LET’S ASK THE QUESTION. WHY IS THERE POVERTY IN SUCH A RICH WORLD?

12 Wednesday Feb 2014

≈ Comments Off on LET’S ASK THE QUESTION. WHY IS THERE POVERTY IN SUCH A RICH WORLD?

To answer this question the first difficulties is in establishing cause and – effect relations in the history of human societies.

From Neanderthals to the disappearance of the Woolly Mammoth to the dropping of the Atom bomb exploitation of the weakest has ensured POVERTY.

So I don’t think the answer is to be gained by dredging in past history.

The answer needs no other understanding than exploitation of the weakness since time began.

Geographic connectedness has exerted both positive and negative effects on all of us. Simple societies evolve into large complex ones.

We are seeing this today in the development of technology.

Now called the age of HYPERCONNECTIVITY (78% in the USA have household computers, 76% in Europe, 8% in Africa.)

Naturally, additional factors contributed to history’s courses, but they are becoming more a more irrelevant now that ideas diffuse everywhere instantly on the internet.

Entirely news powers are emerging with new rules, with cultural factors and influences of individual people looming large that will make future history more unpredictable. Raising an important unanswered question that may make future history inexplicable in term of environmental forces or indeed of any generalizable causes.

How do we rebalance and reorganize the economy so that it benefits everybody.

To build a new anti-poverty movement will require an Organisation and Actions that are creative, visible, and gripping. There are too many ways to keep people impoverished. We know the cost of everything and not the value. When you do nothing take on action you are tarnished by the abuse.

It’s just pure stupidity to say that poverty has being reduced.

When you exclude China between 1990 – 2008 the number of people living in extreme poverty shrank only incrementally, from 1.2 billion to 1.1 billion.

Of total world income, 42% goes to those who make up the richest 10% of the world population, while just 1% goes to those who make up the poorest 10%. It’s no wonder that  equality is increasing out of control.

When you consider that value of $2 dollars in 1947 depending on which formula you work it out with was as follows.

Commodity:

Real Price – $20.60.  Labour Value – $29.60.  income Value – $59.60

Income or Wealth:

Historic Standard of Living – $20.16. Economic status $59.60 Economic Power $130

Project:

Historic Opportunity Cost – $16.30. Labour Cost $35. Economic Cost $130

Two Dollars is today purchasing power is worth sweet f all never mind the new Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) of five dollars.

So where are we?

Bill Gates points to the three Myths of Global Aid ( see TIme Jan 21,2014)

The Conference Board of Canada points to World Income Inequality.

Technology points to Job losses due to automation.

World history points to  exploitation.

Governments and politicians point everywhere but at themselves.

Our World Organisations, IMF < WORLD BANK < UNITED NATIONS point at World trade.

Banks point at a disaster. while the Economists and Politicians said” That’s terrible for the economy, let’s give them trillions.

I SAY UNLESS WE CAP GREED ( see previous blogs) and make our economies work for all  Poverty/ Inequality is here to stay.

SOME HARD FACTS ON POVERTY

07 Friday Feb 2014

Posted by bobdillon33@gmail.com in Uncategorized

≈ Comments Off on SOME HARD FACTS ON POVERTY

More than a quarter of the inhabitants of developing countries still have nothing to live on…

Almost one person in five – 1.2 billion men, women and children – are currently living in a situation of extreme poverty, surviving on the equivalent of less than one dollar a day; half the people in the world are trying to manage below the poverty level of two dollars a day.

About 824 million people go hungry or have a precarious food supply; 500 million of them suffer from chronic malnutrition.

Throughout the world, 170 million children suffer from malnutrition, more than 100 million never attend school, 230 million have no access to secondary education, and almost 250 million work to pay for their own needs and those of their families.

In the industrialised countries, more than 100 million people live below the income poverty line, 37 million are jobless, and more than 5 million people are homeless.

1.6 billion people in the world have no access to drinking water.

More than 840 million adults in the world are illiterate – 65% of them are women.

800 million people have no access to health care.

In Africa, the continent that numbers 33 of the 49 poorest countries in the world, 28.1 million people are living with HIV and AIDS. Over the next ten years, 40 million African children will lose their parents as a result of AIDS.

The developing countries have one doctor per 6 000 inhabitants, compared with one doctor for 350 inhabitants in the industrialised countries.

20% of the population of the industrialised countries account for 86% of the world’s total consumption expenditure, while the poorest 20% in the world consume no more than 1.3%.

The world has the necessary resources and skills to eradicate poverty totally in less than one generation…

The current net wealth of the ten richest billionaires is 6 billion, more than twice the total national income of the least developed countries.

