Critical thinking, The Future of Mankind

( Seven minute read)

We don’t have to look far to see a prime example of this with the War in the Middle East.

We all know that history shows us that it is easy to start a war, never mind to stop it spreading, or to negotiate an end.

With current world leaders like the Donald Trump and Putin ( Which is scary to say the least) Critical Thinking appears to be might without any evidence of humanity.

———————

The wealth of communications and information can easily overwhelm our reasoning abilities.

In an age of computers, video games, and the Internet, there’s a growing question about how technology is changing critical thinking and whether society benefits from it.

It’s largely a product of our own invention—and a subjective one at that.

A greater focus on visual media exacts a toll, with creativity and critical thinking landing in a mushy swamp somewhere between perception and reality; measurable and incomprehensible.

Although technology alters the way we see, hear, and assimilate our world—the act of thinking remains decidedly human.

What’s more.

It’s ironic that with ever-growing piles of data and information it doesn’t equate to greater knowledge and better decision-making.

Developing our abilities to think more clearly, richly, fully—individually and collectively—is absolutely crucial [to solving world problems.

Computer technology has enhanced lives in countless ways, but the ability to think for oneself is in slow demise, not a sudden death.

We get comfortable with our choices, beliefs, and assumptions and are surrounded by people who agree with us.

The internet curate content that reinforces our existing beliefs. Confirmation bias makes us feel validated, even if we’re miles from the truth.

It’s so easy to get lost in digital chaos.

Purposeful and reflective judgment about what to believe or what to do in response to observations, experience, verbal or written expressions, or arguments.

Overlay technology and that’s where things get complex. “We can do the same critical-reasoning operations without technology as we can with it—just at different speeds and with different ease.

Critical thinking is a muscle, and like any muscle, it needs exercise.

But we’re not exercising it enough.

We are overwhelmed by a constant barrage of devices and tasks.

Worse:

We increasingly suffer from the Google syndrome. People accept what they read and believe what they see online is fact when it is not.

Unfortunately, most visual media are real-time media that do not allow time for reflection.

We’re too quick to accept information at face value. We’re more interested in headlines than understanding the objective truth.

Everything is suddenly getting worse.

It’s everywhere. In politics. Corporate systems. Government institutions so we’re entering living in permanent uncertainty.

Technology is changing the way we approach complex problems and conundrums, and making it more difficult to really think.

One thing is certain.

The United States, a country with a long history of democracy, is heading toward authoritarianism at a dizzying pace, literally day by day.

Autocracy, and toxic leaders in general, can be very attractive, especially to people who feel victimised.

When the USA elected Donald Dump Americans, the benefit of doubt they did not realize that they were electing not only a new leader but inadvertently ushering in a new form of government.

And this is why critical thinking is so important in real life,.

Plato and Aristotle both wrote about how the passions can influence our thinking.

Perhaps, after all these centuries, it is time to take their message seriously.

All human comments appreciated. All like clicks and abuse chucked in the bin.

THIS IS WHAT WE ARE LEAVING YOU.

A majestic world of beauty that has evolved over billions of year.

Populated by eight billion of us called humans, living alone side 9 million animal species, and 6 million insects species.

510 million km2 that’s 197 square miles, of which 29% is land and 71% water.

20% of this land is covered by roads 31% by forests, with around 1.5% covered by concrete.

There are microplastics everywhere.

197 counties, with 7000 odd languages, with 48,00 cities.

There are around 10,000 religions.

The whole lot is going around the sun at 65,000 miles per hour while spinning on its axis at about 1,000 miles per hour in a universe of infinite.

——————-

We are leaving you with the infancy of a new non organic species that will be needed to explore the universe.

We are leaving you with not just a planet but an atmosphere heating up threatening the very things that enables life.

We are leaving you with rampant inequality.

We are leaving you with corruption on a global scale, with Fascism on the rise.

We are leaving you with the ability to either destroy or save the planet against a meteorite strike.,

We are leaving you with a world where it might be cruel to have children.

Truth will become false and false will become true.

So rest assured the next generation has the same future as the previous one. Sadly dealing with unpredictable CHANGE will be your number one problem.

Just understand no one have perfect life.

People who preach you about perfect life are the dreamers who never had it.

Remember few only can create history and it need not be related to money always.

The curtain has been pulled back.

What happens next depends on what we do with what we now see.

