DEMOCRACY IS GOING THROUGH TOUGH TIMES.

Many people are and have become disillusioned with the present day political system-when over the last few year they have seen their Governments bail out Bankers with their hard-earned money, only to see financiers continue to pay themselves huge bonuses.

But this is only one reason not the main reason why Democracy is in the shit.

The main reason is that Democracy is for sale, with money talking louder than ever, with the rich becoming more powerful and the poor becoming poorer.

Why so?

Because:  Thousand of Lobbyist hiding behind free speech for large fees are insisting that political expenditure is needed when it only complicate simple things and allows certain sweet- talking politicians to mislead the people like silver-tongued Mr Blair did over the Iraq war.

Because:  It is also suffering from serious structural problems as it is under attack, from inherited entitlements and future investment.

Because:  Combined with globalization and the digital revolution has made many institutions look out of date.

Because:  We all know that it is culturally rooted, a powerful but imperfect mechanism that endeavors to harness human creativity while on the other hand put the brakes on human perversity.

Because:  It is surrendering even more powers over trade and global markets to International Monetary Funds, the European Union, Independent Central Banks.

Because:  It is constantly oiled and adjusted by elections that are concerned with the party faithful which in fact disenfranchises large number of voters which encourages extremism.

Because:  It puts  too much emphasis on elections and too little on the other essentials features of democracy, like individual rights, freedom of speech which should be guaranteed and avoiding Majoritarianism.

Because:  The internet is making it easier to organize and agitate. Where elections take place only ever few years people are living from day-to-day indulging the pleasures of the moment.

Because:  Hyperdemocrarcy is voting endlessly on-line.

Because Internationally:

America is paralyzed by institionalises gridlock and fear that democracy is producing rogue regimes, empowering Jihadists.

China is a world power.

The Arab spring is creating war not peace. Egypt, Middle East, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq,

Europe:

Italy, Greece replaced democratically leaders with technocrats. The EU with vast youth unemployment, and exploitation of a decent living wage has become a breeding ground for National Front, the Golden Dawn both political parties with Nazi tendencies.

There is no end to the Because’s.

So instead it is reducing liberty, and handing even more powers to special interests to appease the Economy by privatizing its responsibilities democracy is far more than holding elections. It has to be for all of the people all of the time both the born and unborn, not profit for profit sake.

We know that we all cannot live the same lives, but we can all be given a helping hand and the same opportunities that are under our control.

But what is actually happening?

More and more countries are setting up Sovereign Wealth Funds.

E-Democracy is becoming more and more powerful signaling the possible misuse of Big data in the future.

Our world is in turmoil, with inequality, lack of resources, pollution, economic migration, and not forgetting conflicts.

What is Democracy?

Here are a few Quotations.  Make up your own mind.

“Democracy is a charming form of government, full of variety and disorder, and dispensing a sort of equality to equals and unequal’s alike.”

Plato (428? BC–347 BC), Greek philosopher.
The Republic (370? BC).

“Democracy is the wholesome and pure air without which a socialist public organisation cannot live a full-blooded life.”

Mikhail Gorbachev (1931– ), Russian statesman.

“Democracy means government by discussion but it is only effective if you can stop people talking.”

Clement Attlee (1883–1967), British politician.
Speech at Oxford (June 14, 1957).

“Democracy is the accursed power which stands on Privilege”
Hilaire Belloc (1870–1953), French-born British writer.

” Democracy means government by the uneducated, while aristocracy means government by the badly educated.”

G. K. Chesterton (1874–1936), English writer and poet.
The New York Times (February 1, 1931).

“Democracy substitutes election by the incompetent many for appointment by the corrupt few.”

George Bernard Shaw (1856–1950), Irish playwright.

“A democracy—that is a government of all the people, by all the people, for all the people; of course, a government of the principles of eternal justice, the unchanging law of God; for shortness’ sake I will call it the idea of Freedom.”

Theodore Parker (1810–1860), U.S. Unitarian clergyman.

What ever it is many have die for it and will continue doing so. May they rest in peace.

Robert de Mayo Dillon. ( 1947-   ) Irish Man.

earth from space wallpaper hd 1024x576 Earth from space wallpaper hd

In the middle of the 20th century, we saw our planet from space for the first time.

From space, we see a small and fragile ball.

Over the course of this century, the relationship between the human world and the planet that sustains it has undergone a profound change.

The traditional forms of national sovereignty raise particular problems in managing the ‘global commons’ and their shared ecosystems – the oceans, outer space, and Antarctica. Many such changes are accompanied by life-threatening hazards.

