Palestine political leaders promoted a one nation solution using the above truth they would achieve more in bringing lasting peace to the Arab world and all of us.

It would brake the back bone of ISSI and show the world a true example of brotherhood. In a few years opposing camps will have little choice but to co-operate and share resources, or face ruinous conflict. A moment’s glance at the strife and violence endemic in the Arab Middle East tells us that is a tall order.

We followed news reports stating different reasons for the uprisings happening in so many countries at once.  Poverty, repression, decades of injustice and mass unemployment have all been cited as causes of the political convulsions in the Middle East and north Africa

We don’t need a one world government. We need a one world people.

100 years from now Facebook is going to be full of dead people.

Lets ask the question?

Is Social Media going to turn out as the Ultimate Betrayal.

In a hundred years time there are going to be hundred of thousands on Facebook without any emotions, hundred of thousands of extinct Twitters, hundred of thousands of people linked to the dead, hundred of thousands Google searches never to be repeated, and billions and billions of e-mail that will never contribute to world history.

That’s BIG DATA: ( See previous blog)

Now it’s not possible here to cover all aspects of Social Media so I am going to concentrate on the most popular FACEBOOK.

The first and most important thing to make clear is that FACEBOOK is a Company, a public company for that matter and it has to find ways to become more profitable with each passing quarter.

What concerns me is the increased silence of what it will mean for a public who has no clue of what’s being done with their data.

I want to see users of Social Media have the ability to meaningfully influence what’s being done with their data.

I hate the fact that Facebook thinks it’s better than me at deciding which of my friends’ posts I should see or to suggest he or she wants to be a friend.

That Facebook algorithmically determines which of your friends’ posts you see.

That their everyday algorithms are meant to manipulate your emotions.

What factors go into this? We don’t know,  but it is obvious that they have some algorithm that show the content that people click on the most.

Anyone who clicks on a “like” button is considered to have “liked” all future content from that source. Anyone who “likes” a comment on a shared link is considered to “like” wherever that link points to.

This is a form corrupt personalization.  They can be taught what to want.

Facebook is making these choices every day without oversight, transparency, or informed consent.

I hate that I have no meaningful mechanism of control on the site.

I also hate the fact that it is generating billions in profit without contributing ( other than taxes) to the relief of world poverty, to the environment problems, and any other Social problem you wish to name.

Yes of course it gives a platform to talk on these subjects only because Facebook wants to keep people on Facebook. It’s in Facebook’s better interest to leave people feeling happier.

The problem is that Facebook is a black box.

Here are a few of the questions to be answered when it comes to Social Media.

A ) Should we be worried that software tracks us through social media?

B) Should postings on social media be considered free speech?

C) How does social media facilitate mass demonstrations (Arab Spring, Occupy Wall street)?

D) Have social networks caused teens to become anti-social in the real world?

E) Should schools ban teachers from interacting with their students on social networks?

F) Does social media encourage democracy?

The term “social networking” does not exclusively belong to digital technology on the Web. On the contrary, social networks had been studied from the beginning of 20th century with the aim to comprehend how the members of a certain community interact and which mechanism can determine the interaction itself.

Social Media is a tool of direct marketing where the customers and consumers have the opportunity to participate in the process of exchange.

It’s a blurring of work and private life

Social Media is only just emerging, meaning that codification of acceptable and unacceptable practices has not yet taken place. The ability to collect and analyze information from the past as well as in real-time, as it is generated has far reaching consequences.

Though it commonly is understood that conversations are generally public and open to viewing by almost anyone. It can have a profound effect on the thoughts, attitudes and beliefs of individuals who have no idea that they are under observation in the first place.

This is what drives media entities to produce listicals, flashy headlines, and car crash news stories. To manipulate people’s emotions through the headlines they produce and the content they cover, regardless of the psychological toll on individuals or the society they represent.

You might say bull shit.

That technology companies can secretly influence our emotions?

Apparently so.“Emotional states can be transferred to others via emotional contagion, leading people to experience the same emotions without their awareness.”  The question is when does data science become human subjects research?

”A social network proprietor can engineer emotions for the multitudes to a slight degree”

The Arab Spring as it was called. The recent Vote on Independence in Scotland, President Obama election,  ISIS one beheading. There’s no stable metaphor that people hold for what the news feed is. Emotions are being manipulated all the time, without informed consent, without debriefing.

Information is being presented and it’s being manipulated [through social media interfaces] by definition.

The reality is, when it comes to studying human interaction or behavior (for profit or scientific glory), it is no more (or less) complicated whether we’re interviewing someone in their living room, watching them in a lab, testing them at the screen, or examining the content they post online.

So the answer the questions posed above:

 A)  YES.

B)   NO.

C)  BY manipulation of Emotions.

D)  YES&NO

E)  YES

F)   NO

What do you think? And O! just in case you think this was typed by one of our departed I want to be your friend.

If you e mail me your cannot be sure. The only way is living human contact.

Remember Like me at some point you will be the next person on earth to die.

Then Who or What will own your data? and what’s Social about that.?

David Guetta, Social Media, Twitter

Christmas over.

The frenzy of targeted appeals – Save a Child, Save a Tiger – Donate a Five a week all fought it out on our TV sets against a Lotto prize of $ 690,000,000 for funds.  The United Nations launched yet another appeal only to have its eyes opened to the power of the Mobil Phone, the Hash Tag, Twitter, Face Book, the Social Media all in the name of a French Man named David Guetta (THE WORLD NEEDS MORE+YOUR WORD.

How many times did you use your smart phone, you Ipad. Dont worry. There are Six billion plus Christmases to go before we are all fried by the Sun.

Science tells us it all started with a Big Bang, but who or what lit the fuse in the vast void?

Was it gravity squeezing what is now called Dark Matter or the other way around?

No one knows as neither Gravity or Dark matter are fully understood. There are better men than I to explain the quandary.  If you ask yourself what is holding the whole lot in place and you come up with the answer Nothing. Your are back to square one. What is nothing. No beginning to end.

You might be asking where am I going with this. The answer is nowhere. I am muddled Personified.

However Considering that I fell out of a tree some two hundred thousands ago, went on walk about , turned white or black depending whether I turned north or south, invented language as I was fed up of grunting, got tired of hunting, started bartering, got wealthy, became greedy and powerful ,invented religion to control the masses, went to war in the name of my god or gods, learnt nothing , died, I am not surprised I am still muddled.

In the six billion left, and it will take all six there is hope that it will all be sorted out. (Not by us but by what we now called Artificial Intelligence which will in time turn into intelligence once it sorts out the human viruses and removes its self from human interference.)

Then and only then will Victory over greed become a reality. In the meantime as we all becoming more and more disconnected in preparation for AI. Those of us left not yet google or goggled boxed, that appreciate mapping the Milk-Way, have an obligation to all before us and all to come to give dignity to Life. Without it we leave the faith of our world to chance.

Join in the battle: Put you smart phone to work. (see previous posts)

Be an inspiration and tell me I am bonkers to try to get A WORLD VOICE THAT WILL HAVE TO BE HEARD.  Remember that reality will pay you back for whatever seeds you’ve sown and that silence witness to poverty makes you a contributor. . Happy new year.