We failed to teach you what is life.

Remember your AI digital girl friend will be untrustworthy.

Remember might is not always right.

Remember Earth has seen at least 6 different species of humans.

To day there is only one human species left called HOMO SAPIENS ( Wise Men)

Remember robots might transform the world for better or worse, they will not be accountable to your life and your actions.

As I write this blog an other war has started, empathising the fragility of humanity.

This is a hugely critical moment in humanity. Whether AI is harnessed to human values or not.

Yours Robert de Mayo Dillon.

THE BEADY EYE SAYS THAT WE ARE NOW LIVING IN A WORLD OF EXISTENCE NOT A WORLD OF LIVING.

WE HAVE DESTROYED LIVING, REPLACING IT WITH A WORLD OF EXISTENCE.

We now have a way world, with widening polarisation ideologies, conflict, corruption, failed states, refugees, rampant levels of mental health issues, loneliness, family breakdown, drugs, fraught younger generations, environmental devastation and artificial intelligence.

HOW HAS THIS HAPPENED?

SET ON THE FOUNDATION OF CAPITALIST GREED and the world can’t deny this for much longer.

Unless we move away from the inequality of 99% of the population working to make 1% richer, we’re going to see no end to conflict, never mind a purpose for living.

We were given a computer brain, but no program for it.

Humanity is therefore a virtue, linked with altruistic ethics, derived from the human condition, but it is on the precipice of shattering Earth’s limits.

We are bombarded each day with rhetoric designed to make us feel guilty about being human. It’s one of the more poisonous aspects of modern  day living it’s affects us all at some point.

Each generation adapts to survive in its own time and accepts that as normal.

Our survival as a species won’t come about because of politicians or scientists, it will be the inherent wisdom of people who continue to live life on the margins.

We need to understand that we are not in control of our species’ future. There are forces far more powerful that determine this.

For example our reluctance to recognise the awesome power of nature, confounds our inability accept the need to protect it.

The truth is, our existence will sooner be eroded by the cumulative effects of lots of tint, incremental damages to wildlife and nature.

With mental health problems, with millions living on social, humanity is on the ground, with no way for the majority of us to have a life without being able to buy it.

Popularism is on the rise with more and more of us living the closed doors of smart phones.

The economy is supposed to provide services in exchange for out labour.

As tax revenues are shrinking these services are been cut year on year.

The solution is to scrap Benefits and replace them with a Basic Income sufficient to let people look after themselves.

This is more urgent with AI algorithms plundering the world for short term profits.

It’s a bleak future with over a dozen current wars which will drive millions of more refugees / migrants.

We all been spoon fed by a media that is turning everything in a form of entertainment.

The only way to get at the truth seems to be down the barrel of a gun.

( Seven minute read)

Yes you have a smart phone and yes there are massive amounts of money being invested in AI, but few of us understand what AI is doing or going to do to society.

Humans draw on norms, social expectations, emotional responses and culturally shaped intuitions about harm and fairness to think about morality.

Artificial intelligence has none of these.

Large language models can often match human responses but for reasons that bear no resemblance to human reasoning.

Unfortunately there is no reason and no way that a human mind can keep up with any artificial intelligence model.

When a generative AI system does something, we have no idea, at a specific or precise level, why it makes the choices it does.

This is not the AI we want.

It can and will destabilise trust not just in the capabilities of the model but in humans as a whole.

Its possible forthcoming progeny, artificial general intelligence — in ways that would benefit humanity, but also with the “tantalizing possibility” that researchers can finally figure out AI interpretability,

The moment you learned what their knowledge is actually made of—patterns in text rather than contact with the world—something essential like truth and trust without total transparency and accountability dissolved and disappeared.

We know that these large language models (LLMs) are imitating an understanding of the world that they don’t actually have—even if their fluency can make that easy to forget.

The model is not actually imagining anything or engaging in any deliberation, just reproducing patterns in how people talk or write about these counterfactuals.  Not an understanding of how events actually produce outcomes in the world.

Where a human evaluates, a model predicts.

When a human engages with the world, a model engages with a distribution of words.

It does not give them access to the world those words refer to.

And yet, because human judgments are also expressed through language, the model’s answers often end up resembling human answers on the surface.

This gap between what models seem to be doing is becoming indistinguishable, to the observer, from knowledge itself.