Our Common Future, does not have to be a prediction of ever-increasing environmental decay, poverty, and hardship in an ever more polluted world among ever decreasing resources but the time has come to take the decisions needed to secure the resources to sustain this and coming generations.

This new reality, from which there is no escape, must be recognized – and managed.

There are more hungry people in the world than ever before, and their numbers are increasing. So are the numbers who cannot read or write, the numbers without safe water or safe and sound homes, and the numbers short of wood fuel with which to cook and warm themselves. It is impossible to separate economic development issues from environment issues; many forms of development erode the environmental resources upon which they must be based, and environmental degradation can undermine economic development.

Poverty is a major cause and effect of global environmental problems.

The gap between rich and poor nations is widening – not shrinking – and there is little prospect, given present trends and institutional arrangements, that this process will be reversed.

Humanity’s inability to fit its activities.

There is a growing scientific consensus that species are disappearing at rates never before witnessed on the planet, although there is also controversy over those rates and the risks they entail. Yet there is still time to halt this process

The changes in human attitudes that we call for depend on a vast campaign of education, debate, and public participation. A new international programme for cooperation among largely non-governmental organizations, scientific bodies, and industry groups should therefore be established for this purpose.

By the turn of the century, almost half of humanity will live in cities; the world of the 21st century will be a largely urban world. A safe and sustainable energy pathway is crucial to sustainable development; we have not yet found it

The world manufactures seven times more goods today than it did as recently as 1950. There is only one solution. CAP GREED AT SOURCE.( See previous blogs)

Stupidity has been around since the dinosaurs.

As Albert Einstein said  “Surely there is no-show that can possibly equate to the amount of mental diarrhea that is presented in every single microsecond.”

YOU MIGHT WELL ASK   “Why does applied science, which saves work and makes life easier, bring us so little happiness? The simple answer runs: Because we have not yet learned to make sensible use of it.”

Here is an Idea that might make a difference.

These days we carry cool devices that let us carry the world in our pockets, so why not use them to spread wealth, health, food aid and the like.

Its time we set a price on nature.

The people of the world can be asked whether and how much they prize the two values of nature – use value and non-use value.

This can be done WITH AN UNITED NATIONS APP that rewards the user by issuing a United Nations Food voucher to the deprived.

We would soon know what is valued and what is not.

Nature provides ecosystem services, and we trash it at our peril.

Our activities have put and are putting priceless resources – fresh water, clean air, oceans, and our climate at risk.

Man tries to make for himself in the fashion that suits him best a simplified and intelligible picture of the world; he then tries to some extent to substitute this cosmos of his for the world of experience, and thus to overcome it.

This is what the painter, the poet, the speculative philosopher, and the natural scientists do, each in his own fashion. Each makes this cosmos and its construction the pivot of his emotional life, in order to find in this way peace and security which he can not find in the narrow whirlpool of personal experience.  Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are even incapable of forming such opinions.

We shall require a substantially new manner of thinking if mankind is to survive.

A critical landmark in the sage of global climate change is occurring right in front of our eyes. If you are a non believer try Googling the Carteret Islanders of Papua New Guinea. They have become the world’s first entire community to be displaced by climate change.

Imagination is more important than knowledge. Knowledge is limited. Imagination encircles the world so why not use it.

Not one statesman in a position of responsibility has dared to pursue the only course that holds out any promise of peace, the course of sharing wealth since for a statesman to follow such a course would be tantamount to political suicide. This is why we must cap greed. ( See previous blogs)

Only a life lived for others is a life worth while .

A human being is part of the whole, called by us ‘Universe,’ a part limited
in time and space.

Have you not heard?

“Temperatures are going up. Springs are arriving earlier. Ice sheets are melting. Sea level is rising. The patterns of rainfall and drought are changing. Heat waves are getting worse, as is extreme precipitation. The oceans are acidifying.”

But people generally do not understand that the problem is urgent — that the fate of future generations (not necessarily that far in the future) is being determined by emission levels now.

Moreover, the average citizen tends to think there is more scientific debate about the basics than there really is.

“Nobody on this planet is going to be untouched by the impacts of climate change,”

“Throughout the 21st century, climate-change impacts are projected to slow down economic growth, make poverty reduction more difficult, further erode food security, and prolong existing and create new poverty traps, the latter particularly in urban areas and emerging hot spots of hunger,”

The world survives by way of an ecosystem and that system is the core of all living things. For many years now scientists have warned that our cavalier attitude toward preservation of the ecosystem will cause it to begin breaking down, however, their warnings often fell on deaf ears.

WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT NOW.