The cost of eradicating poverty is 1% of global income. billion a year (equivalent to 0.5% of annual global income) would ensure universal access to basic social services (basic education, health, nutrition, access to water and sewerage disposal).

An effective improvement in the situation of the 20 poorest countries would cost .5 billion – equivalent to the cost of building EuroDisney.

Reducing the debt of the most heavily indebted countries would cost between .5 and 7.5 billion – less than the cost of a Stealth bomber.

Extreme poverty could be banished from the globe by 2015...

The proportion of humankind living in poverty has fallen faster in the past 50 years than in the previous 500 years.

Literacy levels of adults in developing countries have increased from 48% in 1970 to 72% in 1998; income poverty has fallen from 29 to 24%, and nowadays only 14 rather than 20% of newborn babies are likely to die before reaching the age of 40 years.

Over the past three decades the proportion of people with access to drinking water has almost doubled – from 36 to nearly 70%.

Each year for the past 20 years, basic immunization campaigns have saved the lives of about three million children.

Since 1960 infant mortality rates in developing countries have more than halved, and malnutrition rates have fallen by almost a third.

Between 1960 and 1993 average life expectancy increased by more than a third in developing countries. Life expectancy now exceeds 70 years in 30 countries.

Poverty is no longer inevitable; it must now be relegated to past history, alongside slavery, colonialism and nuclear war.

Christine Lagarde Managing Director, International Monetary Fund during her recent David Dimbleby Lecture (04/02/2014) to her credit touched upon most of the major problems facing the World.

She rightly pointed out that with 60% of us living in big Cities by 2030 the middle class will make up 30% of us. Hyper connected. Sending 3 million emails every second. Virtual Mobs. Growing further apart. She is right to say we are looking at Demographic time bomb. She is correct to point out that the World is becoming more fragmented in terms of power, influence and decision making.

That we are creating a Labyrinth of Inequality replacing Poverty.

She touched on climate change advocating that it is non negotiable. Very true but she then goes onto to suggest a pay for damage caused policy as a solution.

Carbon Credits like Fish Quotas done work turning into tradable items.

She highlighted one of the main threats coming from Environmental change – Heightened water stress, with 40% of the land in Africa by 2030 becoming useless.

She called for the need for more interconnections, multilateralism, Interconnected Voices, Inter Nation Bank lending, Social contracts, Inclusion, a Financial system for the 20th century. She even mentioned that you could put the world’s top 21 riches into a one decker bus.

SHE OBVIOUSLY BELIEVES THAT THE SOLUTION TO WORLD POVERTY IS BY WAY OF ECONOMIC GROWTH. POINTING OUT THAT IF MORE WOMAN IN THE WORLD WERE TO ENTER THE WORKPLACE THE WORLD ECONOMY WOULD GROW BY 30%.

THERE IS LOTS TO ADMIRE ABOUT MADAME LAGARDE SPEECH BUT IT MUST BE REMEMBERED SHE SPEAKS AS THE MD OF IMF.

SHE DID NOT MENTION THE ONGOING PRIVATISATION OF THE WORLD BY SOVEREIGN WEALTH FUNDS.

THE INEQUALITY/ POVERTY DELIVERS OF THE FUTURE.

SHE DID NOT MENTION THAT THE HYPER TECHNICAL AGE AS SHE LABELED THE NEW AGE WE LIVE IN.

WILL REMOVE MILLIONS OF JOBS THROUGH AUTOMATION.

We have Capitalism, a political system – countries trade – industries owned by private owners for profit.

We have Socialism, a political system – economy more owned by the people.

We have Communism, a political system economy owned by the state, or collective Organisations.

We have the Third Way, ideology that seek to combine egalitarian and individualist policies. A Tony Blair – a mix of Socialism and Communism.

Than you have my way. CAPITALISM WITH – EVERY TRANSACTIONS ON ALL WORLD STOCK EXCHANGES SUBJECT TO A WORLD AID COMMISSION.

To quote Bill Gates, ” Nothing can stop an idea whose time has come”

The way to stop Inequality and banish poverty is to get the heart of Capitalism  GREED  to beat money.

CAN YOU BELIVE IT POVERTY WILL BE ERADICATED IN THIRTY YEARS.

22 Wednesday Jan 2014

Posted by bobdillon33@gmail.com in Uncategorized

≈ Comments Off on CAN YOU BELIVE IT POVERTY WILL BE ERADICATED IN THIRTY YEARS.

Huffington post recently published an article

“HALF OF THE GLOBAL WEALTH ‘ OWNED BY 85 PEOPLE COULD ALL FIT ONTO A SINGLE-DECKER BUS”

Hard to BELIEVE but true.