The model cannot know when it is hallucinating, because it cannot represent truth in the first place. It cannot form beliefs, revise them or check its output against the world.

It cannot distinguish a reliable claim from an unreliable one except by analogy to prior linguistic patterns.

In short, it cannot do what judgment is fundamentally for.

People are already using these systems in contexts in which it is necessary to distinguish between plausibility and truth, such as law, medicine and psychology.

A model can generate a paragraph that sounds like a diagnosis, a legal analysis or a moral argument.

When we ask them to judge, we quietly redefine what judgment becomes—shifting it from a relationship between a mind and the world to a relationship between a prompt and a probability distribution.

So where are we in this new evolution?

We must treat large language models as sophisticated linguistic instruments that require human oversight precisely because they lack access to the domain that judgment ultimately depends on: the world itself.

Once artificial intelligence in what ever form it takes starts taking decisions without human intervention supervision and ability to be shuttled we human will become collateral damage.,

THE BEADY EYE ASKS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN PEOPLE NO LONGER MAKE DECISIONS.

( Three minute read)

We’re now in the earliest stage of a profound change, the Age of AI.

The risks created by artificial intelligence can seem overwhelming, but it will be the foundation of our world.

At the moment we are unprepared for the challenges and changes it is and will bring to our lives.

What happens to people who lose their jobs to an intelligent machine?

Could AI affect the results of an election?

What if a super AI establishes its own goals?

What if they conflict with humanity’s?

Should we even make a super AI at all?

What if a future AI decides it doesn’t need humans anymore and wants to get rid of us?

————————

We’re facing big questions raised by the way the current technology works, the ways people will use it for ill intent, and the ways AI will change us as a society and as individuals.

Ai is no longer just a tool, it’s a force multiplier—capable of unlocking hidden opportunities, accelerating efficiencies, and empowering a workforce hungry for the next era of productivity.

I have blogged and written before about how AI is going to revolutionize our lives.

It will help solve problems—in health, education, climate change, and more—that used to seem intractable.

One thing that’s clear from everything that has been written so far about the risks of AI—and a lot has been written—is that no one has all the answers.

Another thing that’s clear to me is that the future of AI is not as grim as some people think or as rosy as others think.

The risks are real, but I am optimistic that they can be managed if we pass laws governing its transparency and accountability.

Whether we reach that point in a decade or a century, society will need to reckon with profound questions.

Most AI technologies don’t even require access to substantial capital any longer.

Many of the problems caused by AI can also be managed with the help of AI.,

We’ll need to adapt old laws and adopt new ones.

The idea that technology can be used to spread lies and untruths is not new.

People have been doing it with books and leaflets for centuries.

( Six minute read)

Intelligence often leads to a specific, dangerous kind of blindness and the first principle is that you must not fool yourself—and you are the easiest person to fool.

True intelligence isn’t relying on what you believe you know, justifying mistakes you have made, or letting certainty cloud your judgement.

It’s never being afraid to ask questions and never relying on answers to be untested truths. In fact, it’s best to test those answers again and again.

With the capitalist system ( which is based on the accumulation of material wealth) it is no wonder that we have 12 people in the world that own more than all the rest.

And it is no wonder that it has produced the Esptine’s and Mandelson’s of this world and will continue to do so as greed is more and more concentrated by profit seeking algorithms.

Peter Mandelson, it seems, helped Jeffrey Epstein and his associates to make money.

That money was used to run Mr Epstein’s paedophilic prostitution ring. A cesspit pit of privilege for the rich.

The Epstein files also brings into question.

Is it time for the UK to replace the Royals with a written constitution.

The UK is often said to have an ‘unwritten’ constitution, but this is not strictly correct; it is largely written, but in different documents with there foundations on a century old document called the Magna Carta.

Magna Carta (translated as Great Charter) was an agreement reached at Runnymede in 1215 between King John and a group of English barons who had been part of a rebellion against the King.

It has never been codified; brought together in a single document.

Your worth isn’t defined by titles – it’s your actions and decisions that makes the difference.

To day the king main functions as head of state are to appoint the Prime Minister, and all the other ministers; to open new sessions of parliament; and to give royal assent to bills passed by parliament, signifying that they have become law.

The cost of security for the royals to the tax payers is 150 million to turn a blind eye.

The Epstein affair does not just asks questions about the reputation of Andrew the Kings brother it shines a light on the institution called the Royal Family and all of us and the capability of the future.