IT IS MY BELIEF THAT SINCE MAN STARTED TO OWN THINGS HIS GREED STARTED TO DESTROY THE VERY THINGS HE OWNED IN THE FIRST PLACE AT THE EXPENSE OF EARTHS NATURAL RESOURCES FOR SHORT TERM PROFIT.

EVERYTHING BECAME A COMMODITY TO BE SOLD. THE LESS OF IT THE MORE EXPENSIVE.

IT HAS TAKEN MILLENARY TO SEE THE REVERSE HAPPENING.

IF WE VALUE THE ESSENCE OF LIFE, WATER, CLEAN AIR, ENERGY AND FOOD THERE IS NO APP TO DOWNLOAD. WE MUST MAKE GREED PAY FOR IT.  ( See previous blogs )

ARE WE ALL INCAPABLE OF ACTING AS ONE ?

The Asteroid is on it final countdown before hitting earth causing a terminator-style annihilation.

Most of us have seen a Science fiction Movie with this scenario.

Did you ever try to list the reasons why it is impossible for man to act as one. A very interesting exercise of imagination and fact.

Here is my first attempt at a few reasons

Our DNA demands Survival.  Greed.

We are caught in a vicious cycle of Fear, Rage, and Appetites that cry for instant gratification.

We are the agents of the very changes that are throttling us.

We are inventing a world of which we are altogether ill fit to live on.

Complex languages.  World Organisations that compete against each other.

Intelligence. In ourselves, we may finally have met our match.

There is an Evolutionary force to which we cannot adapt.  The web.

Perhaps we will simply morph into Cyber sapiens,* a new human, infinitely more intelligent than you or I are, perhaps more socially adept, or at least able to juggle large tribes of friends, acquaintances, and business associates with the skill of a circus performer. A creature more capable of keeping up with the change it generates. To handle the challenges of time shortages and long distances, Cyber sapiens may even be able to bilocate or split off multiple, digital versions of themselves, each of whom can blithely live separate lives and then periodically rejoin their various digital selves so that they become a supersize version of a single person.

A lack of biological constraint may become the defining trait of the next human. We will almost certainly become augmented versions of our current selves.

Our newfound capabilities might become more than we can handle. Will we evolve into some version of comic-book heroes and villains, clashing mythically and with terrible consequences? Powers like these give the term cutting edge a new and lethal meaning. And what of those who don’t have access to all of the fresh, amplifying technologies?

Should we not being guarding  against a world of super-haves and super-have-nots? It is these sides of the equation I wonder about most.

THEY ARE PLUNDERING THE PLANET

High consumption levels and over exploitation for the sake of profit is continuing to destroy our beautiful planet.

I can hear you saying so what is new.

Nothing I suppose.

But anyone with any intelligence is and should be by now realizing  that with Climate Change we have constructed a materialistic civilization  that is addicted to ravishing its life support system.

The question is. Why is it that we seem unable to agree a plan?

The simple answer is the fear of profit impacts.

What is driving this fear? Unadulterated Greed.

This greed in recent years has taken a new form call Sovereign Wealth Funds.

These are State backed investment bodies that are roaming the globe in search of Profit.

Investment funds that are threatening the hierarchy of legal authority and if not capped will convert all our efforts to combat the ills of the world into commodities to be sold. Air, Water, Energy, CO2 Credits, you name it.

A Sovereign Fund by its definition behaves no different from the state it is appendix.

With such concentrations of economic power they subvert the power of civil rights and human rights.

There is no distinction between state and private interests. No one knows who takes decisions within SWF’s or what criteria they have other than to make profit.

If you think that in the Arab world ( where billions from oil revenue are in these Funds ) there are no contracts on an institution to institution, state to state, or enterprise to enterprise all are a person to person, not to mention Russia or China you would have reason to fear the Privatisation of the Globe by these Funds.

They are not going away but are becoming an increasingly powerful actor in the International Political System and world economy.

In developing Countries they are replacing the World Bank and the IMF ( which might not be a bad thing as both are somewhat dysfunctional in a World economy that is run by computer software programs)

They are now major players in the market economic power struggle using economic globalization ( which does not exclude private market participants from its system) to freely move capital around the world.

You can imagine what is going ( if it is not already happening ) to happen to countries that don’t have capital wealth.

These funds are taking on the characteristics of large aggregation of private economic power for profit for profit sake.

I am sure being Sovereign that they are not subject to tax on their profits. strong>

For as long as I can remember I have being hearing FOUR words——

POVERTY
CONSERVATION
EXTINCTION
CORRUPTION

THEY HAVE NOT GONE AWAY, BUT ALL HAVE TAKEN ON EXTRA BAGGAGE AND BECOME ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER.

