The answer is as far as we know, no one has yet had sex in space.
There are significant gaps exist in our understanding of how human reproduction might be affected by the conditions in space which is overall biological necessity that cannot be overlooked:
WHY?
Because if one looks at sperm it becomes disoriented in conditions that simulate microgravity.
Embryo and foetal development is another unknown.
REPRODUCTION.
Zero gravity creates severe challenges at every single phase of reproduction—from conception to birth.
In microgravity, any objects that collide repel one another.
Creative solutions to solve this problem have been proposed, including a device called the Snuggle Tunnel invented.
It has been found that sperm tumbles in circles rather than swimming forward, which reduces successful navigation by roughly 30–40%.
Embryos cultured in space show higher rates of DNA damage and epigenetic alterations.
However, scientists attribute much of this damage to cosmic radiation rather than weightlessness alone.
On Earth, gravity acts as constant resistance training. Without it, a growing fetus lacks the mechanical cues required to build healthy bone density and muscle mass.
In zero gravity, body fluids shift toward the head. In a pregnant mother, altered blood volume, blood pressure, and cardiovascular strain could impair placental blood flow, increasing the risk of miscarriages or birth defects.
Childbirth involves significant blood and bodily fluids.
In weightlessness, floating fluids create severe sanitary and biohazard risks in an enclosed spacecraft.
While cellular life can divide in weightlessness, full human reproduction without artificial gravity (like rotating habitats that simulate Earth’s pull) is currently considered high-risk and biologically unfavorable.