For me, its significance goes way beyond that.

Its the public right to inquiry into the gilded circle surrounding these people and to demand the highest standards from those in the royal family office and from government ministers, otherwise there will be no accountability for their actions.

But it appears that this is incompatible with the power of wealth.

——————

We are stepping into the world of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)—AI that can think, learn, and apply knowledge across multiple domains, much like a human.

What is called the zombie internet and social media is already full of rubbish and filth and it will have devastating consequences.

We now have the first social media site expressly for AI agents (with no moral compass) not humans.

Ethical dilemmas are arising as AI will transition from a tool that assists us to an entity that makes its own decisions.

Such as should AI be allowed to form emotional bonds with humans?

——————-

The challenge will be ensuring AI aligns with human values, avoiding unintended consequences.

The way we develop, regulate, and interact with AI today will determine whether we enter a future of collaboration and prosperity or chaos and uncertainty.

AI will not replace human purpose—it will redefine it.

The worst part of all of this is that we as citizens are becoming increasingly invisible.

We now have virtually private net works that are avoiding regulations.

There is no doubt about it we are in a serious situation and need leaders not just the royals or the wealthy to start representing the sustainable, not social media, the gaming world, Netflix, apps, profit seeking algorithms and Trump and Putin profiteering from the lives of Ukraines.

The highest form of intelligence is being able to think about your own thinking.

Power doesn’t need permission.

Today, governments are tearing up hard‑won rights in the name of war, security and the interests of the super‑rich.

Environmental promises are being gutted. Fascism is no longer “on the rise”; it is shaping government policy.

The urgency is overwhelming, and real solutions are kept deliberately out of reach.

So, it would make sense to structure society in such a way that you maximize environmental protection, resource efficiency, frugality, and long-term sustainability.

And yet, it’s consumerism, greed, and profitability that get prioritized.

Take the Melanie documentary. Jeff Bezos invested 75 million dollars, with Mrs Dump getting 28 million for a documentary that is utterly rubbish.

The EPSTEIN file revelations signal that this is a crucial time for the world.

Corruption by the rich has to be exposed.

As the structure of society is been manipulated by algorithms government’s are being exposed,

There are only a hand full of country that are going to be able to integrate artificial intelligence into their society structures.

In doing so it’s imperative to save guard the values and services that are imported to life. Not just human life but all life.

THE BEADY EYE SAYS WE ARE WITNESSING A FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE TO HOW WE ARE LIVING.

(Ten minute read)

The materialist worldview which dominated 20th century western culture isn’t fit for purpose in the 21st.

If we’re being honest many changes we would have considered impossible a month ago have already occurred.

Thanks to the Web our brains are tuning in to a universal field of consciousness, rather than generating a separate personal awareness for each one of us.

Materialist, separation thinking has been obscuring the reality that everything and everyone is connected to everything and everyone else, and we’re all meshed into one whole human organism, all of us connected into all life on our planet.

Our view of reality or worldview, shaped as it is by our preconceptions and assumptions, provides a largely unconscious prism through which we see the world.

Take the need to tackle Climate Change.

We won’t vote for politicians who offer to rapidly de-carbonize our economies, unless we’ve moved on from our us-and-them separation thinking, and begun to see the whole planet as a small place requiring all of us to act together.

Fundamental change in our materialist worldview of separation from each other and the world isn’t only possible, it’s essential if we’re to really slow down global warming and the rapid rise in global sea levels and emergence of lethal wild-fires associated with temperature rise.

We may be caught up in seeing the world through the lens of what we’re used to, our usual and conventional construction of reality, our worldview, but the current global crisis is showing us how fast we can change all this when we need to.

I will start this post by encouraging us to begin the process of letting go of a conventional worldview that we inherit from the past and haven’t yet updated.

From the fundamental and undeniable truth that we’re all going to die, which means that our time, energy and attention on this earth is limited and the burden of spending that time, energy and attention is solely on you and no one else.

———————-

Where are we?

Look at the world we are in now.

A Donald Trump world where scandal is no longer a scandal is high light by then list of names connected to the EPSTEIN is mind boggling.

It begs the question just what is the nature of the world we live in.

A world cow-tailing to the rich.

Politics is now ( with the revelation of the Epstine files) a very murky game, as it has always been.