It is said that poverty is improving with a massive reduction mainly due to economic growth in China and India. $5 to $7 a day. It now being replaced in the middle classes by inequality.

We are told by Climate Change experts that Extinction is getting closer and closer.

Corruption in all its disguises is here to stay.

Conservation: plagued by the above is fighting a losing battle.

But the good news is that there are two new words on the block.

Data.

Privatisation.

The amount of data stored is doubling every eighteen months.

Privatisation. Has little interest in Poverty or Conservation, but has a self-interest in Corruption and Extinction.

So where do we stand?

The title to this blog states the position.

If we who are now connected by all don’t Pay for what we value we have a world not worthy of our technology advances.

We must make a Tree, a Tiger, Air, Water to valuable to be exploited for Profit.

By placing a Tax or World Aid Commission on all Stock Exchange transactions world-wide we can fund the changes needed to pass on a Globe of Beauty.

HOW FRAGILE AND IMPERMANENT OUR ADVANCE CIVILIZATION REALLY IS.

Thirty years from now the pressure on the planet’s resources will start to warning us all once again as to how fragile and impermanent our advanced civilization really is.

Why?

Because the ecological carrying capacity will be vastly DIMINISHED. The Have and the Have not’s will be on the verge of an revolution.

You don’t believe me ?  Well open your eyes and you will see that the current high levels of economic stratification are linked to the overconsumption of Resources.

You might think or say that Technological change can raise the efficiency of resources use. But it also raises both per capita resource consumption, and the scale of resource extraction. Just look at Agriculture and Industry over the past two centuries. Productivity increases in both has come from “Increased (rather the decreased) resource throughput,” despite dramatic efficiency gains, over the same period.

The Have’s who are based largely in Industrialised countries are controlled by an Elite that is paying less and less to the great unwashed who produce the wealth. ( (Called the minimum wage or living wage both of which are just above subsistence levels.)

The Haves are consuming too much in A disposable Societies, and will cause a famine among the have nots that will eventually cause the collapse of the world society. An Inequality – induced Famine that causes a loss of workers, rather than a collapse of Nature.

Of course we are told that this is not possible by the Elite, wealthy Monopolies who will be buffered from the most ‘ detrimental effects of the Environmental collapse, until to late. For them it is business as usual : just like the Roman Empire, Han, Mayan, Mauryan, Gupta Empires, not to mention the Mesopotamian Empires.

What is to be done?

We must reduce Economic inequality, so as to ensure fairer distribution of resources. To recognise that ” Business as usual” cannot be sustained. A convergence of food, water and energy crises will create the ” Perfect Storm”

Of course there are lots and lots of other problems like the growing global thirst for energy threatens water supplies. The change in population, Climate change, to mention just a few.  Any one never mind one combining with another will be a total disaster.

But the Haves have a vested interest in sustaining the current model – however doomed, for long as possible, regardless of the eventual negative outcome.

There is only one solution and that is to tap into Greed.

( see my post: A Tax at a very low rate- for example, a 0.007 percent tax/commission on all world stock transactions and stock options.)

WORLD BIGGEST PROBLEMS

01 Sunday Dec 2013

Posted by bobdillon33@gmail.com in Uncategorized

Tags

Climate change, Earth, Environment, Extinction, FOSSIL FUELS, Global warming, Pollution, World

IF YOU WERE ASKED TO LIST THE WORLDS BIGGEST PROBLEMS LEAVING OUT ALL THE CURRENT CONFLICTS I AM SURE ONE OF THE BELOW WOULD FEATURE.

CLIMATE CHANGE

SPECIES EXTINCTION

GLOBAL WATER

OIL

ECONOMIC COLLAPSE

IT IS OBVIOUS TO ANYONE THAT HAS A OUNCE OF INTELLIGENCE THAT WE HUMANS IF NOT WIPED OUT BY AN ASTRO OR SOMEHOW MANAGE TO BLOW OURSELVES INTO KINGDOM COME HAVE TO COME TOGETHER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR ALL OF US NOW AND IN THE FUTURE.

LET’S TAKE CLIMATE CHANGE.

NO MATTER WHAT YOUR VIEWS ARE ON CLIMATE CHANGE THE BASIC EVIDENCE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GLOBAL WARMING IS UNDENIABLE. DRIVEN BY HUMAN CAUSES IT IS FUNDAMENTALLY CONNECTED WITH THE OTHER PROBLEMS REFERED TO ABOVE. IT IS THE MOST URGENT THREAT TO THE MODERN WORLD AND WILL BE CATACLYSMIC WITHOUT ACTION.

