No one really knows when man left the land and ventured out on the water.

But there’s one thing for sure when they did they changed the course of history, and the reason for doing so have not really changed except the world is not flat and land they sailing over remains to this days unexplored.

Exploration is however a voyage – voyage one – now travelling in another universe could be Pharaoh Khufu’s Solar Barge., the most distant at 25 billions km human- made object from earth.

When asked this question the ships that come to my mind are-

ENDEAVOUR- BEAGLE- MAYFLOWER -TITANIC – U-21 – LUSITANIA-KON -TIKI – YAMATO – BISMARCK – BOUNTY – CUTTY SARAK – VICTORY – VICTORIA – MARY ROSE – USS ENTERPRISE – TORREY CANYON – RAINBOW WARRIOR – SS NORMANDIE. SANTA MARIA.

Why these ships:

Endeavour: Under Captain James Cook probably sailed more nautical miles than any other ship, mapping half the world.

No one knew how far the sun was from earth till Endeavour arrived in Tahiti [ 150 million odd km]

SANTA MARIA

Christopher Columbus.

Beagle :

Charles Darwin.

Mayflower:

The arrival of puritans into America.

Titanic:

Probably sucked the iceberg towards her due to her size.

U-21:

First U boat to sink a ship in World War One.

LUSITANIA:

Its sinking brought American into World War One.

KON- TIKI

Human migration

YAMATO

Biggest Japanese war ship of the world war 11.

BISMARCK

Despite her power she was defeated by a biplane from an early age in world war11.

BOUNTY

The ship’s captain William Bligh navigated over four thousand nautical miles in an open boat after mutiny on board.

CUTTY SARAK

Fastest sailing ship of its time.

VICTORY

Nelson. Still a commission war ship.

VICTORIA

The first circumnavigation of the globe.

MARY ROSE

Henry V111 war ship sank and salvaged in the Solent

USS ENTERPRISE

First nuclear – powered super-carrier.

TORREY CANYON

Made history. The biggest ship ever to be wrecked full of oil

RAINBOW WARRIOR

Travel the world protesting against damaging environmental activities.

SS NORMANDIE.

Transatlantic liner. We now have floating apartments blocks or better describes as floating entertainment resorts with no rudder such as ALLURE OF THE SEA. 18 decks high carrying 5.5 thousand passengers and 2 .5 thousand crew, with tree line park not to mention shops, pools, theatres, gyms, with Azipods instead of a rudder.

These type of ships are floating hotels destroying what’s left of nature for profit. 84 of them are due to visit the Bay of Plenty NZ 2024/2025 with a deeper and more meaningful manuhiri their over 60th passenger will definitely fill the hot pools of Rotorua.

All human comments appreciated. All like clicks chuck in the bin.