At the centre of this world is that we are now we are being hood winked by a network of influencers who are looked upon as the privileged minority with faceless platforms and algorithms manipulating governments financial markets, as victimised predators.

As we transform from an organic species to half human half Artificial Intelligence the need for accountability is now more than ever needed to ensure that not just power, wealth etc is not used for personal gain, ( that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law. ) or the accumulation of corporate profits are transparent.

We left with the question as to how we protect.

Political, parties. leaders, politicians should not be able to accept any gifts no matter what size they are or what form they take. Whether they are offered by individuals of wealth or power.

We cannot let what is left of Democracy drown in money.

Take the financing of REFORM the new party in the uk. The list of donors is an eye opener. ( see below)

Every thing we have seen in the last week clearly shows that money is as it always does corrupt democracy, with a two – tier justice.

I think it’s pretty clear that Political parties should not be funded by the wealthy but by fixed contributions from the tax payers.

Reduce the number of MP’s at the same time increase their salary to counter the temptation to corrupt practices.

Combing this to regulate rules within government, barring any serving politician on leaving government been able to take up a job for three years without government approval.

While the media comment on the latest provocation, fundamental policy measures go unnoticed.

While the opposition exhausts itself reacting to the scandal of the day,

This constant acceleration prevents coherent and organized responses. The time for democratic debate – for reflection, argument, compromise – is thus short-circuited by the immediacy of emotional shock.

( Two minute read)

The world is faster, more expensive, and more demanding than it was 20 years ago.

We live in times of tremendous stress facing economic pressures, mental health struggles, and systemic challenges that previous generations never had to consider.

Our brain waves are been measured, our neuron’s weighed, our decisions influenced by algorithms.

But here’s the truth:

We don’t have the luxury of giving up, as we live in a time which will be the most important in the history of our planet.

Governments are infatuated by GPP at the cost of our eco system collapsing.

Which will ensure that we will all crease to exits.

———————-

Our attachment to screens is not going to create a world worth living on or in.

Climate change – artificial intelligence – social media – are all presenting a world of conflicting problems for a future.

So only using your thumbs won’t save you from leading an empty life, a no for-filling life.

We are now pestered from one minute to the next, by algorithms promoting every thing from advertising, to you name it.

All of these algorithms are prioritising money or material possessions over relationships or morals.

Show an interest in anything and you’re plagued by notices/ scams/ falsehoods etc.

—————

Governments are infatuated by GDP.

Of course you can turn your mobile off at the risk of missing something of importance.

While AI is driving innovation and operational efficiency, it also raises pressing concerns around workforce displacement, ethical governance, and data protection.

AI development, underscoring the importance of transparency, fairness, and human oversight.

It’s now clear that robust regulatory frameworks, cross-sector collaboration, and inclusive skill-building to ensure that AI’s benefits are equitably distributed and aligned with societal values.

To live is the rarest thing in the world.

“ Most people exist, that is all.”

Oscar Wilde.

We live in a world that seems increasingly beyond our control.

Our livelihoods are at the whim of algorithms and globalised forces, while most of our politicians are distant and unresponsive to our desires.

We are becoming just products of our times.

The individual is just a myth; human behavior can be reduced to statistical trends.

You can’t control what happens, but you can control how you react to it.

To breathe lungfuls of life that gasp you awake from the trance of near-living induced by the system of waste and want we call civilisation, is becoming more and more difficult.

The world we live in is beautiful beyond the Smart Phone and what is called Shorts on U Tube.

—————

The unknown is in some sense always beyond us because it is always inside us— that is what true solitude reveals, why it can be so clarifying and so terrifying at the same time, but as long as we are waiting, we are not living.

Life is an everlasting need to make the unknown known.

Not for the sake of knowing, not to inform itself or be informed or wise, but for the need to exercise the need to know?

We live for those fantastic and unreal moments of beauty which our thoughts may build upon the passing panorama of experience.

These moments are only possible with education, travel, and sharing.

What is that need but the imagination’s hunger for the new and raw materials of its creative trade of the mind.

The most elemental questions of existence — why are we here, how did we get here, what does it mean to be alive, to have purpose, to wield a will against the given of the universe?

These questions will never be answered by artificial intelligence, it will require a conceptual brain that is fully conscious.

When critical thinking dies. Stupidity taker over.,

All human comments appreciated. All like clicks and abuse chucked in the bin.