SPECIES EXTINCTION

THIS VERY MINUTE ONE IN EIGHT SPECIES OF BIRDS, ONE IN THREE OF AMPHIBIANS AND ONE IN FOUR OF MAMMALS ARE ON THE VERG OF EXTINCTION.

WE ALL RELY ON ECOSYSTEMS TO LIVE.

PLANKTON – DUE TO CLIMATE CHANGE IS DISAPPEARING. BEES ARE BEING DESTROYED BY POISONOUS PESTICIDES. TOP SOIL IS BEING WASHED AWAY. THE LOSS OF ALL THREE IS HAPPENING SO RAPIDLY THAT IT IS VITAL TO US ALL IF LIFE  IS TO CONTINUE THAT WE DO SOMETHING TO REVERSE THEIR LOSS.

TURNING TO WATER

A QUANTIFIABLE GIFT BROUGHT TO US FROM OUTER SPACE THAT GOVERNS OUR VERY EXISTENCE ON THE PLANET EARTH. WE TAKE IT FOR GRANTED.

YOU MIGHT THINK THAT MOST OF THE WATER IS ON THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH. YOU BE WRONG.

IT’S A NON RENEWABLE FROM SUBTERRANEAN WATER REVERSERS WHICH IS BEING CONSUMED AT A UNSUSTAINABLE RATE. YOU ONLY HAVE TO LOOK AT THE WORLD TO KNOW THAT IT IS NOT DISTRIBUTED EVENLY ( nor is it available at all times throughout the year)

THERE ARE NUMEROUS REASONS WHY THERE IS LESS AND LESS WATER.

IT’S POLLUTION IS AT EPIC PROPORTIONS. IF WATER CONSUMPTION AND POLLUTION TRENDS CONTINUE AT THE CURRENT RATE FOOD/ AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION WILL BE SERIOUSLY AFFECTED CAUSING MORE AND MORE CONFLICTS WORLD WIDE.

OIL

THE WORLD’S ENERGY CONSUMPTION IS INCREASING BY 2% PER YEAR, WITH OIL PROVIDING ABOUT 40% OF THAT NEED. 80% OF ALL WORLD’S ENERGY IS GENERATED BY THREE FOSSIL FUELS, COAL,OIL,NATURAL GAS WE BECOMING ALMOST COMPLETELY DEPENDANT UPON THEM, ALL NON RENEWABLE.

WE MUST DEVELOP WAYS OF GIVING TO PEOPLE OPPORTUNITY TO GENERATE ELECTRICITY IN THEIR HOMES.

NUCLEAR POWER IS BEYOND MOST NATIONS. EVEN WHERE IT IS POSSIBLE THERE IS SUBSTANTIAL PUBLIC OPPOSITION TO SITE LOCATION FOR RADIO-ACTIVE WASTE. NOT TO MENTION URANIUM ANOTHER NON-RENEWABLE MINERAL REQUIREMENT TO PRODUCE NUCLEAR POWER.

THEN WE HAVE WIND POWER ALSO BEYOND MOST COUNTRIES AND THE WINDS DON’T BLOW ALL OF THE TIME.

BIO FUELS A MASSIVE USE OF LAND RESULTING IN DESTROYING ECOSYSTEMS .

THERE ARE MANY OTHER PROMISING TECHNOLIGES IN THE PIPE LINE WHICH OF COURSE WILL BE SURPRESSED BY THE WORLD OIL ORGANISATIONS FOR THE OBVIOUS REASONS.

SO IF WE ARE HONEST WITH OURSELVES MOST OF US COULD NOT GIVE A SHIT ADOPTING ” I AM ALL RIGHT JACK” ATTUTIDUE WHEN IT COMES TO TRYING TO EFFECT CHANGE.

WHY? BECAUSE MOST OF US THINK IT IS A TOTAL WASTE OF TIME . NO ONE LISTENS SO WHY TRY. EVEN IF THEY DO YOU WILL NEVER BE HEARD BY ANY ONE WHO IS INTERESTED IN TAKING THE CAUSE UP.

THE POWER OF THE MOBIL PHONE CAN CHANGE THIS BY BRINING A COLLECTIVE WORLD VOICE TOGETHER THAT WILL HAVE TO BE LISTENED TO.

WITH THE APPLICATION OF 0.00001% ( see previous post) WE COULD TURN ALL THE WORLDS POOP 200 MILLION TONS OF IT PER YEAR OF WHICH 90% IS DISCHARGED DIRECTLY INTO OUR LAKES,RIVERS,OCEANS ——– INTO FUEL.