Bill Gates predicts in the recent Gates Foundation Letter that by 2035 there will be no more poor countries.

Hard to BELIEVE.

China economy has lifted a stunning 680 million out of Extreme Poverty accounting for 3/4 of the worlds decline in poverty over the last 30 years.

True. Their economy moved from $1.25 a day to 6.3 Yuan a day or $365 p.a.

China still has a billion people living on $5 a day.

The United Nations recently announced it had achieved the promise made in 2000 by world leaders to halve Extreme Poverty by 2015.

Yet to-day 4.1 billion people still live in Extreme Poverty and every four seconds a child died from preventable causes.

All the above good news is a small step in the right direction.

The real world however paints a different picture. Inequality is growing everywhere while human Rights are being undermined.

Mankind has gone from fighting with stones – swords – to muskets – to machine guns – to right up to modern era of poison gas and nucks that can eradicate all poverty in a minute.

There is no getting away from it the 20th century has had to be the most violent in human history. Two world wars.

When you have a silent majority what has happened in History.

The Communist Russia were responsible for the murder of 20 million. The Chinese Communist managed a staggering 70 million. The Japanese 12 million. The Rwandans God Knows.

What does all this prove. Nothing I suppose other than anyone who doubts that the issue of Equality is not serious is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problem to expand. We are Silent – and then silenced.

But here is the real question.

Do you BELIEVE that in the next thirty years poverty is going to be removed from the planet by growth of 1% in GDP per head which reduces poverty by 1.7%.

Or would an increase of 1% in the living wage be better.

It would reduce poverty in the riches countries by 4.3%.

The bad news is that a living wage will have little or no effect.

Why? Because 47% of all to day’s jobs will be automated in the next twenty years. Most will be the living wage jobs, so inequality will widen and the countries that are not up to date with technologies will become poorer.

What happens will arrive on you DOORSTEP.

THERE IS ONLY ONE OPTION/SOLUTION.

POVERTY IN ALL ITS PRESENT DAY FORM WILL NOT DISAPPEAR ALL ON ITS OWN. FOR THIS TO HAPPEN IT MUST HAVE AN EXTERNAL SOURCE OF RESOURCES TO TACKEL IT.

THIS SOURCE IS GREED ITSELF. ( see previous posts)

You want to be more than naive to BELIEVE that the whole world is going to get richer. That inequality is going to narrow. That climate change is not going to have any effect. That there is going to be peace. That the worlds renewable resources are not going to run out. That SOVEREIGN WEALTH FUNDS WHICH ARE THE SILENT FACE OF GREED ARE GOING TO SHARE THEIR PROFITS.

THE IMPROBABLITIES ARE ENDLESS.

Child exploration Slums Health Economic migration, silent majority, world problems

We all know that there are many world problems that are not driven by poverty.

However we would be safe to say without contradiction that the majority are connected to its very existence.

Current world conflict.
Drugs
Modern day Slavery
Pollution
Sex trade
Child exploitation
Slums
Health
Economic migration
Black market
People trafficking
Education
Corruption.

We the silent majority would do well to remember what happens in history when the majority remained silent. Communist Russia were responsible for the murder of 20 million. The Chinese communism managed a staggering 70 million. The Japanese 12 million. The Rwandans – God knows. There is no getting away from that the 20th century has had to be the most violent in human history

Lastly anyone who doubts that this issue of poverty is not serious is contributing to the passiveness that allowing the problem to expand.

We are silent – and then silenced.

Invitation to Sir Bono.

Bono

It would seem from the silent reactions to my recent postings that you are getting bored.

So a change of tack is in order.

Instead of reading my ranting that we will all be asked at the gates of heaven ( if a heaven exists) why did we stand by idle when it was within your power to eradicate poverty. I invite you to listen to my long-lost friend Bono pontificate on the TED WHY IT IS POSSIBLE TO BANISH IT FROM THE GLOBE BY 2015.(www.ten.com)

Through his wealth and fame not his poverty he has ASPIRED to influence the powerfully to give not to receive giving him a purpose to his LIFE. I know what he says comes from his heart because way back he and his wife Ali after the Chernobyl disaster brought CHILDREN to Ireland for a holiday for free.

Like me he believes that we can no longer pretend that the creation of wealth for a few will inevitably benefit the many.

The cost of Poverty is not only unethical, it’s also economically inefficient, politically corrosive, socially divisive and environmentally destructive.

Unlike me even if we are moving in the right direction, he has no concert solution. There is no doubt as he points out we are moving in the right direction. POVERTY has fallen faster in the last 50 years than the last 500.

Bono and I quote from his Ted talk says ” we can trace it source back to three thousand years ago.”

We can look back to 13.2 billion years through the Hubble Telescope but we are unable to look into the future by one mille second. Why do I point this out. Because greed is at the very beginning and will be at the very end. The only way to make a difference to the present is to capture greed.

In his talk he refers to the power of facts, stating that he is now one of the facttiveness and believes that the Facebook, the Twitter, the Social Media, will change the world through transparency. I agreed. But we all must speak with one Voice to have any effect.

So my long-lost friend the co-founder of Data, Red, Edon, join me. Read my blog (bobdillon33blog.wordpress.com) or drop by for a glass of wine Sir.

Extreme poverty, world poverty

Humanity’s only home planet is under attack with the shadows of forgotten Ancestors disappearing into Cyber Space.

Never forget the World is yours. ( Terms and conditions apply)

Nothing speaks more vividly than the relents march of world poverty.

We modern humans have being of Earth less of Earth 0’0001% of Earth history.

It’s an unnerving thought that we may be the living Universe’s supreme achievement and its worst night-mare simultaneously.

It’s time to get off the substitutes bench.

World Poverty is now used as a product to fund an ever-increasing industry that is serving its very existence.

There is no solution without funds, and the greatest source of funds is Greed, Profit for Profit sake.

The World Bank has tried and failed to date.
The IMF has tried and failed?
Fair Trade has tried and failed.
Grandiose United Nation Charters have tried and failed.

The mantra of our world leaders is that ” The Economy must continue to grow” while 21 Children die from preventable causes each minute. Fifteen million a year Ref: library.thinkquest.org

There are no valid reasons that we should tolerate or accept one death so that our Economies can grow.

There are no poor with Investment Portfolios, but there are however many Portfolios with poor. There is only one solution Greed must be made work to eradicate poverty – see previous postings, and Silent Witness to world poverty on Flipboard.

5 Poverty photographs

I do not want this blog to end up as a insults to human intellect by moaning non stop.

After sailing across the Atlantic several times and completing a 85,000 overland two-year exploration of Africa with my wife and seven-year old daughter I can tell you that moaning gets you no where in this world.

We will all be lucky if before we depart to understand that giving not receiving is the secret to happiness. That beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It must please the senses and the mind. That compassion without action comes cheap. That Apollo 8 photo of the  EARTH RISING puts every think in perspective.

We are all on earth a micro speck in the vastness of the Universe. It belongs to us all. However sometimes people carry it more on the inside than on the outside.

Its beauty is beyond words, and its hard to accept as its current caretakers we are allowing it to be exploited for short-term gains. We can’t let it happen.

Those that are trying Donors Choose Org, Heifer International, Save the Childers, World Vision not forgetting a few individuals such as Mark Zuckerberg, Bill Gates.

Just think what could be achieved if every Stock Exchange applied a commission on all transactions. What a balanced world we would have. A world we could all be proud of RISING TO DAY AND TO MORROW.

Join me in the struggle. With the combined power of our Mobil phones we can make a stance.

Twinkle, twinkle, little star how I wonder what you are.

Try to imagine a life without timekeeping.

You probably can’t.

You know the month, the year, the day of the week.

There is a clock on your wall, or on the dashboard of your car. You have a schedule, a calendar, a time for dinner, or a movie.

Yet all around you timekeeping is ignored. Birds are not late, a dog does not check it watch. Deer not fret over passing birthday.
Man alone measures time.
Man alone chimes the hour.
And because of this man alone suffers a paralyzing fear that no other creature endures. A fear of running out of time.

75% of earths animals species could be extinct within 300 years.

200,000 humans are born each day = 9.2 billion on earth the year 2050.

One in three Americans doesn’t believe in evolution.

38, 000 man-made objects orbiting the earth.

The value of the earths atmosphere based on the trading price of CO2 @ €1.3 per cubic meter = £. 4.3 quadrillion.

If the above means nothing to you don’t worry there are millions like you.

On the other hand there is a thing called the butterfly effect, your one small voice can cause a minor change in circumstances can cause a large change in outcome.

1/8 of the present world present population suffer from chronic Hunger (www.thp.org) All Hungary people are Poor. All poor people are hungry the biggest killer on our planet. More than HIV/AIDS, Malaria.

So what? Most of us are not paying the slightest attention, could not be bothered.

Are we all in a fatalistic state of despair? Is this Civilization already dead?

Are we all going to stand idly by while every thing on our planet becomes tradeable? Turned into EARTH INCORPORATED INC BY SOVEREIGNTY FUNDS the Trojan horse of the 20th Century.

So if you are reading this or following my dribble on previous postings I am looking for you input but most of all I am looking for a Web Designer to create a Web site to gather our Voices to make a flutter.

Happy New year.
